- AmoebanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story kicks off with a strong start, establishing a harrowing background for Captain Ford amidst a desperate call to war against the demonic invaders on an otherwise perfectly normal Sunday.
Style
It's fast - action-packed with death and carnage trailing a grisly wake as our heroes try to save whoever they can - and themselves, while they're at it - from powerful foes that typical weaponry is ill-equipped to face.
Tension is kept high and you're left feeling that any one of the cast might be eliminated at any moment as more people and more demons are introduced, and the means by which they are dispatched is likely to be... unpleasant, in some horrifyingly dark ways.
Story
A nice mix of exposition and mystery is woven throughout the initial chapters, helpfully guiding us through established methods to battle the demons, as well as invoking questions on their origin, and how humanity had possibly survived the centuries-long war they'd been waging.
During the initial chapters, the bones of the story establishes itself well, providing the framework to grow in scope to a truly epic scale.
Grammar
It's tightly written, rocketing from one moment to the next to keep stakes high and highlighting the true depth of struggle the characters face. There are some spots where the story might benefit from some longer passages that explore the immediate situation in a little more depth, but overall, the words flow well.
Character
The story works hard to weave backstory into the current narrative, rather than jamming it in wholesale, such as elements of Ford's past being recalled in response to what's currently happening. Likewise, character development is deftly handled in the interactions between Ford, Simrin and their fellow soldiers, swiftly giving insight into who they are. - LightHubRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story grabbed me from the very first chapter and hasn’t let up since.
Ford is one of the most compelling leads I’ve read in a while. Simrin is a great balance to Ford—sharp, strategic, and dependable.
The moment when she’s out of options and the purple light shows up is bone chilling! - Md Zahid FahamidRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Well I've only read a little and I can already guess this is pretty good. Specially the cenamatic change at the beginning was awesome. I liked it. Well can't say everyone will like it or not. But if you've come to my review make sure read a chapter. I mean at least give it a shot it's worth it.
- The ScavangerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It’s pure adrenaline. While I didn’t get significant lore in the first chapter, the thrill it gave me made me binge straight to the latest chapter. It does have some rough edges, but I think it's definitely worth a read.
Highly recommended if you love horror blended with relentless action. - ValdenePatriarchRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Haven't dove too far, but this has alot of potential with a few tweaks.
Writing style is where I feel this story is kinda lacking. But just a bit. Descriptions could use a bit more variation, and I would love to see the characters have a bit more agency in their scenes. There were points where I felt we were just being told what was happening rather than being in the moment with the characters.
The story is easy to digest but not in a lazy or simple way. It doesn't try to pretend to be deep while still being more than surface level. Imagine solo leveling with an actual plot lol.
Grammar is spot on, no complaints. Very easy to read, just the repetition at a few spots drew me out a bit.
Characters have unique dialogue, found it was easy to picture Ford when he was talking compared to other characters. Unique dialogue is hard to do so that tells ya the author has talent. There definitely seems to be a very well thought out backstory to Ford that you get natural glimpses into, nothing forced, no info dumps.
Very excited to see where this goes! Demons beware! - Minhas507Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5Review of Cycle of Chaos
The story opens with a visceral and emotionally charged prologue. Ford’s memory of his mother’s final plea turns into a sudden, apocalyptic event that immediately throws the reader into chaos. The sense of urgency, dread, and loss is greatly executed. The tone is dark, high-stakes, and cinematic, which suits the post-apocalyptic military setting. My kind of story.
Pacing:
The pacing is consistently fast and action-driven, with barely a moment to breathe between high-stakes combat, emotional flashbacks, and military operations. Some readers may appreciate the adrenaline-fueled ride, while others might crave occasional slower moments for reflection or tension-building.Some repetition in tone/intensity can risk emotional fatigue. More downtime between scenes could enhance tension payoffs. But that's the issue with this kind of story and that's not something I mind that much. But again, this is just my preference.
Characters:
Ford is a compelling protagonist: emotionally scarred, fiercely determined, and carrying a deep inner conflict. Again, my kind of guy.
Simrin is another standout—a strong and capable leader with her own vulnerabilities. The squadmates have distinct quirks, but as of the first 5–6 chapters, many of them lack deeper layers or arcs (James, Olivia, Mickey, etc.). Some secondary characters still feel archetypal or underexplored but that could be because the story is still in its early phases. But the dialogue occasionally feels overly formal or expository.
Writing Style & Grammar:
The prose is cinematic and vivid, with effective use of sensory details, emotional cues, and visual metaphors. However, there are noticeable issues throughout—awkward sentence constructions, and occasional wordiness that could benefit from some editing. Nothing major but some awkward phrasing and repetitive sentence structures. But again, not a big issue for me. Just thought that I'd let you know.
World-Building:
The world of Cycle of Chaos feels dange
