How do you make a good first impression? Trial and error.
College is supposed to be an exciting time, an opportunity to meet new friends and make lifelong relationships. However, Kaitlyn was never the social type. Talking to people has always been hard enough, not to mention romance.
Getting transported into a dating sim seems like the perfect opportunity to change that.
But even here, affection is not so easily earned. As Kaitlyn is beset on all sides by grueling classes, stinging loss, and her own faults, her hopes for change slowly give way to a fear that she'll never escape the endlessly repeating semester.
Then again, anything is possible with enough practice. Besides, it's much easier to make a good impression the tenth time around. And no matter how many times she fails, she can always try again.
And again.
And again.

- Another bookwormRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I am more excited for new chapters here than in super supportive.
The characterization is where this serial shines. No one is a Mary Sue. No one is perfect, and every single side character is distinct.
I fall for every male lead along with her and wish they were real and in my life. I then mourn their loss besides her. For all that I’m a sucker for rom-coms, I typically dislike the leads and am annoyed at their stupidity and behavior. I also mind that this guy who ‘has it all’ falls for the same generic awdorkable shallow ‘journalist’ without any in universe explanation for why he is infatuated with her. And of course either they split over miscommunications or everything is exactly perfect without needing to talk about it. Not here. For one all meaningful interactions are earned. For another, she needs to truly grow and change as a person in different ways to be able to have a true connection with each of the male leads. Finally, the relationships are mutual, where each half grows and learns from the other. Also, the author experienced the environment first hand and it shows.
The style is excellent, flows, and combines the character growth of the truly good time loops with the lightness and hope of rom-coms with just a hint of horror and tragedy at the epicenter of time loops.
There are no grammatical issues besides the occasional typo etc which is corrected when pointed out.
The story has structure, goals and different arcs that follow naturally and make sense.
Basically, a 5/5 that would fit among the top 10 on the site. - GreaterGreenRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Disclaimer: I have never read a romance novel, and even the stories where I appreciated the romance subplot were pretty much all tragedies. So, while I simply cannot believe that this is really a typical romance story, know that you will need to be able to handle some serious emotional punches. But the entire premise of this novel pretty much guarantees as much already.
BUT! This is not a story optimised for the feels or to be overly melancholic. Instead, it is a truly well-written story about growth you can lose yourself in. I mean, I read these 150 chapters in 3 days, while 'officially' at work 1.5 of these days. And it is not just the MC that grows, but you might take something out of it yourself. I definitively think that I might be able to understand others just that tiny bit better, with the new perspectives I got. The only downside is that you will have to go through some awkward/overblown-but-could-easily-be-resolved situations, in the beginning, to set up future growth.
There is much more you can say about this work, but most surprising to me was how extremely personal this story felt. Like, I don't just feel like I got to know the characters in the story but the actual non-fictional author behind it as well, which is concerning, to say the least - I tried to get as far away as possible from parasocial stuff, and this is what gets me? Seriously?
But in all seriousness, I have read personal works before, and they tend to be more wish-fulfilment or power fantasies, especially in web novels. This story instead puts even more stones in the way of our protagonist, which, compared to these wish-fulfilment stories, feels more like sadism.
The only very high-level critiques I could bring are that 1) the other characters are larger-than-life personas, walking stereotypes turned to 110% perfection that escaped from a dating simulator (or Stardew Valley, which is the closest I can get there). This is perfectly fine with this particular setting, only something that has - Havoc CipherRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a story I've been reading for a long time, and probably my favorite minimum-fantasy version of a time loop. Kaitlyn spends years at college age, growing and gaining experience in ways that I honestly envied a lot of the time. It's genuinely encouraging to see a story about someone growing in such realistic ways, and really succeeding after a while. Very sympathetic character, and a surprising degree of depth about multiple different areas of study. Kaitlyn, you lucky dog, going to college for fun without really paying anything... aside from the trauma, I suppose.
Beyond having any particular criticisms, I can't even think of anything I would particularly hope to see improved. This is a really thoughtful, well-researched, carefully engineered story of time loops, college, and even some romance.
10/10. - Nathan Randall HoltRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Even though people almost never get physically hurt in this story, Kaitlyn faces terrible challenges. The game makes it difficult for her to even get to the dating sim part with academic challenges and the need to actually live through what a game would normally just show you. In a show "Alice in the Borderlands" there were four categories of deadly games, and those of the "hearts" category were considered the worst for the way they trampled on the players hearts. In this story Kaitlyn is trapped in a brutal hearts game and much of book 2 is spent recovering from book 1. Even so, she manages to learn and even come to thrive in this world, so overall I expect it to be rather uplifting.
- QielRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If your #1 priority in fiction is characters rather than plot (like me) than you'll probably love this story.
The story follows Kaitlyn, who is suddenly transported to the world of a dating sim that she only vaguely remembers. Through trial and (many, many) errors, her goal is to find a way to escape her new reality.
Kaitlyn is very socially awkward at first, stuttering in almost every line of dialogue. However as the timeloops progress, Kaitlyn improves herself more and more, becoming a better version of herself every loop. I'm a big sucker for character development and Kaitlyn is one of the biggest reasons why I'm loving this fiction.
