Description

As far back as I can remember, I always wanted to be a magical girl. Monsters never attacked Earth. No portals opened spewing out demons, no alien invasion rained from the sky. When magical girls arrived anyway, the only enemy they found to face was each other. Fleeing an abusive home and a shattered relationship, Gabrielle Harper suddenly finds her greatest wish made into reality. She takes to her new world of double lives, drugs, and violence like a fish to water, thriving in both of her personas. But she’s still only a small fish, and the ocean is full of sharks. As she discovers a thirst for more than just survival, a thirst to carve out a kingdom of her own, she’ll learn that no weapon is more dangerous than trust. The Gravity of the Situation is a slow-burn magical girl crime drama exploring what happens when great power doesn’t come with great responsibility. Major inspirations for the story include Worm, Breaking Bad, and the excellent Madoka Magica fanfic To The Stars. Content warning: This story deals with serious real-world issues including (but not limited to) child abuse, homophobia, racism, sexual violence (only implied, never depicted), and drug use/addiction. I’ve done my best to handle everything maturely and with the weight it deserves, but for anyone who’s sensitive to any of those topics, there are likely to be moments that make you uncomfortable. Please proceed with caution. Updates weekly on Saturdays. Can also be read onSufficient Velocity.

Unsurprisingly derivative_of_life it's an author that's I know from worm fanfiction circles (one of many, it's shocking how many RR authors started with writing a Worm Fanfic). For like two years now I've been obsessively checking SV forums in hopes of the next chapter of mainly his story... And now it's complete.
What does that mean for you? Good news! This story will probably get an ending and will not be left hanging in the void!
What this story has so far?
The first five chapters had some good crunchy angst, and release. I really care about Gabby and it's not an easy thing to do so early in the story. The chapters 6 & 7 have some really fun and earned "noob village" conflict and some delightfully worrying plans of our main character. Things are starting to escalate.
What I admire most besides the angst is that external powers of this world feel like a serious and visceral threat. MC is a medium fish in a small pond, but we can hear the big fishes and they sound baddass!
