Description
In a Japan reborn under a global System, dungeons have appeared. Portals that can lead to glittering rewards and gruesome ends. Players, the awakened few with skills to conquer them, strut like celebrities, chasing fame and fortune while the unawakened cheer them on from the sidelines. Suzume Aoi never wanted that life. She was content watching her older sister shine. Until the day the dungeon swallowed her sister whole and everyone turned their backs When Suzume learns of what happened to her sister, she makes a promise: no one else will be left behind. Armed with nothing but stubbornness, half-baked plans, and a terrifying new resolve, she forges a new guild. A ragtag team sworn to dive into unstable portals and drag the lost back to the living. No glory, very little gold. Just a lifeline in the dark.

- Haru Desu KattoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've read similar settings before, but the unfairness of the character's plight and the pitiless world setting gives it a new and authentic twist. Overall, really good, with one complaint that can't really be fixed.
Style - Excellent choice of words, formatting, and turns of phrase. Keeps the reader engaged. Perfectly descriptive where it needs to be without bogging down.
Grammar - No issues noted.
Story - The setup and situation are excellent. You instantly can feel yourself in the MC's shoes, her rebellious nature, and her choices thereafter. Author did an excellent job of describing the whole world situation in just a few pages. I absolutely loved the idea of her going into situations with only her wits and preparation. I would give full five stars but the plot-armor coincidence of awakening during the first event ruined the beautiful structure that the author had built. Suddenly, she's unique not because of who she is, but what she's been given. I guess I see why it had to happen - a LitRPG where the MC has no system doesn't really fit the tag. Even so, it's still a great story afterwards. I especially enjoyed her finding a loophole to face down her legal issues.
Character - Five star great. Seeing the MC "~nya" just to get paid really adds to her desperation and willingness to endure. The other characters are likewise deep enough to be interesting. - RikijiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really like the story so far. The setting is a little dark, but optimistic and the characters are likable and well thought out. Overall the story elements felt consistent and showed good genre awareness. The LitRPG elements are understated and the story avoids the explosive power creep common to the genre - which is appreciated. Good job - looking forward to more.
- RilkefanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Dungeon Rescue Guild is a fairly fresh look at running dungeons. The main character is smart, resourceful, and underpowered. The story so far is a good balance of character development, world building, and action. I think it should appeal to most people who read RR, except perhaps for those just looking for numbers going up. I have a few concerns about the development of the story going forward, but 300 pages or so in I'm quite enjoying it and suspect you will too. Overall 5 (RR) stars, rounding up despite the criticisms below; if it goes off the rails from here I'll revise.
Grammar: I've noticed very few or no errors, even those quite pervasive here. 5 stars.
Style: there's not a lot of discernable style, in a good way. The prose doesn't get in the way of the other elements of the story but but while it's pretty spare, nothing is unclear, and there's sufficient rhythmic variation to avoid monotony. There's not a lot of description but there's enough and it's handled well. 5 stars.
Character: The MC is portrayed as being extremely smart and (fairly unusually) behaves that way. She starts as an obsessive, introverted student and gradually opens up and gains confidence as the story progresses. The surrounding cast is reasonably varied (except, somewhat unfortunately given the initial tone of the story, for all being hot young women). Their voices are distinct and the dialogue is believable. The other characters get to be smart as well as the MC. One problem here is the secondary lead, who goes 180 on a firmly-held belief without the story taking any notice about it. She has reason to, but without some comment it feels like a loose end. Also one character goes from being a hard-core professional with a bit of older sister thrown in to shoving herself at the MC, which was a bit jarring. 4.5 stars.
Story: The serial is a bit schizophrenic here - the first arc of the work has the MC being a resourceful underpowered loner, the second has her building a team and ra - Young1ivRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Warning: Light spoilers in the Characters section. I will mark it so you can skip them if you like.
I am going to be honest, I came into this with low expectations. I thought that the concept was really interesting and had a lot of potential, but I have been burned too many times by stories that I thought had great potential to have high hopes. Thankfully I can report that this story utterly shattered all of my expectations. I’ve finished all the chapters currently on RR and I loved them so much I am considering subscribing to the Patreon to read more.
Style: I will say that the writing style is a little… blunt? That’s the best way I can think to describe it. Personally I really like it, but this section is the most subjective of the four so I can understand that this opinion may not be shared by others. Besides that my only other issue is a very small nitpick, I wasn’t the biggest fan of using brackets for internal monologues. It did grow on me and I no longer have an issue with it, but it did throw me off a bit at first.
Story: As of chapter 40 (Strategizing) all I have to say on this is 10/10 no notes, maybe this will change as the story continues but as of right now I can’t find anything I dislike about the story. I will say that the romantic subplot so far has been a little iffy, but that is more of a problem with characters and the romance does actually complement and improve the story as a whole in my eyes. I will talk more about my issues with the romance subplot in the Characters section as it is more a character issue than a story one.
Grammer: A RR author who uses spellcheck!!!!! 10/10 no notes. Jokes aside the grammar here is so much better than I am used to. Sure there are some mistakes, but nothing that ever took me out of the story with how disjointed it was.
Characters: This is the only section I have 4.5 stars instead of 5, and that is because the main love interest. For those who don’t want any spoilers I will simply say that the main love interest - orknoob09Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Story
The story’s pretty new but what’s been released so far is great.
Even at the early stages it does a great job setting up the world, the Players, the Dungeons and the culture around them.
The main character’s background and motivations are established effectively.
I love how it’s not your usual “I need to make money” or “I want to be the strongest” or “Weakest hunter becomes the strongest” motivation.
Suzume’s sister died a very avoidable death, and she wants to prevent that from happening to anyone else.
Style
No complaints about the style. It’s sufficiently descriptive and dialogue flows really well.
Grammar
Same for style, no issues with grammar so far. No spelling mistakes. Proper punctuation.
Character
We’ve only been introduced to a few characters so far, but they’ve been really good.
Suzume is a great MC from the little we’ve been shown. She’s smart, hard working and decisive. When she decided to try and save people from unstable dungeons, she didn’t just hop in unprepared. She spent time studying, exercising and planning for various encounters. She’s really interesting and I’m looking forward to where her character goes and how she handles the dangerous situations she’ll no doubt end up in.
Akane is Suzume’s sister, and the little we got to see of her was enough to establish her personality and relationship with Suzume. It really helps the readers understand why het death is such a tragedy, especially since it really could’ve been avoided.
Overall
The Dungeon Rescue Guild is a promising story, and you should give it a chance if you’re in the mood for a fresh take on this genre. - tastinRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story hit all the notes. A system that makes sense, but doesn't break the story down to a number grind. Solid main and supporting character's and believable human action and reactions. The plot moves at a good pace and feels like a natural path for events to follow. Thanks for sharing this story!
- tutpuppyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is currently my favorite on RR. Despite being somewhat litrpg derivative, the MC is not trying to get stronger. There is none of "numbers going up while fighting monsters 10% stronger than the MC" thing. Perhaps this is closer to team building or empire building, at least at this point in the story. I mean, it's guild building, right?
