Update - December 8, 2025
Hey everyone!
I'm currently taking a break from posting chapters. In the meantime, I wanted to give you an update on my writing progress :)
I'm editing chapters I wrote earlier and plan to publish these as Book 1. I'm also revising the chapters that will make up Book 2. I've received some great feedback from readers, and I'm working on incorporating it to make these chapters the best they can be.
I will announce on my page when I'm ready to post new and revised content on this site.
Also, I’ve decided to remove chapters 2 and 3 of this fiction from this site. This is due to concerns about stories being stolen and republished elsewhere.
If you have any questions or are interested in chapters 2 and 3, feel free to send me a message.
Happy holidays in advance!

- Elliot MoorsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Realms of Remembrance tackles a lot of interesting worldbuilding concepts, and revamps old fantasy tropes with its own flavor. As readers we're immediately thrown into a larger narrative with pre-existing character relationships, which creates a sense of mystery and gives you a lot to sink your teeth into.
Style - The story is well-structured, with proper paragraphing and chapter partitioning, which makes it easy to read and follow without it dragging.
I really enjoyed the way the book throws you right into the MCs plight so that you get to figure out his motives, current standing, and pre-existing relationships as the story goes on. It shows a lot of thought on the author's part that they've mapped all this out.
Grammar - Quite good. I don't recall any errors off the top of my head, or any tense breaks or anything like that. Dialogue tags are formatted correctly, everything. So that's definitely a plus for the story, it was never jarring to read due to frequent mistakes or anything like that.
Story - The worldbuilding here is super rich, and you can tell the author put a lot of time into it. The way the magic works feels like a hard magic system, but since the reader only gets limited information, you're always uncovering new pieces of how it works and connects up.
There's also a political aspect to the story, with multiple factions moving against each other. This was handled well, especially in the sense that the author introduces ranks, religious orders, social hierarchies etc that all help the context feel much more believable.
The worldbuilding is definitely the highlight of Realms of Remembrance for me.
Characters - The characters serve their purpose to the story. Like I mentioned earlier, I really enjoy the way the MC was introduced in medias res and catching up with familiar faces that are unknown to the reader, so that we get to be introduced to that organically.
The character concepts were also well executed, and you can tell that the author put just as mu - HC MillsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Realms of Remembrance is a real work of love. Its deep worldbuilding shines through in Mister Kant's gorgeous visual storytelling, as layer after layer is lifted to reveal the powerfully dramatic story at the core of this tale.
If you allow yourself to be sucked in by its life-like, engaging characters, you can expect quite a thrilling ride.
But be warned: Not all is as it seems... ;)
Disclaimer: I helped edit this story, so take my opinion with a grain of bias. ^^ - MisterE005Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0My preferences regarding stories may be limited, which is why I've never read about a story where the MC is trapped in a dream world. It's new for me, though that makes it all exciting, because it adds to the overall intensity the story already features. The chapters are intensive, psychologically thrilling, and overall interesting to follow along!
Sometimes the dialogue can be extensive, and I don't like that due to personal preferences, but it doesn't taint the story all that much. The author is very open to criticism too as far as I've seen, so this makes the story worth the read overall. - PBJ_TimeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I always love me some dark fantasy, or at least high fantasies with some dark tones, and this story is no exception. There's talk about politics, an entire people considered as second class citizens, and memory manipulation that drives the plot very well.
I also love how the worldbuilding isn't just walls of text but instead grows in small bits as the MC goes through his journey. They've got moose-drawn carts, if you're wondering. You can't get any more awesome than that.
Grammar is also excellent, and the style really helps build tension with what the story is going for. Overall, go read this book, dang it. - RainyLiquidRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've been slowly reading this story during my downtime at work. Through circumstances, I happened to come across it after the Author messaged me. When reading, I tend to try to get caught up or at least very close before leaving a review. After all, stories can change constantly in quality on arc-to-arc basis, and this one is no different.
I'm happy to say that this one has managed to hold my interest through most of it. The character Adam does his job of keeping you focused in on him and learning the world and the rules as he does. The story itself while having action elements mainly has that take a back seat to instead focus on the mystery about just what is going on and how it unfolds.
Part of the story itself is learning of the world that our characters have found themselves in and learning the rules that make it vastly different from our own. Its magic system is well thought out and there were several times I really enjoyed what I was reading.
Over all I would say it is good, but I'm really tired and need sleep. - Reader of TalesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0There is a war going on.
One side is clearly evil, with mind control being their main tool. Blatant mind control giving armies fighting with no fear of death. More subtle mind control turn former opponents into spies no one suspects. Of course, after a while everybody suspects everybody, which is just as bad.
The other side is not clearly good. There are several factions and they might have been at each others throats if the Big Evil hadn't been there.
Adam, the Main Character, is feeling tired and just wants to retire.
But who can retire when you have been accused of treason and both friend and foe stands against you?
He is sneaking around in his old home town to find out who is who in this complicated conflict. Can he find friends that will trust him despite the accusations against him?
One of his "friends", Caine, turns out to be a traitor and things turn pretty hectic for a while.
