Description

BOOK ONE ON KU!

Not all luck is good luck.

Maya found herself at a character creation screen. Who was she before this? Why was she creating a character? What was the game? No idea. But she had nothing better to do and no reason not to play along.

And when given the option for a rare luck-based starting class, how could she turn it down? It was rare and special! That must make it good.

Right?

Character-focused, low-stakes, post-death upload.

Hard system: if the stats say she loses a fight, she'll lose the fight.

Randomized outcomes: I roll dice behind the scenes regularly, so events flow according to the whims of chance. Nothing is set in stone. There is an overarching plot, but how the details play out and what path we take to get there is up to fate.

I reviewed this story earlier all the way back at Chapter 16, rating it 4.5 stars, and I can now confidently say it's earnt the other half a star and then some. Trickster's Luck is very possibly my #1 favourite story on Royal Road, and it's up against some very stiff competition. I don't think I'm even exaggerating when I say I wish this story would never end; there's so much to this lovingly-rendered world that it feels like a real place, with real inhabitants, and so much cunning mischief to be had.
Where do I even start? I might just have to list the biggest pluses. There are so many:
The mysteries. These are what got me hooked in the first place. Yes, there are the broad strokes of the overt plot: Our main character is introduced to a virtual world (which is a mind-bogglingly immense environment at macro scale) and goes about discovering its game mechanics, but the real meat of the story lies in the secrets lurking behind the scenes. Some of these are obvious. Some are less so. Some hinted at way back at the beginning are still simmering away threatening to rear their heads when I least expect it - and the wait is worth it, because the wait is fun.
For a story about tricksters, it couldn't be more on point. Unpredictability, mysteries and secrets are what you will get in spades. You could say I have something of a weakness for these things.
The mechanics and strategy. It's a litRPG, and a stat-conscious one (note this is not the same as stat-heavy: the data never gets in the way of the storytelling), and very well-planned. The systems are extremely original and consistent, which of course means they can be cleverly exploited by their users. Can, and are. Frequently.
What's all the more impressive is that this is never abused to show off how special the main character is (as many litRPGs are wont to do); rather, it's presented as a known key feature of the setting. Every process from character creation to magic, arena fighting to class abilities and more are so d

I haven't read it yet but i just want to say this, it doesn't matter if your story is slow, in fact, that makes it even better when we get to something awesome, just don't drag it out to long or you'll kill it

Ignoring the spoilers used to hide parts of the stat-sheet, I can honestly say that it's one of the greatest sheets I have seen throughout the entirety of reading RR fictions. Pretty much everybody defaults to using the blue colour on every part, but this author here had the brains to colour code the whole thing. It's time like these where I hate being colour blind, because I know that I am missing out on some of this action.
Ignoring that rant about a small detail of the story, I would say that this fiction seems pretty solid. I haven't gotten far enough in to really know what's going on, yet the plot set up at the start still seems like it mgith develop into something pretty interesting soon enough. One only has to wait.
5/5 from me. Would have given 6/5 due to the stats but I sadly can't

I really like this story. It seems to be your usual run of the mill litRPG where a character is now in another world, and there are stats. Plus magic, a system, etc. And that's not wrong. But it's a very comforting sort of story, and you get the feeling that there's more ahead.
We're not sure why or how Maya has been transported into this world. And neither does Maya herself know. She can't remember much at all really, but she knows about fantasy and games, so given the choice of this new life, she takes it.
The tutorial and intro is pretty long, but it was realistic and a really fun part. And not only because I understand playing with character creation for three hours before even starting. Maya's logical about her choice, and thinks about it- because this seems very real and you can't just pick what looks cool without thinking it over. This is relatable and sensible and it gives a good overview of who she is. It also gives us a good overview of the world to come, and all of the races that we're going to meet. I like that she had character slots to spare and saved two other characters for later, it'll be interesting to see how that works into the story.
No grammar issues, a good pace. The style is what we're used to- good prose, broken up by blue boxes with stats.

Not a bad start.....  interesting premise.....  but I'm wondering how the "game" unfolds....  ????
Will the MC be overpowering?  Just how will luck play into the plot?  Most importantly, unless I missed something in the math, won't the MC be, on average, unlucky?   And thus losing more than winning?   You know, like Vegas?

