- ShadoCat2Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0While the first chapter had a log of good points, it dwelled a bit too long on the process of "dungeonizing" the main character. However, after that in that chapter, it really picked up for me.
I like the characters (most of them) and their interaction.
I also like building type stories in general. Though building stories often suffer from a lack of character interaction. Luckily, in this story, I get the character interaction with the building.
I rate based on how much I enjoy a story. 5 stars since I am looking forward to the next chapter.
I had another thought:
I was never in the military but I grew up around 3 Marine bases. This author know how to write a Marine.
And another that led to doing an advanced review:
Style: Font is neutral to me. Different but not annoying. I have never been confused as to who is talking or whose viewpoint I'm seeing.
Story: I mentioned above why I like the story.
Grammer: The author sometimes writes things differently than I would write them but that is the author's personal voice. Also, characters sometimes don't have perfect grammar in speach but that's the way the character talks. What is good is that it isn't over the top to the point of being annoying.
Characters: His characters are caracters not characatures. I feel like I could meet any of them out in the real world. - WhyndRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really like what I see so far!
The characters are relatable, the interactions make sense and feel appropriate, really looking forward to how they develope..will update this review as the story progresses to reflect my views on the character development.
Gritty post-apolyptic settings may not be everyone's cup of tea, but the execution of it so far is top notch...and the description of events as they play out left me feeling like I'd been there to witness it myself. Action sequences feel good, quick, not overly dramatic, appropriate to the circumstances... Fair warning, the story gets a little risque at times, but not disgustingly so...it's more like..heated without being vulgar...I'm not so sure I'd want my kids to read it just yet, but then again I've seen worse...
The writing and grammar are on point, easily among the best on this site and better than some of the books I've read from major publishers.
The story flows well and is interesting... World building has just begun and with the story being centered around actual locations mixed with fantasy elements; the world feels relatable, familiar, as well as fun and exotic all at once!
definitely among the best I've read so far and I'm looking forward to where things go from here! - fakerdakerhahahaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Strap in, everyone. We have a real doozy on our hands here
Style and Story:
This novel is a ride. A joy ride, to be precise, given how the very first chapter manages to lure you in with a false sense of security, only to immediately throw a left hook out of nowhere with the… uhm… “self-pleasing” scene. Keep in mind that this is done so well, both in terms of writing and narrative, that you could not help but keep your eyes glued to the descend of our protagonist as everything falls apart around her
This, funnily enough, sets the tone for the entire novel: Serious and moody one moment, hooks you in with something extremely eldritch the next, then ends it all with a hearty slap on the head that may or may not leave you with a concussion for days on end (once you read further into the story, you will see what I mean)
Storywise, the setting is quite clever in a lot of ways. I don’t want to spoil anything for new readers, and some parts might be considered “sensitive” with the real-life happenings around our world. So, here’s everything you need to know: Ciara, an old, introverted professor gets possessed by some eldritch being that turns her into a dungeon core while walking around a beach (on Earth), right before WW3 happens with a BOOM. She goes on to live her best life as a dungeon (on Earth) that noms tasty, tasty morsels (cough) while doing her best to retain her humanity because, well, duh. There is also this Joe dude, who I will get into more details later
Grammar:
The grammar is clear and concise. There are some minor errors, though nothing major that would affect the reading experience as a whole
Character:
There are 2 main characters in this novel, aka Ciara and Joe. They both play major roles in the story, with Ciara being the usual dungeon core while Joe is your everyday war hero. As their paths intersect, a unique aspect of this novel is revealed as both sides work together to save their crumbling planet (something that caught me off guard, since I was so c - poisonousdwarf_nzRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I am liking where this is going.
The character progression is believe and is likely to be what I would think would happen.
I like that there is a negative to using a large percentage of her mana... and that there is 2 sides to her.
Human vs dungeon personality... and where these differ. - KasidyaRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Reviewed at Chapter 28: Fortifications
A tale of a Dungeon and two dragons. It takes place during and following WW3, showing how the professor is changed into a dungeon, and what follows.
The story is told mostly from the first person perspective of the dungeon, with additional characters perspectives showing us what the world looks like, and how people are reacting .
The storyline is good, giving a purpose for the dungeon, a little about the two dragons, who interact with the both the dungeon and the people. Of course there is conflict between those who want some form of co-operation and those who who throw off the fetters of society to live a life of unbridled selfishness.
I don't feel that the characters are fully fleshed out yet, but we are learniing more about them as the story progresses.
The grammar and spelling are good. I haven't been jarred out of the tale by mistakes, which to me means that it is pretty well written. - KiroseRoyal Road★ 1.0EDIT: After a DM from the author I want to stress that I do not think they are a bad author or that they should stop writing. This review is not an attempt to have them change something. This is, quite simply, my review of what I have read. I have not changed any aspect of this review.
Started out strong with interesting characters and plot/threat, but has thus far grown less enjoyable with time.
The main plot and the dungeon elements have largely petered out in favor of characters sleeping together, then talking about sleeping together, then talking to others about their relationship, then repeat at the top of the next chapter. When it seems like plot or elements will return it often devolves into repeated conversations/themes, or a character explaining a power/skill for the nth time. Some of this is a taste thing rather than quality of writing, as I simply prefer more of the dungeon and plot elements, but it has a role in my review.
More critical are the characters. While they needed to be fleshed out in earlier chapters, which is natural and perfectly fine, they have since gone flat. Antagonists are (for the most part) so idiotic it's surprising they are capable of breathing, and most characters act like they're 13 despite being in their 20's or 30's. At times the story feels like poor fanfiction of itself. (An 'adult' relationship that went from nonexistent to 'we're engaged' overnight, when one of them lost their spouse a couple weeks prior... I don't care what mind melding magic is involved, that's ridiculous and plummeted my review a full star on its own due to the savagery of the character assassination).
30 chapters ago this would have been a 4/5 story. I was excited and happy to be reading it. Now I'm only reading because I enjoy the dungeon POV when it's not just listening in on the teen drama.