One thing leads to another and he find himself transported into "the Realm of Remembrance" of Caine. This is a magical realm that represents the memories of a person.
And this is where most of the action takes place. The MC enters various memories and both he and the readers learn more about the war and the world. Which is an interesting way of doing flashbacks.
The magic is strong and interesting in this world, and I like it. At the beginning of the story, the MC doesn't know magic, but he is learning.
I have one minor complaint, and that is the MC is also the narrator, and he is not reliable. He says things as he sees them at that moment of time, and he turns out to be very wrong more than once. I personally don't like that, but other readers may disagree.
The plot is twisted. One chapters friend can be the next chapters enemy, and vice versa. And your enemy's enemy is probably also your enemy. Keeps us readers on our toes.
I look forward to reading more. - RokoRaspberryRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Really enjoyed reading the story so far! There is a real depth to the storytelling, world-building, and character design that draws you in and makes you think about the motivation, themes, and hidden secrets hidden within. I’m a sucker for subterfuge and right from the get-go, we see a whole bunch of it.
Style: I’m personally a big fan of the little details that enrich a world and elevate it into something that you can imagine yourself inside, and Realms totally delivers. Pacing is pretty good and I’m able to follow the flow of the story quite well.
Story: So far I’ve enjoyed the story itself and the first couple of chapters really draws you into the intrigue. Only comment here is that there is quite a bit going on though, so expect to pay attention while reading! The details, names, and hints felt a little overwhelming at first, but everything works out once you get deeper and understand the context a bit more!
Grammar: Nothing that would significantly disrupt the flow.
Characters: I think the characters are generally likable and in this case really make the story. A good mystery that surrounds the characters is what I personally like reading, so it really pulled me in. Once we start understanding what the taint is, it makes you question everything! Great interactions, dialogues, and who doesn’t like some violent tendencies. Edo makes the characters feel alive, and that’s great for the story!
Overall really great read! Would recommend everyone to take a look! - Sloan the JanitorRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A wonderful, gripping story where nothing is what it seems. There's a cast of rich and deep characters, who interact with each other and the world around them in many creative and awesome ways. Like HC Mills, I've also been involved in the editing process, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. Are you getting into this? Oh boy, you're going to be in for a ride you won't forget soon.
The world is solid and well thought out, amusing banter is well mixed with serious conversations. As Adam tries to solve the mystery surrounding the Taint, I couldn't help but think along with him to try to get to the root of the problem.
It's a wonderful piece of work, I can only recommend reading it. Dear potential reader, have fun, and Edo, best of luck! - WilliamGravesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Story: There is a lot of potential in this story, it effectively combines dark fantasy and mystery to portray an intriguing plot. The concept of an enemy employing memory modification to subvert populations is a scary idea and serves to build tension. The upending of the main characters life serves well to push the narrative and motivate the character, while disturbing revelations create more mystery. Along with a literal trip down memory lane, an idea rarely seen and well used here.
Grammar: Apart from some minor errors, the words flowed well and were easy to follow.
Style: The author is exceptional at building tension and intrigue, utilising many descriptive words to convey scenes in a life-like fashion. Building the mystery compels the reader to continue chapter-by-chapter. The sentence structure flows well and is easy to read. Events are described using show rather then tell and serve to place the reader right into the scene.
Characters: The characters truly make the story, the author has weaved quite the mystery surrounding our main character and every chapter serves to entice the reader to know more. I found the main characters situation heart wrenching and it made me want to root for his success but also made me suspicious about everything. That mystery that surrounds all the characters would make any reader suspect a twist.
Overall the story is a unique take on dark fantasy, employing effective world building and a unique concept. Highly recommended. - Wistful_WillowRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This story is about a man that is part of a resistance group. He is fighting against an organization that inflicts people with something called "taint." Taint is similar to corruption. They can use it to manipulate the minds of others to bend their memories, personalities, and moods.
I feel like it describes the world and the scenery pretty well. There is a good range of character types and the plot is introduced fairly early on which is good. It does not come off meandering or aimless. Everything that happens is tied to the overall plot.
There are a few things that stood out to me.
1.The words "taint" and "Penduli" are used too often.
2.Sometimes the dialogue seemed strangely casual and modern compared to the rest of the story.
3. This involves a character arc in chapter 4:
The wife's reaction of instantly hating him and wanting to murder him seemed jarring to me. Most of the characters act in a fairly realistic vs cartoonish style, but the wife doesn't. Personally, I think there were a few ways she could had been made more natural.
A) Lean into the whole fearful and confused damsel in distress trope. Like she's so helpless and uninformed that she doesn't have an opinion and just wants her and her son to be safe.
B) Make her so dazed and robotic she has no idea what is going on. Like dead eyes, acts on command, emotionless, etc.
C) Have her respond to some of the back and forth about how the other one is her real husband even if she doesn't believe him. She seems fairly lucid, but she doesn't seem concerned about how her "husband" is clearly gloating to this "stranger" about how he stole his wife. She doesn't react to it at all, just says he's crazy, then comes out swinging. If she's lucid enough to order people around and fight, she's lucid enough to be suspicious.
