Description
Nero died and awoke in hell.
A grinning face, a gun to his head. That was the last thing Nero saw in life. A fitting end. He'd made his fortune by helping the rich and powerful exploit others and get away with it. Unfortunately, death is fairer than life. In hell, Nero is thrust into the middle of an oppressive regime with humanity at the bottom and Demonkind at the top. Worse, a mysterious imp insists Nero and his demon slaying magic have some pivotal role in overturning it. True or not, he'll need to master his newfound powers just to survive this hostile world. And maybe, just maybe become the God of Hell somewhere along the way.

- AcaiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story stands out on Royal Road with its masterful use of “show, don’t tell.” The author paints a bleak yet compelling world through vivid details, immersive descriptions, and natural character interactions, making every scene feel alive. Rather than relying on exposition, the setting unfolds organically—through the weight of unspoken tensions, the harsh realities of survival, and the quiet struggles of its characters. The protagonist feels real and relatable, shaped by hardships without being defined by them. There’s a strong sense of progression, and I’m excited to see them grow in strength gradually, overcoming challenges in a way that feels earned rather than handed to them. Despite the grim atmosphere, the story never feels dreary; instead, it grips you with its depth, intrigue, and the constant sense that something greater lurks beneath the surface. Compared to the countless generic stories on the platform, this one is a cut above the rest.
- Arnac BahariRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The review title says it all. Royal Road needs more of these types of stories. Stories whose whole point isn't gaining a few levels every chapter, but actual character development with expressing it through skills and titles he earns. Though a bit rushed - sees a character (Nero - MC) plunged into hell and realistically scuplted by the sum of his experiences. The world is visceral and the author does a great job of showing it.
What makes GoH great is the developed characters.
The town (tower as well) shows how fear can create turn good men (well... not exactly good since they're all in Hell) into demons and gives a chance for bad people (like Mr. Con Artist - Nero) to be heros.
I'd genuinely excited to see how Nero grows. - That Weird DragonRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I am not good at writing reviews but feel the need to do so anyway, as this story has captivated me and has been seen by far too few people!
The Good:
The Characters are all so different yet feel like believable people, with their actions being understandable based on their individual pasts.
An example of this is the MC, Nero, he plans every move and is sceptical about people wanting to help him, it just makes sense with the life he lived on earth. Based on the beginning you might even think that he is just evil and egotistical, because that's why landed in hell, right? He is smart enough to know what he did was wrong, but that doesn't mean he didn't care at all.
This story has a whole roster of similar complex characters which really make you care about them. Sadly the author knows how to keep up the stakes: I am really not sure if this was done perfectly every time, but death is a common part of the story, even for the "good guys". The positive I see in it is that it makes it feel more real, no perfect fairy tale, it's hell after all. The stakes are always there as you can never be sure if this will be the last time you see somebody, it makes you root for the characters. Sadly it is not a thing everybody enjoys and it's hard to make a death feel earned. In some ways it's realistic as in real life, death also doesn't wait for you to finish a character arc. I feel like this story still pulled it off quite well, as every death had at least the Characters start onto their path of betterment.
The Bad:
There are a lot of grammatical mistakes. Not so many that it stops you from understanding or enjoying the story but so many that it's hard to completely ignore them.
Other than that it's hard to point out more. I really enjoyed the characters and the story. I won't say they are perfect, but still a very enjoyable read I can recommend. - Reader1606Royal Road★★★ 2.5Gradually mc started acting more and more idealistic as well as childish. We don't expect a corrupt guy who gained a fortune from deceiving and swindling people to feel great amount of guilt from every little thing he does. But he cries about everything like a teenager. No, you can't be this naive and have that backstory.
All characters are emotional and have strong sense of idealism (??) even that addict believed people should help him. Everyone have moral obligations they must do until they snap and can't do it anymore.
They are having moral dilemmas in Hell. That cultists, Nero, Selvas, Gunter, Ember everyone these have same elements. Only different ones are demons for now (?) and we didn't started to examine their characters.
Also, general intelligence in story feels pretty low, I could think three different solutions to all problems they faced. Then characters choose one of mediocre options that barely lets them live but suffer. They don't like using their brain. Instead they say they are feeling upset because of this and that.
In summary, Nero (mc) isn't what's promised. I tried to imagine him as 16 year old American teenager that got issekaied but even that couldn't help me. Plot has potential but I find characters too crybaby so I am out.
