The Art of Gold Digging

Description
This story is about:an internet troll and "critic" who gets transported into the manga she trash-talked online, and now she must save it from the apocalypse. The twist? People back in her own world are reading and commenting on the manga as it updates, so she must always stay in character.(And no, this isn't a "revenge fantasy" against a reader 😑) What to expect:comedy and satire, and eventually some darker parts. There is also no gold-digging in the literal meaning of the word (lol). It's a metaphor that will make sense at some point. Notorious internet troll and critic, Amy Stake, has "karma" catch up to her when she criticizes the writing of a vengeful Goddess and gets reincarnated into a brutal shonen battle manga known for its astronomical body count. In an ironic twist of fate, she'll only get the powers the manga readers imagine she has, and her strength will be directly proportional to how much they love her. With death lurking at every step, Amy must now claw her way into the main story by any means necessary. Scene-stealing entrances, manufactured drama, and a possibly fabricated tragic backstory… Whatever it takes to secure her place as a fan favorite before the end of the world arrives.

- HeraldedRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It’s just a great story. Her conversations with Libris are hilarious and feel like a real dialogue between friends. The comments after each manga chapter release are awesome too. It reminds me of PHO from Worm fanfics. All in all, this is an amazing piece of work and I hope the author goes all the way.
- Black JohnRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0...the greyed out "Next Chapter" button hits you like a slug to the chest. I don't think I have ever been drawn into a character and their predicament so quickly. You've somehow written a character with literal main character energy, without giving them main character energy. I am in awe, and eagerly awaiting the next chapter.
- Agent8449Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Hoo boy hoo boy! Isn't this just a treat for me!! Outsider POVs, meta conversations, layers of reality, copious nosebleeds, and the direst feeling of dread! If you've heard of or enjoyed the Korean webnovel Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint, consider giving this one a try! It's a similar feeling concept. Saving the whole world even when all it wants to do is end in tragedy.I'm excited to see more of this story-- it stands out from the rest for me, engaging itself in a way that doesn't feel too mocking *or* too serious.
- Cellinia SaluzzoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0There's very little romance in this series so far. Some side characters obviously are into each other, but the mian character doesn't really have the time or energy to focus on getting into a relationship.
However, there is definitely some set up between one of the side characters and the main character so there is a chance that something will develop in the future.
Outside of that, this is a very good read with a main character who knows how to manipulate audiences. Some scenes really bring you to the edge of your seat as well.
So far, little to no gay but there's a chance of gay in the future! - Criminal GingersnapRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Good novel, otherwise. I binged through most of the published chapters in one day.The story dips into darker themes than I expected but maintains a lighthearted tone in most scenes. So far, I’m enjoying the balance. The editing isn’t perfect, but errors are infrequent and small, and the author fixes mistakes when notified.
- Death Threat CollectorRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0As the title suggests, this story instantly claimed prime mental real estate the very moment I started reading. It has my biggest recommendations!
So let's go down the review list!
Grammar! honestly? No comments. I saw no issues, nothing bad or in need of reprocessing. No mistakes means no comments or corrections.
Character! Our MC, Amy Stake, is a very compelling character indeed! Her first appearance has her sassing a goddess who has her life in her hands and is quite peeved in a fantastically unwise chain of decisions and ends up getting isekai'd. This does not quite jive with later characterisation, but the realisation of "oh shit this is really happening" excuses a lot. Though we'll definitely need to delve more into where her mind was at at the time.
That said, I have faith in author! They've been sprinkling in delicious nuggets of characterisation and history consistently in a fantastic bit of character writing. The other characters, though collectively given only about a quarter the focus that Amy gets, are just as well done. Slowly but surely built up as we unravel their mystery and get to know them.
Story! The story is mostly about Amy, though the plot about unveiling Crow's past and that distant grimdark end of the world stuff that's mentioned is just as important, that plot functions almost as an excuse to develop the characters.
There's not much to the plot yet, but it's also pretty early on and the pacing is fairly slow. With most of the focus on dense, quality characterisation. There's a completely fair chance it'll develop into a wholly different beast down the line. But either way, it's doing a great job at what it's intended to do.
