I'm hoping that Risens and Tawny end up together at some point and I'm looking forward to learing more about what makes the king an imposter!
This has tobe fifty words long for some reason.

Ours is not to reason why, but to do and die.

Overall I have throughly enjoyed the story so far. There feels real depth to the city and wider world which unfolds to the reader as the MC moves around.
The MC is interesting and you can feel the internal conflict developing as you move through the story. I hope there is further development and insight into his background and training before the story began, as I feel this would be valuable.
Minor criticism would be at times there feels to be a bit of over explanation during tense fights which takes away from the appeal of a fast paced fight. In addition, at times the MC feels under resourced and lacking in ability for an apparent ultimate assassin of the King from the outset. There is also little explanation as to why the MC has to sneak absolutely everywhere, even within the castle. I can understand always having face covering to not be identified but sneaking around at all times could do with some explaining.
Despite these minor criticisms, which are actually minor and meant for feedback, I look forward to seeing the direction the author takes this story.

Oh noes! I reached the end of the current chapters… And what a thrilling, ominous, dark but hopeful ride it’s been. Risens seems to be destined for great things, but I think he needs to grow beyond who he has been up til now. Thank you for sharing this tale that you have so far made public to us all…!

You've a got brutal, atmospheric world that throws you right into the action with Risens, the King's Assassin. He's got things to do, and even more going on under the surface.
The story has a great balance between action scenes and quieter moments that deliberately reveal Risens as an actual person and not just a killing machine. There's a sweet spot here and it feels great.
The magic system is really awesome and it feels natural with how it is introduced. That's about all I want to put here because discovering it yourself is part of the fun.
All of that said, Risens is what makes the story work so well. Brutal killing machine? Check. Inner turmoil? Check. Political stuff that doesn't overwhelm? Check.
If you're a Progression fan, check this one out. You'll be in good company.

… that this book wasn’t written sooner. It sinks its sharp blade in from the first blood-soaked sentence and does not let go. Beyond its unapologetic violence also lies a character arc of both intense passion and purpose.
The storyline is brutal and brilliant and it’s got me begging for more.

I really like the story. I am absolutely horrendous at voicing my thought process so this is just a review that is not going to have any substance beyond just filling the 50 word gap I have 15 words left so this is gonna take a little bit now two

This is a very enjoyable story. It is only published up to chapter 37 at the time of writing this, and seeing the plot unfold the way it does makes for a fun read.
At first I didn’t know what to expect with the MC, because we are dropped into the telling during what is a pretty gruesome act. Then, as the story progresses, it takes what I find to be very satisfying turns in the character and plot development.
The progression and magic systems are both unique and also familiar enough to scratch that itch I’m looking for when reading this genre. It is steadily moving forward while at the same time making me ask questions about what is actually going on with every advancement.
The addition of secondary characters has given the story a much more rounded feel for me, and has turned it into something I fully plan on reading for as long as there are chapters to consume.

Just starting out and I'm hooked. This is a great story full of twists and turns. I'm excited for every chapter. The main character does a great job dealing with the problems thrown at him and the writer does a fantastic job keeping you in suspense without a cliffhanger every other chapter. Worth the 5 stars.

The story gets high marks because it's interesting and well written. There's a lot of details and plot being introduced, so there's plenty to sink your teeth into. However, it's not a writing style I personally enjoy. It's very dark and moody. Just not my thing. I took a break over the last week and have zero interest in picking it back up. So if you're at all interested in the plot please give it a try even though I'm not digging it.

The story is interesting, I like the magic system that brands you with a matk for the powers you are granted. The fact that the brands can fade if neglected is a nice touch.
My only complaint is the editing. I usually don't notice typos but there are a lot. Typos break my immersion and generally make an otherwise good product look bad.
