Description

Ashling was an introverted deer, living on the secluded isle of Eriskay with his loving family. When Deianira, goddess of fertility, appeared to him and requested he be her next avatar he finally had a chance to live out his wild fantasies of becoming a hero. Unfortunately, the Dusk Empire didn't send a parade, they sent a bounty hunter.

As a member of the near-extinct wolven species, Khukri held the prestigious honour of being the most expensive slave on the Direwood Exchange, tasked with hunting the monstrous beasts for her company. She worked hard to attain her position as a premium hunting slave, secure in the knowledge she fulfilled her true purpose, and that she'd always have a strong hand to guide her and keep her madness in check.

As The Direwood opened for hunting season, the fates of both were tied together when Khukri met her new master, one with an order that made her question who she was supposed to be. "Protect me."

As I’m sure you guessed, this story is set in an anthro setting and explores a master/slave relationship formed between Ashling and the girl he buys as his bodyguard.

The idea was to have an erotic power fantasy with a light, playful tone while still taking the setting seriously. The majority of the book is a fantasy story, with a major romantic subplot by characters still figuring out what they want from life and each other. The erotic elements play a more minor role in their relationship, though there are a few explicit scenes.

A story that stands out for its depth and originality. If the synopsis may make you think of a usual LitRPG based on professional adventurers and light moments, the story, when it really begins, does so in a particularly unexpected and dramatic way in chapter 6, a particularly intense and successful moment. The world, the characters and their reactions are realistic and nothing seems artificial for the purposes of the storyline. Ash alternates between naivety and Machiavellianism, with an often childish way of thinking and total ignorance but a strangely mature understanding of the world and a real talent for convincing people. Khukri has a complex and logical personality for a slave, while Ashling buys her for a real necessity, a complex plan revealed in chapter 8 and far removed from the usual storyline facilities where buying a slave is just an easy way for the hero to have a teammate doubled as a bed warmer.
In summary, one of the best novels on the site from my point of view, and it's a shame that it's not better known.

mong Us (Well, excuse me, title length limit!) Ashling and Khukri have a pretty sus relationship, but I still don't think either of them should be voted out. Khukri manipulating Ash is quite like the social deception in the hit 2018 video game Among Us, though Khukri is not actually the impostor. She's definitely got a screw loose, but given her upbringing, I can't help but feel sympathetic for her. Ash knows that Khukri has problems, but doesn't seem to realize just how messed up she is, particularly in her ability to interact with other people. It is unfortunate that Khukri does not have access to better ways to interact with other people, such as the hit 2018 video game Among Us. Actually, now that I think about it, teaching Khukri to improve her deception skills is counterproductive, so just ignore that last sentence.
