- DimensionalWriter27Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Ok, I...dont know if I wanted to be confronted by my own mortality and the existential questions that would bring today...I'm glad at least it was through a good book this time.
The story, altrough short, handles it one, consistent theme, masterfully. The characters are handled with care with the time they have.
And the style is something else, it feels like Im reading a painting in the best way possible, where I can all the passion from the artist in it.Highly recomended! - AveryLineRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This story has a haunting lilt to it, like lapping waves on a shore. It touches on themes gently and comes back to them several times, adding additional nuance with each pass.
Style is the strength of this story, so I'll start there.
STYLE:
The imagery is rich and carefully constructed. Especially the dreamlike representations of movement. There were several passages where I really got a sense of movement, and how surreal and skewed it was from our world. Footprints in sand, or voices across distance, and other spoilery parts I won't comment on where movement is important.
It's not easy to make a reader actually feel the thing you are trying to convey. For that alone this gets five stars. But there are even more stylistic strengths, such as the delicate balance between horror and wonder, that keep the story balanced.
GRAMMAR
I gave this 4 stars for grammar. Not because there are glaring grammar errors, because there aren't. You aren't going to read this and find a bunch of misspellings or stupid errors. However I feel like the passive voice takes over at key times. This story deserves more focus on phrasing, because the ideas and heart are already there, wanting to shine. I think with an editing pass focused solely on passive>active would push this story over the top and really make it shine even brighter.
STORY
This is another strong point. We all have eternal questions, like "what does it all mean?" This story leans into those timeworn questions and produces something that made me rethink them.
CHARACTER
Character is tricky here because the MC is struggling to define things. Let's just say that the questions reveal character, and that progression is satisfying. The sparse character sketching leads to poignant results and is nicely incorporated into the dreamlike atmosphere.
OVERALL
Overall I'm really appreciative of the resonance the story generated in a question we've all pondered many times. I like seeing things in a new way. - InyssaRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5A short but compelling katabasis of a young woman coming to terms with the eternity she must face after death, and some of the people she might meet along the way. I enjoyed it a lot. The characterization was especially good, and the prose carries you nicely through the whole thing.
- RedMuffinRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5In the end, it all comes down to acceptance. Accepting the world as it is, accepting the questions that remain unanswered, and embracing the fleeting nature of life. It's a tale of love, loss, and the search for meaning in a world that often seems devoid of it.
The narrator's journey through multiple lives and her eventual encounter with the enigmatic man who would come to define her existence is a poignant exploration of the human situation.
The story's setting, a world shrouded in darkness with only a single source of light, serves as a metaphor for the uncertain and often unforgiving nature of life. The narrator's struggle to find her identity and purpose in this world, despite its inexplicable mysteries, is a reflection of our own quest for understanding in a complex and sometimes incomprehensible universe.
The relationship between the narrator and the man is the heart of the story. Their connection transcends the boundaries of time and space, and their shared experiences create a bond that is both profound and bittersweet.
Isaac's decision to leave the narrator behind, despite his clear attachment to her, serves as a reminder of the impermanence of life and the inevitability of change.
This story serves as a reminder that life is a journey filled with questions, some of which will never be answered. It encourages us to find peace in the unknown, to cherish the connections we form along the way, and to accept the fleeting nature of our existence. It is these connections and the wisdom we gain from our experiences that truly define us.
In the end, it all comes down to acceptance. - realnotperfectOfficialRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Did it take the author a million lifetimes to write something like this?

What I liked:
- I was confused exactly where the author wanted me to be confused.
- I felt this story much too much; much more than I wanted to or I was trying to.
- Style and syntax were almost perfectly totally flawless.
- The dialogue itself was so plain yet so visceral.
- 70% to 80% of this amazing piece of work reminded me of my own very raw and very emotional personal writing style and personal methods of writing poetry, songs, or stories.
- I loved how [this will not spoil anything] this author absolutely knows exactly what things should remain a mystery, and exactly when, and when smaller things should be revealed and IF certain things should even be revealed at all. Again, this is subjective, and I feel as though I love this because I also write in a somewhat similar manner as far as mysteries and questions that may or may not be given answers that are totally explicit to the audience or readers.
- When this author told me they wrote to express themselves as a person, and thus would write more emotional pieces, I didn’t know how “horribly” emotional. And I say “horribly” not even as a bad thing; I think I cried and had to pause and stop at least five times (or probably even more) and thus, at this time, my brain simply is out of words to convey how much most of this story totally confused me and distorted me and simply made me broken multiple times. This was absolutely beautiful, but I am too broken so all I can say, and as a massive compliment, is that this was “horribly” “emotional.”
- I didn’t expect to get hit so hard by this. This is funny because I love stories that are very raw or visceral or emotional but don’t always get them. This is one case where I got 50% of what I was looking for and 50% just got hit too hard. I - level0Royal Road★★★★ 4.0A good book, but the one chapter it has is a little long, and I really like the emotion expressed through their writing, and I also really like how you started the book and the writing style the cover is also amazing the description also I would say is not lying like some books descriptions, I see. would enjoy more chapters. even if it says it’s completed.
