This is such an enjoyable read! It starts slow but it's a good way to really get the feel for Delores; her aspirations, her personality, and a brief backstory.
What I enjoy the most are the mix and match of fantasy races. A half-orc dwarf is such an amazing visual, it makes me giddy just imagining this stocky green man.
Also, the fact that it's a coming of age story for a 70 year old gnome bard who is such a diva by the way, using prestidigitation to clean herself (AGAIN HOW CAN YOU NOT BE EXCITED BY THIS???) The first chapter alone is filled with good world-building. It feels so alive. Which makes the slow start worth it.
The humor in this story is really subtle from the usage of hurdy gurdy to hornswoggled but genuinely full of heart.
Downside is the paragraphs are too thick and it takes a while for me to progress(personal problem) but I'm barreling through because it's a great read(I've said this a lot now). It could use a bit of trimming. Some sentences means the same, just paraphrased. Please trust that the readers can fill in the gaps of the character's gestures.
