Description

In the unremarkably chaotic Centauri 9 solar system, three very different beings from three very different planets are accidentally chosen by ancient, sentient Time Crystals—shards of spacetime with the temperament of toddlers and the power of gods.

There’sRenk, a painfully precise bureaucrat from the red-dust world ofTarnis, who believes everything—even time—should come with a form in triplicate. There’sKelari, a spore-witch from the sentient jungle planetSylvae, who brews tea strong enough to melt existential dread. And there’sGrub, a hat-obsessed goblin scientist fromXarth Prime, who thinks the key to mastering time lies in haberdashery and light head trauma.

None of them signed up to be chosen. None of themwantto be connected by fragments of ancient power. And certainly none of them are qualified to deal with the increasingly bizarre consequences: spontaneous time travel, temporal hiccups, angry gods, and the appearance of a fish-based cult that worships Wednesdays.

But as their minds become linked across the stars—and their timelines begin to leak into one another—they’re forced to unravel a mystery so big, so complicated, and so far above their pay grade, it may involve the actual architecture of the universe.

Meanwhile, somethingin the void is stirring. It’s watching. Waiting. And writing an ominous monologue just in case it gets a chance to use it.

Time Crystals and Chaos is a sci-fi/fantasy romp full of improbable bureaucracy, sentient foliage, bad time puns, and the creeping suspicion that the universe might be held together with duct tape and sarcasm.

This book is highly inventive and hugely entertaining. Made me smile all day after each time that I read more of it. But it also brings with it a deeply satisfying undertone of 'our world' social commentary and human condition philosophising. I have even found myself quoting various phrases and statements from Time Crystal's and Chaos during general conversation! Sentences like 'Not malevolent. Not benevolent. Just waiting' ... And 'None of them signed up to be chosen' ... And 'the temperament of toddlers and the power of gods'. There is an intriguing and compelling gallery of characters for us to enjoy following and, actually, to associate with (I already had a favourite, as soon as we started to be introduced to the characters, but of course you know that could change at any moment, very like the fortunes of the characters themselves). The plot takes causal happenings, enchants and interweave them and hands them over to us to enjoy. Brilliant! It has a very flowing and easy-read style, almost conversational, which makes for an exceedingly satisfying reading experience. Fans of the writings of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett and similar writers will thoroughly enjoy this book and appreciate its appearance in our digital reading world. Deeply impressive debut work by this new author!

I love this, very engaging unlike other books by other authors, it is very nicely laid out. Once all of the other chapters are out, I think people are going to be in for a treat. It is a very promising chapter, and personally, i really enjoyed this first chapter and I am sure more people like me are going to love this too. I have nothing to critique about it, and possibly one of the best I have read of all time
