Remember all that nostalgia for toys and/or video games? Go into this story with all of that information, and you get a wild tale of wonder, a powerfully emotional tale of toys trying to survive a horrifying modern threat. This story goes through the lengths of portraying this old toy store as a struggling impoverished city undergoing an alien (video game) threat, having the toys bunker down in their home like a military war zone of war heroes and survivors.
The toy characters are pretty interesting, additionally so if you can imagine a toy in your mind. Author employs the use of making sure these toys are "recognizable", playing off of real toys that we would be more than familiar with, really humanizes them all.
The game characters, meanwhile? From what I've read, they are ABSOLUTE MONSTERS. Monsters that the author specifically takes the time to write video game font dialogue for, leading to an- eerie, unsettling feeling whenever we're face to face with an Arcadian. They chat as if they're inhuman beasts that our toy characters are forced to fend off and fight like actual aliens. A powerful premise that I think really works for this story.
There are some minor grammar and style touchups to consider, but I still think it's solid material. The author did a good job overall, and the story's really engaging to read beyond my own criticisms of the tale.
Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend giving this a read! The author's got a work of passion here, an engaging work that got me hooked and emotional throughout what little I've read! - ZacheasRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This story is like a Dark take on toy story meets the last Samurai. It's got a fun and silly sidea with toys battling video games but it's got characters with depth and commentary on old verses new. The story starts with action, tension and clear stakes. very good hook and very engaging. The story is overall well writen. very clear description of the events. The actions and words of the characters seem natural and logical based on the situation. very good job. i wil keep reading this.