Can't say too much that has not been said already but every comment helps a little right?
Definitely along the Isekai trope but in a somewhat unique manner. The MC is not OP at all but there is a ton of potential if she plays it right. You never know if she is going to lose or win a battle/match/confrontation/etc which makes it realistically up to chance. During loss she responds with normal human emotions that dont seem forced at all. When she is frustrated you were getting frustrated for her situation already... you truly put yourself in the MC's shoes and her choices do not let you down.
If you like the thought of a light litrpg with a well rounded main character, promising character relations with a subtle mystery undertone and a flushed out magic/skill system... look no further. It's definitely a slow burn at first but it DOES pick up.
P.s. the author is pretty darn active too so expect regular chapter updates

First off, I want to say that the description is astonishing, the writing is great, and I am a big fan of the small tweaks that have been made to classic mechanics.
    Now, the formalities:
Style - However you interpret this category, style is on point. The writing is exquisite, the scene setting is perfect, the narrative form is great, and everything that falls into the LitRPG category has been handled masterfully. I particularly like the presentation of stats and inventory, and more than anything I like that these are included at the end of each chapter, so you can still read this as a novel, and not a maths textbook.
Story - The story won big points with me straight off the bat by giving the reader a reason why our MC was in a game world. I know it sounds like a small thing, but if you are taking someone out of setting x and putting them in setting y then I want to know why... y? In terms of story progression, I'm reviewing on the early side, but there is plenty of promise, with inter-player factions, which suits the genre perfectly, and an ever-present meddling deity. All in all, a lot of potential.
Grammar - Overall very, very good. I spotted some typos but that comes with the territory. The writing really is quite exceptional, both technically and linguistically.
Character - Maya is not for everyone, and she certainly isn’t for me. I don't tend to get on with characters who have mood swings, and, at least in the early chapters, she is grouchy, rude and petulant. She claws back respect with some logical thought processes, but she generally feels like a little ball of egotistical rage. I'm still scoring this section pretty highly though, and that's because every character has been injected with some personality, and they are all interesting in their own right. Asviloka could populate a whole world with engaging NPCs, and arguably has.
The sub-sections aside, you may notice that the overall score is not the some of its parts. This comes down to pacing vs investment.

Let me preface with the fact that this story is worth the read, its fairly unique, writing is good, characters aren't bland bowls of soggy oatmeal and the world is industry standard enough to be enjoyable and familiar.
The biggest problem i have with luck based systems, and there are quite a few out there, is the fact that they rarely feel organic, at any point, the author can say "whoops, better roll something good today for this big quest" and completely blow any sense of stakes out of the water (which, to be fair can be done in any book, lit or otherwise but tends to be more prevalent in luck based books), and it relies on the integrity of the author to try and keep a lid on this sort of metagaming writing style which, in all the books i have read, tends to creep into the story like a hungry shark.
the system our MC is using is fairly unique and fun, i like that it has more backstory than dots on cubes and it allows the reader to feel invested in figuring out what it all means beyond the overview of the world, letting the personal enquiry bleed into the world at large, which is GREAT storytelling. another gripe that the author has so far managed to avoid is the  "gosh i hope he rolls well/badly enough to escape this very contrived situation!" that ties into the stakes issue and these contrived unbelievable circumstances and situations tend to pop up on the regular for litrpg books in general, almost as often as sudden harem that makes me drop them faster than trying to pull a cake out of the oven barehanded. credit to the author for dodging these "only for the MC" style situations that dont slot into the story, there are a couple, but they blend well enough based on the world and personal situation that it makes sense and is done well. the controlling diety aspect and the fact that there is some form of competition going on for this dieties favour gives a lot of leeway for contrivance, and is once again, done quite well and adds to the story rather than takes awa

Nice LitRPG with a somewhat ditzy female lead in a fascinating universe with interesting mechanics.
    Grammar:
I didn't notice any mistakes. I might have missed a few typos, but there can't be many. Definitely 5 stars.
    Style:
The writing is very good. There is no purple prose and no extraordinary voice, but it does its job. The story is written in limited third person POV following the protagonist, and it works.
    Story:
My favorite part is definitely the concept. I really liked the setting and the magic/game system. The way magic works on world 9352 and the luck mechanic are creative and cool. The premise of someone uploaded into the game after their death a few hundred years later has a lot of potential. The rest all makes sense. I didn't check all the numbers, but I didn't notice obvious mistakes. The author actually uses the system and things like random rolls to decide what happens. It's currently in the middle of an update, so there are no stat tables for a while, but you can still follow the story easily.
The plot is also pretty good. I struggled to get into the story at first, but it was captivating later. The story can be a bit winding at times, but the unexpected twists and turns make up for it. You never know what's going to happen, but it's definitely going to be a wild ride. This is probably due to the way the story is written, with no clear outline and rolling numbers, but it works. Personally, I liked the middle and end better than the beginning, since the story took a bit of time to get off the ground and introduce other characters. Also, be aware that this is in many ways an underdog story, and so far (chapter 77) the MC is still far from the strongest player, so don't expect power fantasy here.
    Characters:
My biggest issue was that I didn't like the MC. Especially at the start. She's a forgetful, oblivious, unconcerned mess - not too unrealistic, especially considering her situation, but I had trouble relating to her. It got better towards the end. Alt
