Description
“Ruling is the duty of oversight, to oversee instead of create. To govern instead of live. It came with power and prestige, with obligation and responsibility. Soldiers fought and farmers farmed, but to be King is to rule. To maintain the illusion of power one’s forefathers had built. Marcus didn’t care for any of it. He saw magic when he first opened his eyes, and nothing else ever compared. But the King is old and he an only child. Decisions had to be made. Important, hard decisions. No one expected much of him. Not in regards to anything but magic. They were right to. Until the cube. Until it taught him what life meant for people not born into nobility, and that all his skill with the arcane did not make him immortal. That running from problems did not, in fact, make them go away. Marcus Sepsimus Lannoy—Marcus to the friends he did not have—touched something he should not have on the day he planned to run from his problems.” Inspiration taken from The Menocht Loop, A Practical Guide to Evil and everything else I have ever read in my life. But mostly the first two, though not overly much from either. Concepts and the like. I hope to do them justice. Am I rambling? I feel like I’m rambling. I need more reader to be enjoying this story, so that the author can be more motivated and more chapter to be released.
Thank You. - Big BlobberRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It’s still early on but this book seems really promising. Interesting characters and good pacing so far. For lack of a better description I’d say the book is only just now getting out of the tutorial phase (it’s not a system/litrpg book but you’ll know what I mean) Excited to see where this goes.
- CetusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Main attraction points of the story for me were the fact that the main character is not some Gary Stu, and the author haven't made him edgy just to show he isn't a good guy.
Also the magic is structured but the story doesn't take thousands of words to describe every small aspect of it. - AsinineAardvarkRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So far this wonderful time loop series is keeping the magic that made Value Loyalty Above All Else so great while applying to an original world.
The main character has recognisable and understandable flaws and is already showing character growth, side characters introduced for a short period have clear and present motivations and behave accordingly.
I would thoroughly recommend both this author and this series. - Danger_noodle_appreciatorRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0As a general rule I'm on royal road to enjoy some goofy fantasy plots from amateur writers. Stylistic weirdness, uncomfortable or lacking dialogues, and other problems are par for the course.
So what happens when you combine a genuinely compelling fantasy plot with an author who is a master of the stylistic portions of writing? You get the Warcrowned!
I cannot express enough how impressed I am by the realistic dialogues, the robust and interesting characters, and the compelling but not overdrawn action found in this story.
The author has a discord which is two chapters ahead. I rarely see any grammar issues but those that do appear get hammered out there prior to RR release.
The story is fast paced - unlike other stories this author is not one to drag out an arc. While it makes me somewhat concerned for the future longevity of this series - it does make the reading constantly exciting. So far so good.
The characters are extremely robust and don't act like silly tropes. They have motivations and desires of their own that don't always coincide and both antagonists and protagonists act rationally as influenced by their background and position.
A true gem. If you are looking to add another to your follow list - picking up the warcrowned is a no brainer. - DefectivebyDesignRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The novel description came off as a slightly generic fantasy gimmick novel, and I was questioning whether or not to read it, then I read what it took inspiration from, and it was not exaggerating.
That said, I notice there is some good back story, and it would be a complete waste to write the entire novel about being stuck in a magic cube, and never continue past it. Which is typical of RR novels. So, I would hope the novel truly does follow a practical guide, and continues this absolute epic down every rabbit hole until the entire continent is conquered, or whatever the end can be. It's probably good enough to finish every side quest, then throw in some slice of life / side story.
If this is a comprehensive long term project, then it absolutely is a new practical guide. Thumbs up for quality. Every character is well written and has their own part to play. This is on par with the greats so far. - DoggowoofRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Characters are very authentic
The novel touches upon heartfelt concepts of empathy, duty, and courage
Beautiful show-dont-tell prose
Smooth read, funny and engaging
The MC is likeable, unique, authentically flawed, and capable of being liked (by us the readers) and uplifted. The maybe-romance plot looks promising too, yet the story has not gone so far as of yet.
10/10 would recommend - Finteh_CanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I enjoyed the few chapters I have read so far. I started expecting more and was thoroughly disappointed when I finished the current released chapters. I would highly recommend this so far and it looks like it’ll be a wonderful read.
i can’t wait to see the main characters development - GremictRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.017 entries in and there has yet to be any point I thought was awkward or not written as well as it could be. The magic system seems well thought out, the politics are politicking, the fighting is fun to read, and the characters are all people. Plus, the protagonist is AroAce, the type to summon a succubus just to talk with her. I haven't had this much fun reading high fantasy since Mark of the Fool. It's a really good start.
- HTML_LoadedRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Can't say much at 8 chapters but the writing quality is great, the story original, and so far it's been very entertaining. Theres a clear start and direction and the tempering arc is introducing the world and initial development of marcus. I look forward to the rest of the story.
