The first odd thing was the imbalance in the flowery prose in the beginning that is not carried through. Also, the book goes from said to wail - does it talk?! The story does not make a lot of sense and has some odd imagery that doesn't make a lot of sense. Then comes the interaction with Daphne and the witch and Daphne despite everything is unprepared and has no will. The story concludes oddly and it feels unresolved.
