The style of the story is like an old tale. Rather than spending a large amount of describing every detail, the story leaves lots of room for the reader to interpret it. This works very well with the fact that the MC also doesn't understand the world. Often, you as the reader can realize something before the characters ever do! Which is always a good feeling in my opinion.
The prose is very well refined, and it does a great job at describing the landscapes, and especially the food (of which there is lots). The episodic format reminds me of television shows, each episode is its own little scene, perfectly contained. Even if you only have a short time to read, you can pop in and get a nice dosage of wholesomeness.
Story
What do you get when you combine a super cute dragon girl with a beautiful world and wonderful food? Well, you get this wonderful story of course!
The story starts off with a pretty standard isekai start, but don't worry, it does not descend into a tropey power fantasy. It reminds me of some older Isekais, where rather than overwhelming power fantasy, it was just a nice adventure in another world.
The world is fantastically built. The author even built several new languages perfectly suited to the world and the people in it! Its clear that they have put in a lot of effort to create a cohesive and beautiful world.
One thing that is often overlooked in stories is food. Well, if you want a story with lots of good food (and insanely vivid descriptions of said food) then look no further, this is the story for you. You want some strange berries, or perhaps some extremely spicy meat, or anything else really? This story's got you covered for sure.
Characters
The main duo are perfect together. Yuya is very inquisitive and likes to learn lots of things, all the while supporting his cute companion, Sil the (adorable) dragon girl, while she learns all about the world alongside him.
Both characters, and even the side characters, feel very real. They learn, th - RainyLiquidRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Well, I've been hooked on this chapter and reading it for the past few days before I finally caught up to it, and I figure now is as good a time as any to leave a review detailing what I think of the story. Let's get into the good, the bad, and the hungry.
First things first, we need to talk about the story, the characters, and the meaning of the story that I found myself coming up with the longer I read. To do that, let's compare this to the only other story I can think of that has a semi similar tone.
Beyond Journey's End. Yep. That's right. The silly, goofy, elf mage anime that everyone loves. Believe it or not this story has a sort of similar feel to it, at least to me.
Big shocker, who would have thought that both stories that have Journey in the name are similar.
Now, I will say, for the most part this story is vastly different from Beyond Journeys End, but it has a similar vibe.
A lot of the plot is esthetically a road trip. That's actually one aspect of the series I really want to praise a lot. Every location feels different and unique. The locals aren't just carbon copies of one another and the scenery is described very well. Oh, and the food! Yeah, this story has a crap ton of food and oh boy it's amazing. I got hungry so much reading it!
Each location the characters pass through is more or less a mini arc, with us learning about the region and the area and a bit about the locals. Each place has its own customs and settings with different cultures and it makes everything feel a lot more lived and real. It's extremely well done and nice.
Of course, what's also equally nice are our main characters who are going on this journey in the first place. Yuya and Sil.
Sil is the best. She is naive but not stupid, cute but not childish, and most importantly very, very hungry. A lot of the plot is centered around her and much of the story is focused on her growth as Yuya helps her go on this journey. Through the chapters we watch her grow and develop, but in very subt - NotPhoebeeRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Yuya is transported to a strange new world where he encounters a dragon girl named Sil (for her silver scales). The two of them embark on a slow paced and cozy adventure as Yuya searches for answers about Sil's past. As the story progresses, the two of them develop a friendly and caring relationship that is honestly very endearing.
I really enjoyed this read. Although it is a slow-burn, every chapter has development and adds further meaning to the overall story. The author takes care to explain things in vivid detail (especially the food) so everything feels real! There is also a linguistic component to this story as Yuya slowly learns the language of this new world, which I thought was very well done.
Overall, I'd recommend this story to anyone looking for a great cozy read, because it is is simply amazing! 😁
