I will have to give this story four stars. The grammar is flawless. However, the transitions were, at times, jarring, making the story hard to follow.
There were times I didn't know a scene had transitioned and was caught flatfooted when, one minute, the world was ending, and the next, she was being chased in the woods by Beni.
What worked and what it did well was portray the female protagonist as a likable who has lost a loving family. I legitimately felt sad when her family disappeared into the shadow.
This story, despite its flaws, has good characters and a relatively simple and easy-to-follow world despite the transition issues. I enjoyed it and will reread it and update my review accordingly.
Style: It was slightly janky in transition but had good cliffhangers and was overall smooth.
Story: Intriguing and hits at a magic system. The main issue with the story was janky transitions. For example. The family disappears into the shadow at the end of chapter five, and the hero is separated from her family. Then Beni is chasing her through the destroyed village.
Grammar: No real problems. Grammar was flawless
Character: Likeable, and therefore, not a bad stereotype of a female lead, but she feels like a real person.