Last but not least, Style! The vaguest of categories! Frankly, most of what I have to say I already said in Story. The author seems to know EXACTLY what they want and they're doing a damn good job expressing it. There's nothing particularly special or unique about it that isn't the premise itself. But it has that one mos - DimiosRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is a shining example of what slice-of-life isekai should be.
What does it do best? Oh boy
It takes a genre that’s been done a thousand times, flips it on its head, and somehow makes it feel fresh.
The character dynamics? Chef’s kiss.
The plot? Surprisingly great! It stands out in a crowded field of isekai and overpowered protagonists.
But what _really_ makes this book divine level good?
The character development. Like seriously someone give the author a medal. Or at least a lifetime supply of food and praise.
What does the book do wrong?
NOTHING.
This isn't a critique this is a love letter. This book is like a warm hug from a magical creature that lives off your happiness and feeds you good vibes in return.
If you're a fan of the genre, what are you even doing reading this comment instead of the book?
Author, whatever you're doing, keep doing it. You have summoned joy in literary form.
(Also please, I beg you more review chapters. They are pure gold.) - Bedivere the MadRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This review is entirely voluntary and unsolicited
The title and cover caught my eye, and then after reading the blurb, I immediately jumped to the first chapter. This story is everything I expected and hoped for, and it's been a fun read so far. I am definitely looking forward to more.
Style: I will admit that the (very occasional) modern slang was a teensy bit jarring at first, but it fits the story. The main character is a modern woman who spends too much time on the internet. It makes complete sense, and it adds to the experience. Also, the comments (in-story) are great.
Story: It's a bit early to say for sure, but I'm enjoying it so far, and I'm optimistic about the future. The main character's powerset is interesting, the situation she was dropped into is interesting, and I'm looking forward to seeing how it develops
Grammar: It's a bit unpolished, but it's still 100% readable. Update: I've been reading the chapters as they came out, but it seems the author has been making edits when suggested, and even before that, they were few. No reason to dock a point.
Character: I really like the main character as a character. She has her own personality and voice, and isn't just a cookie cutter generic lead. We've gotten some hints at her backstory, and from what I've seen, she's a well-thought-out and complete character. She's intelligent and competent, so she makes for a good progression fantasy protagonist as well.
Overall, I'm enjoying this story a lot and I'm excited to see where it goes from here - Haru Desu KattoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm giving this story the full 5-stars, because it deserves it, but with a strange caveat. Everything about it seems perfectly written, but I'm not personally interested. More explanation below.
Style - Perfect. Excellent use of paragraphs, word flow, and vocabulary. Good flow of events compared to introspection. Everything is well described. A perfect example of how a book should be written.
Grammar - No issues noted. Incredibly good.
Story - The premise is amusing and spot-on for the character. The plot follows in the same vein. Each action proceeds to the next in ways that might be expected. There's a fair blend of intrigue, excitement, and outright deception. Very good.
Character - The MC is deep enough to have her own interests, quirks, and personality flaws, which influence the story. This is high praise for RR, where many MCs are no deeper than a puddle. However, the side characters are great too. Since these are characters in a story WITHIN a story, I would have expected them to be shallow and boring, but the opposite is true. Big kudos to the author!
Now for my caveat and thoughts for the author. Yes, I only got through seven chapters, so I may be missing what happens later. However, in contrast to other books I'm reading, I just can't force myself to read more. Your writing is great. Your story is interesting. But...
I guess it's missing excitement? Maybe it's hard to understand the stakes involved? Maybe I don't have any empathy for the MC? Perhaps it needs foreshadowing for coming events to build interest? As you can see, I'm having trouble pinning down why I'm not interested, but here is where I stop.
I still gave you full marks, because I can recognize great writing, however, it's missing something, and I don't know what it is. - JustarandomniceguyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I demand more chapters. This book has an original premise with a lot of potential. And it reaches the expected potential, and then some. There are few grammar mistakes, and the few mistakes that happen are quickly pointed out and fixed by the author. The characters are pretty well written. Almost good enough for me to suspect the author kidnapped real people and shoved them in the story, like a certain goddess. Almost. The in-book chapters and reviews are an incredible addition, and looking at the nonstop shipping, I can say the readers are quite accurate to real life.If I had to leave some criticism, I’d say that the book switches from funny satire to depression incarnate faster than you can say pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis. All in all, great book. Only complaint is that the chapter releases are about as inconsistent as technoblade’s update schedule.
