Description

Dorothy has lived far longer than she expected. Especially when her husband passed to leave her alone in their cabin amidst a goblin-infested forest. But she might regret not listening to her son and moving somewhere safer when she hears goblins screeching in the middle of the night.

Saving a scrawny goblin, Gob, is only the start of her problems when her intervention attracts the attention of Great Chief Taruk, a powerful goblin leader who has begun a war against the 'manlings' to lay ancestral claim to the forest where Dorothy lives.

Mixed up in a war between humans and goblins, she'll have to decide whether to pack up and leave her home, siding with her own kind, or whether to stay and try to reason with the Great Chief.

The Novella is now complete, but I'm still writing more stories set in theHoarfrost Heroesuniverse.

I absolutely adore this story. Every character was full of, well, character! Both Dora and Gob stayed true. It was fascinating and poignant to realize the state of Dora’s mind at the end. It feels like you’re reading the heart and actions of an actual old grandmother and an actual brave goblin—like this was written by two humans and a fantastic little creature I’m so happy I went looking for goblin stories. This was such an adventurous and tender tale.

Fun reading. Only three chapters in, but I can see where it's going. Dorothy is an enjoyable and relatable character to read about, and the goblins are quite amusing. The story is both light-hearted and serious without being too much of either. Proofreading was a little shaky but is improving.
