Grass Eaters [HFY Military Sci-Fi][Completed]

Description

When alien civilizations clash in war, you wouldn’t expect a prey species with short claws, blunt teeth, soft hides, and no natural hunting instincts to be a threat. But as one unique species of psychopathic Grass Eaters rises to the apex of the food chain and begins to ruthlessly exterminate their peaceful neighbors, the dying carnivores ask: who can possibly stop this interstellar menace?

This is an anti-cynical HFY sci-fi story with the reversal of the usual predator trope, focusing on technology and military strategy.

What to expect:

* 2,000~3,000 word chapters

* Positive, grounded depiction of humanity

* Space battles with a semblance of consistent rules

* Occasional "slice of life" that move the story forward

* POV switching, including sometimes antagonists

Schedule: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays.

Grass Eater is a tale of survival against impossible odds, a gripping space opera that flips the predator-prey dynamic on its head. Through the lens of multiple races, each with its unique perspective, the world-building unfolds seamlessly, painting a vivid picture of a galaxy torn apart by war. Currently, there are only a couple of races that were introduced as of Chapter 9, but in the future, we may yet see more races and more dynamics happening between them.
Grionc emerges as a weathered veteran. Despite the setback, her wisdom and experience may yet serve as a guiding light in the darkness of conflict. Vastae's green but determined nature adds depth to the narrative, while Speinfoent's pragmatic approach adds a layer of complexity to the characters. All of the characters are written beautifully to portray the nature of war.
The author skillfully navigates the delicate balance between tension and emotion, drawing readers into the heart of the story with every page. The exchanges between Grionc, Clebret, and the rest of the squadron are particularly poignant, driving home the harsh realities of war and sacrifice. As the narrative unfolds, it becomes clear that survival is not guaranteed for any of the characters, and Amelia's forced cold indifference toward the happenings around her serves as a stark reminder of the high stakes involved.
The grammar is stellar. There are no mistakes as of reading this. Nothing that detracted me from fully immersing myself in the story. Perfection!
Overall, Grass Eaters is a masterfully crafted tale that leaves me at the edge of my seat, wondering what sort of atrocities those crazy bunnies will do next.

Everything about this is pretty rad. I'm glad I caught up before it got stubbed a while back.
I like how the combat is portrayed, with the missiles taking hours to reach their intended target in space. Seems like a lot of writers forget about that part when writing Space Combat, but not this one.
Of course, seeing Terrans have powerful military might despite their smaller numbers always invoke a sense of pride in my little lizard brain that maybe we can achieve this IRL a thousand years down the line.
    Give it a shot.

Science Fiction, several different species and societies of foreign life forms, and a great setup for a series.  This was a fun light-hearted series without a heavy reliance on previous terminology.  So far the human characters have mainly taken a supporting role, but a critical one, with hints at increased involvement in the next book.  I eagerly await the next book and can’t wait to see how some of the leftover story threads play out!

This is an excellent Space Opera series that reverses several common tropes.  It is definitely well-written and exciting.  The author has a solid grasp on space combat tactics, large scale warfare and diplomacy in addition to varied and well-written characters.  I am keenly awaiting more as it comes out.   Strongly recommend!

The Malgier, this story's protagonists, are like a Stellaris Fallen Empire or Idiocracy, fallen into ineptitude, decadence, and corruption by centuries of peace, so watching them flail helplessly against the main antagonists feels a bit slow and frustrating at first. The first dozen or so chapters are like the Malgeir being on the loosing side of Order 66, which might be a few too many.
After the chapter "First Contact," though, it more than makes up for it by steadily pushing the gas pedal to the floor and not letting up until every ass has been kicked.
The antagonists, the Znosians, manage to be both competent and evil, which is something a lot of stories find hard to do for some reason. They're not cartoonish mustache twirling villains, Racist Evil Elves/Orcs/Nazis in Space Yet Again, or mindlessly insane space demons. They just think everyone else should die, and they're methodical about how they do it. Having a strong and interesting villain is just as important to a story as the protagonist, and the author knocks it out of the park with the Znosians.

I really enjoy your story. It's refreshingly different with having the herbivores as the threat as opposed to the usual carnivores. I also like how the bunnies names for attack groups etc. as those, contrary to their actions, sound cute.
I don't write myself, but I find your writing to be quite easy to read. I like the changes in PoV very much.
Keep up the good work :)

For the first few chapters, I wasn't sure. The pacing and focus of the story changes as it goes. Although it starts with a focus on politics and espionage, it eventually ratchets up into full-blown space opera battle.
Also, it took a while for facts about the different alien species to sink in. In fact, I'm still not sure what the Granti or Sth... whatever that cowardly species looks like in comparison to the Puppers.
Style - Good writing, excellent use of foreshadowing. Interesting play of characters and concerns against each other. There are some chapters that are written out of chronological order - but this makes sense given when the information reaches back to the main characters. There's also a good deal of humor. I especially like the author's ideas about ice cream.
Story - The plot has been increasing in intensity. At the current chapters being written, I'm locked in. However, the first chunk of the book was difficult. If I had a suggestion, recommend reworking some of the first chapters. After all, that's what a new reader will see first.
Grammar - Perfect. No problems noted.
Character - Overall, very good. Major characters are well-defined, with clear behaviors and goals. I especially enjoyed getting to see the human's very ethical interrogation methods from the point of view of the not-so-ethical Buns. Even so, due to the shifting focus, I have a hard time getting very attached to any character in particular. If anything, my favorite character to read is the Longclaw commander, just because of his tenacity - but I'm pretty sure he's only a minor role. If he dies, I will cry for him. Most of the rest of the cast? No tears.

Overall a very good read. The story is interesting, and the author hasn't left a single grammatical error in the story, or maybe I didn't notice any. The characters weren't too outstanding, but there were some that I really liked, like Ten
    (Eleven)
    Whiskers Ditvish, Sprabr and Felix.
I found myself sympathizing with the Saturn
    Sirius
Free Zone, which the author probably didn't intend but oh well.
I found this story early enough to read it beginning-to-end for free, as it was still being written, but I'd recommend you to buy it if you're interested. Though I myself am too broke and would probably end up missing out on it if I just found it today.

Orbital mechanics lovers rejoice, this is for you.
This story is just about military strategy. While there are some main characters, they play a lesser role in context of the story. But the strategy part is executed very nicely and never feels liken an over exposition, dont even thing a greater character drama would help the story

This story lacks focus. In timeline, character perspective, and progress of the story. Remove the flashbacks and cut the amount of character perspectives in half would both help makes thing focused and make it where actual story progress happened.
No issues with grammer or the like.
Characters that are in authority are odd. For example for some reason we have a tender hearted women in charge of brutal black ops. Makes no sense.