Review Start:
This story is one of my current favourites on RR and, like others have said, a breath of fresh air. It stands out from the other stories on Royal Road as a romance and almost YA story. The author writes very well and doesn't spoonfeed the audience the story. Not explaining obvious inferences is a good touch that kept me on my toes and made me feel smart when I inferred something that wasn't explicity stated. I liked reading the clever clues and foreshadowing (that I missed the first time and only understood in hindsight) and going "Wait, WHAT?!?" when the reveal happened. More than once I have been either surprised by or expected a reveal and have enjoyed the story either way.
Style: Not too much to comment on here. The author writes in a way that is descriptive but not too flowery to distract from actually reading the story, and is straightforward but not dry. I'm (unfortunately) taking 0.5 stars off since the first few chapter's pacing was so slow I dropped this fiction for a month before starting again. Pacing is well done after the first few loops though.
Story: The story is great. With the premise being a dating-sim you might expect the story to be broken up into arcs with each Love Interest, but you would be wrong. This is character-driven story and not plot-driven. The difference is that the characters move the p - Time Traveler KnightRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Was recommended this book and bought it today and read the whole thing. Super recommend!
Yes, it's a time loop. Yes it's a college dating sim. It's very well structured and I appreciate the trials the protagonist must face.
So far not very mushy. Just the right amount! Trade in your swords and magic staves for a girl who cooks in the common area of the dorms. 😁 - jjetpackRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a fantastic time loop story. It reminds me a lot of Groundhog's Day. Groundhog's Day is one of my favorite movies, and it follows a cranky antisocial man stranded in a time loop centered around a small town as he chases a girl while gradually improving himself. Likewise, Kaitlyn finds herself stranded in a time loop based in a alternative world and chases love, gradually improving herself. Groundhog's Day started my love of time loop stories, and Alone Once More is one of the best I've read.
This story has some key differences, but it plays them very well. Overall it's much more college slice of life than a comedy. The length of the loop differs as well, being a full semester long. This leads to less down-to-the-second timed hijinks and more in depth relationship building and impactful scheduling. Yes she's looping, but to accomplish longer goals she has to choose which to dedicate time to on each loop. This also ties in well with a dating sim's 'routes', so it's kind of like she's playing the game over and over again. The fact that Kaitlyn isekais into a dating sim is another major difference. She is genre savvy enough to have quite a few expectations, and she goes into the loop as a lonely girl zeroing in on the promised potential boyfriends. She ends up disappointed. Yes, there are five eligible bachelors who from what we've seen are quite worthy of being fantasy boyfriends. No, they aren't going to fall in love with her if she runs into them enough times. She'll actually have to woo them, which is quite the challenge for her socially challenged self.
That brings up the biggest problem readers might have with the book. Kaitlyn is incredibly, incredibly awkward and bad at socializing at the beginning of the story. She passes up or even turns down opportunities to make friends or network. She is often absentminded and fails badly at achieving anything of note the first few loops. But she does slowly get better. And as a character, she is written really well - lil_literalistRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's a solid story of time looping, with an MC who makes very realistic choices, and also grows quite a bit throughout the novel, both in skills and personality.
The romance is kept to PG rating.
Also, the academic details in the book are genuine. The story feels like a STEM major wrote it or was consulted on those details. - nami_amagawaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This was the best forking thing I've read all year. Though, it also made me feel super guilty and unproductive because here I am binge-reading a webnovel while the MC is being bullied into obscene levels of productivity. I am impressed by her morals, though, because time-loop shenanigans can result in some reeeally sketch behavior due to the lack of social consequences, and while we see a tiny bit of that early on, she's kind of like a sheltered baby panda when it comes to crime. It's kind of adorable and makes her a very appealing main character.
Grammar and writing style are solid. There might have been one or two misused words, but they didn't detract from the story. No graphic sexual content, which is a plus for me, but might be a turn off for others. (How can there be sexual content if your love interests are doomed to a swift ego-death after you kiss them?) There IS a really scintillating mystery about the wider world and how it functions relative to the game's content. The capture targets are absolutely adorable, and I can't wait to read Ian's good ending! <3 - suboo121Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Some of the best characterizations you will see in a web novel. This is a time-loop story done right.
It starts with the FL being probably the most socially awkward, cringe-worthy person you can imagine - and it doesn't show her suddenly getting better. It captures the essence of time loops by highlighting tiny changes in her as she grows until she's become someone completely different.
But while all that is fun, the best thing about this story is its characterization: each character is absoluely vivid and life-like, each voice so distinct that you can just imagine them speaking in front of you. The author does an absolutely stunning job showing the interactions between characters - the subtle nuances, the complex emotions and feelings, and so on. Just wonderful.
And while it's not your standard-fare web novel depicting LitRPG System Apocalypse #2001, it's such a perfect time loop: the setting is small and limited, but each loop the author manages to peel away new layers of that setting. Each iteration delves deeper into the story, in a way only a time loop could. All in all, an absolutely amazing story and the standard by which all other time loop stores - or hell, even any character-driven story - should be judged by.
