- molenirRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I almost skipped this story. The title is really dumb, the description terrible. I only gave it a chance cause there were so many great reviews, despite the lack of followers. Having done so, I am pleased to say, it deserves them. In fact, the story should have 10x the number of followers.
I like the description another reviewer suggested. Quiet, peaceful girl, gets swept off on the most amazing VR adventure ever!
I'm not going to spoil the story by giving an in depth review. I'll only say, give this story a chance, you won't regret it. - JeanDRaccRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Feels like Magic.
The prose, the story, the author's dedication to the little I have read shows how good this story can be. Although I am still in the initial chapters, I just love this style. I have read the other story about a dragon called Ruth which is extremely good, can't wait to see how good this one will be!
Thanks Foolish author! OwO ye deserves a pizza! - KyouzouRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0What to say...
Good pacing, great action and litrpg elements, the author also does a great job leveraging the MMO aspects. I think the character development is good but not as great as other parts of the story, certaint aspects of their personality aren't as developed as you might hope, and some events felt a little rushed to me. The dialogue between the characters and the overall team dyanmic is incredible, you can feel the bonds and camaradarie without any awkwardness.
Overall, I really enjoyed this story, I was hooked in almost immediately and spent the better part of a full day reading. Can't wait for more! - fanvaronRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really like this story.
It's a Virtual Reality Adventure, it does NOT (as far as I can tell up to the beginning of Vol II) have any great secret that it actually has a connection with reality or a parallel world or anything else of that trope.
The story is very game center with a little bit of IRL in-between.
I really like the main character and the rest of the group, I especially the fact that the MC is not a super powerful fighter or mage herself but has a more niche role with a lot of potentials.
The core characters are all very nice and unique, they are all pretty over the top and quirky but its fun to read.
I actually read thru the whole 680 pages in just under 3 days it really hooked me.
The only thing I would recommend to change is the cover and the description.
The Cover is just bad, I don't know why, but it almost made me dismiss this story entirely, I can't explain why, but to me, it seems totally unfitting I would rather see a generic colored background with the title instead of what this is supposed to be.
Secondly the description, it is not bad per se, but it has way too much information, with a lot of it not making sense to a new reader, reading it now I can see what you did, but when I first went into the story I had totally wrong expectations (I actually expected a real-world connection from the game which is why I explicitly said that this is not the case in the beginning)
So I would recommend just trimming this down a lot (the Fred reference, for example, is fun but really unnecessary) and all the stuff describing vol 1 to much imo.
I would recommend you just go with the "quite and peacefull girl gets sucked into the greatest VR adventure ever" description without too much detail/too many references. - CymiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So this is my first ever review, so please be kind as I muddle around!
This story has a cast of characters that draw you in and make you want to see what they get up to next. They are all larger than life in their own special ways, some more obviously that others (Raven!). The plot has them interacting with their game world in significant ways, but for the characters that is an effect of them being themselves rather than them actively trying to change the world. Which is part of why it's a relaxing read despite the seriousness of parts. Oh, and some fairly epic fights. How can a book have epic fights and be a relaxing read? You'll just have to try it to see!
The characters' actions in VR also end up changing their own IRLs, and while most of the action is in VR, the story flows smoothly through both and, as readers, we end up caring about both realities.
I'm not actually sure what else to say as I don't want to give spoilers away! This is a series of books I come back to read on a day when the world seems like a nasty place to be. That doesn't mean it's a world of sparkles and rainbows where everyone is always rational and kind to each other, but it is a story that focuses on people being positive rather than people focusing on the negatives of life.
Overall it is a story about hope, and belief that tomorrow can and will be better if you keep moving forward. The characters are crazy enough that they suck you into their pace, and you wish you could be their friend, though it might be a tad exhausting at times if you were. I love the style of the writing, it reads as a story - which might sound odd, but I can't think of how else to say it. Grammar is never jarring but there are some inconstancies... but given the number of chapters (and my own grammar failures) I certainly am not complaining about it!
TL:DR: If you haven't read this story, I strongly recommend it. - NeoMareRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I will be totally honest. The summary of the story is not appealing, however, it has that something that made me curious enough to give it a try. I think that was a great decision!
From the beginning, your writing style is something that captures the attention of the reader. The plot is original and your plot twists are almost always unexpected. The MC is not perfect, that is why she is so relatable.
In few words, this story is definitely worth reading! - Nitrous_HailRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Man, where do I even start?
This is good, like really really good.
I did not expect to love this, I came in expecting to have an enjoyable read that I could finish in a day or two and forget about until there were significantly more chapters.
Instead, I found a novel that kept me awake into the early hours of the morning just so I could read about how the characters relationships could continue to develop.
Don't come to this story expecting for the numbers to be crunched or status screens left and right. This is a story about an adventure in a fantasy VR world. But is holds itself to the adventure portion significantly more than focusing on stats. This is a story that the world in-game is just as alive if not more active than the real world.
If you're on the fence about this novel give it 5-7 chapters and then you'll be sold on it. I guarantee it. - SongyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0In short: I like this, I had fun, the quality is far greater than what you expect to receive on RR and if Fool published something, I would (try to) buy it and put it next to all my other hundreds of novels.
Also Raven. - MusemakerRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This is a fun and mostly light adventure story following an adult woman just finishing her college degree. The overall story has three main arcs and, as per the author, is completed. Those that have watched Sword Art Online will likely recognize some of the darker elements in the work, but thankfully everything turns out okay in the end.
I really enjoyed the first two arcs of the story. Lots of adventure, magic and other fantasy elements with some interesting twists and turns. The third arc introduced a couple of new characters that seemed a little forced and seemd to have been forgotton about a quarter of the way through the last arc. It sort of felt like the author had a more grand plan and was pushing for another couple of arcs before completing the story. Still, The final arc was enjoyable and ended well and left the reader hoping for more.
There were some oddities and a few things about the writing that bothered me to no end, as it shares many of the same foibles and mistakes that seem to be plagueing RR like some kind of contagion, but in far less frequency than other stories on this site. Overall, however, the vast majority of the work is well written. It was a fun read and an overall good experience. I hope to see more from this author in the future. - SomethingNewRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I very much applaud Fool for balancing the VR game with real life. I've read stories where the real world is neglected, and the story ends up lacking for it. Here it was done quite well.
The epicness of out main characters is portrayed in a humorous manner, but still makes the characters seem awesome.
I like how there is a death game aspect, but that it's not the main plot, only a historical event. The little bits of futuristic worldbuilding here and there, like foodpills and that parts of Rome (or Greece? Maybe Italy) sunk into the ocean bed and are a tourist spot add depth to the story.
I'm a bit skeptical of the friendship that sprung into existence so quickly and easily between our main characters. There is some attempt made to explain it, but the explanation didn't sell it for me.
Apart from the rather abrupt connections, I do like the character interactions. The PTSD reaction to the death game and life after is shown, sometimes to disturbing effect. Strangely, one scene of PTSD was portrayed as heartwarming when I found it somewhat creepy and sad.
Forsythe's sudden love of cookong seemed a bit out of the blue, but it led to rather funny paths. Raven is ridiculous. Aiden is a cool devil. They don't seem to be much outside of that. Amelia can be a bit bland at times. But it works, even if it's trope-y. Hunter is cool. Elisha is sweet and spunky.
What is really captured in this story is the feeling of being in a game. The immersion is done really well.
Awakened Aspirations is a fun read, and well thought out and executed.
It's worth trying, so give it a chance.
Keep going, Fool!
