Diary of a Mining Dragon

Description
Vildra is a simple dragon. All she wants to do is to dig out a nice little den where she can sleep through the winters. A home fit for someone like herself!
So what if the mountain she chose just so happens to hold riches unseen before. She'll ignore it as she always does, like with that city next door, or those "suitors" who graciously feed her, or that voice that whispers to her in her sleep.
The only things she won't ignore are those centipedes that always seem to find a way in. If only they weren't so cute!
Contrary to popular belief, the "richest" Dragon Lord Vildra does not care for material wealth. She seems uninterested in having mates, family, tribe, worshipers, friends, or any other social connection other than servants. She also appears heavily isolated from current events. It is for these reasons, as well as her personality, that she has been designated the True Neutral among Dragon Lords. -Dragon Lord Council

- AngerManagementRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Honestly I'm bad at reviews and the reason why I'm doing this is because I've read stories half as good with more then double the recognition and I'm just doing what I can to fix that.
Um, it's good. Worth reading. I'll be reading every new chapter. Should be on rising stars. Was very easy to get engaged with the story for me, I don't know how important it is to know that for the average person to know that or how well something that was very easy for me to get into translates for ease for someone else but it'd be a very helpful thing for me to know before I stat reading a story so I'll keep it here. Um, yeah, give it a go, it's good. - ShadowKnight6992Royal Road★★★★★ 5.05/5 really good
the Mc is a true anti-hero but more neutral where things happen and she’s usually the cause.
the side characters are amazing and hilarious to read about, and I like how even though they have near identical names, the personalities of each of them is so different, you can instantly recognize them. So good job
the plot is actually really well done especially for a character with no desires, like I thought it would be like a okay? But the author really blew it out of the water with this one.
yes the grammar is good and not immersion breaking, might have a extra letter here and there but the word is still there, so figure it out.
5/5 I wish there was more - InkBladeRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0This story of dragons and centipedes certainly makes for an interesting read. As one of the few first person books that goes into a "found text" style it has a lot of charm. However, I also have to mention that it has some issues that come with this presentation that could he improved upon.
Starting with style, again I'll state I'm a big fan of the first person diary-like presentation. It certainly helps make the story feel unique, plus the alternate perspectives help shape the world and give it lots of character. However, I would also say that this causes it's own issues. For one I felt it was really hard to orient the world outside of her base, simply becuase there's a lot of information and not a lot of description on how locales relate to each other. Better description or a map would go a long way into making this more clear. Secondly, I think a lot of characters don't explain their environments well, and I found it hard to get a picture of what they looked like sometimes. More dramatic imagery around locations or people would gonna long way, or adding more perspectives from regular characters would help get a better understanding of scale.
Story wise, I think the main plotline is entertaining. The author knew what they set out to do and pretty clearly followed a plan. However, I feel this story ended way too early. I think it could definetly benefit from more of everything, really. Due to the lack of time between conflicts it feels like you get pretty desensitized to the carnage, and having more of the work flesh out the world as a whole would give it more stakes. Also, stronger emphasis on the brutality would help the reader pictuee why she seems to be so feared. The MC is pretty aloof, with not a lot of care to most people around her, which in turn makes it difficult for readers to get attached to most of the people. The focus on the main character makes it progress smoothly, but at the same time limits the setting and characters, causing it to feel almost ba - The CommentatorRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Ok, so I'm going to start off this review with something positive. I really liked this story. It was a short, fun experience that gave me some ideas from my own writing. However, it was not perfect, and I'll explain why in the next couple of paragraphs.
First, the style and grammar. For the style, I think that it's impeccable. I have read very few stories that are in the form of diary entries, and even fewer that have done them well. This is one of those that did it well. Also, the way that the diary is used as an actual part of the plot is interesting. For the grammar, I'd give it the typical Royal Road review. Good, but not perfect. There aren't many, but there are occasional spelling, punctuation, and formatting mistakes.
Secondly, the story. I really enjoyed it in the beginning, but in the last few chapters, it felt like it stopped making sense. I've read a couple of stories like that, where new information is introduced at the end and pretty much makes everything else seem irrelevant. I don't particularly like those stories, since they pretty much invalidate the struggles and achievements of the main character. This story doesn't do much of that, but it does enough that I feel like it deserves four stars.
Lastly, the characters. I honestly really enjoy them. I think their drives (or lack thereof) make sense, and that they have (mostly) real interactions. They feel pretty real, like if people were put in their situations, they would act similarly. I don't think there's much else to say, I just like them.
Anyway, that pretty much finishes up my review of Diary of a Mining Dragon.
PS: I like how the dragons never get a true description, so it is left up to the imagination. - DimanariRoyal Road★★★ 3.0I would start by my most basic criticism - grammar: no one proofread this. which leads to a ton of grammatical errors and typos in the later chapters. I'm not a grammar nazi anymore, but 2 years old works shouldn't have typos. you had the time to fix this.
characters, not outright bland, but many examples of the "mary sue syndrome" where characters warp around the main cast to make them "more awesomer" to the detriment of that character's own consistency - this goes quintuply as hard if said character is a dragon.
honestly at times it feels more like a slaughter fantasy for the author rather than the natural progression.
now the good:
the writing style is interesting, as a mix of journal/diary entries and limited POV(until the ending chapters where the diary is completely thrown away) might've been better if the MC never had her POV and kept only the diary, but it was interesting.
worldbuilding, I can see there was love pored into the worldbuilding, but some aspects(especially regarding the dragons) were tacked on rather than actually thought through(I can understand why, given the author's frustration at the whole 'dragon council' stuff).
seriously, with good grammar, it would've been a 3.5/5, it's not amazing, it's not for everyone, but it's better than mediocre, it does something interesting with a fairly unique world and some characters you can have fun with.
