Terminal Fleet [Book 1 Complete]

Description
Humanity is not alone. It fights to survive. Among Terra’s billions, Lanis Osgell was one of the elite few—a Navigator, a psychic bridge that allowed Fleet’s giant warships to jump between star systems. Now, suddenly, she is nothing. Newly broken in a world she was never prepared to re-enter, Lanis must imagine a new future among the planet-side mega corporations and their fierce rivalries. A Navigator, however—even a broken one—is impossible to ignore. Warning:The first couple chapters do deal with Lanis' relationship with another woman, so fair warning! (But we do get to Armored Suit battles and the horrors of the Warp eventually!) What to expect * AI-pilot integrations * A warp space terror, with a nod to Warhammer 40k * Mega corporations with fierce rivalries * Mech battles * Space opera (especially in book 2) * A unique female MC who’s trying to regain her footing after a disaster Here's a mostly ambientTerminal Fleet playlist I made!

- Haru Desu KattoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have to admit, anything involving almost-reasonable giant robot battles is going to attract my eye, even though the genre is so niche. I came in expecting trash, but was surprised to find a gem instead. Some suspension of disbelief is still required, but not outright fanaticism. Kudos!
Style - The text is written very well with excellent use of paragraphing and separation of ideas. Vocabulary is likewise good. No complaints.
Grammar - Very good. An occasional typo here and there, but nothing that an editor couldn't sweep up. Better than most stuff on RR, so rated top.
Story - The overall plot is good. The MC's fall and then rise back into an interesting and exciting career is great to read. Can't wait to see how the latest action pans out. On the other hand, the background plot with the creeping dread and fears of infection / infiltration are less so. Would have been better for the author to focus on one thing.
Character - Really good. The major characters are each well described and detailed. I especially like the MC's impulsive behavior after her event. I think it mirrors exactly what I've seen IRL when people go through trauma. Despair leads to bad decisions, which leads to further despair, in a bottomless cycle. Luckily, the MC has a parachute. If I had one complaint, the shifting POV between the two major characters is jarring, especially since it happens so much. - Magnuss999Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0It’s a beautiful story about a young woman that is finding her place in an futuristic world where corporations are ruling and her past that is catching up to her. I don’t want to say more about the story so I don’t spoil anything. If you like Sci-fi and want to read a good story that isn’t power fantasy or lrpg then this is the novel for you.
- AnganglerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A fun tale of warp fuckery brought to a humanity growing into a galactic power.
It's about the perfect size to crush in a fay off and a delightful go at that.
You get to see the always classic progression of someone down on their luck to having a passion for existence. - GoshiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Great work, fast paced, well written, one of the best.I really really hope the creator expands this universe that he is creating, beacouse it felts alive, it also has a thing that I love , its autoconclusive. It has book format , If you like mechas, warhammer 40K , sci-fi, this is your turf.
Dont miss it and read it. - HazelRuneRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Seriously, this fic scratches The Itchwell. The characters are great so far. The trauma is handledverywell, and even relatively minor characters have felt distinctive as they've been introduced. I'll need to see more to see how things evolve, but I have a good feeling about this one.The story (young as it is yet) has been good, with plenty of potential waiting in the wings. Lots of little hints and teasers have been set just in sight for later pursuit. Once the author mentioned that......they hadn't really outlined things ahead and were having trouble directing the story around the time of this review......I could tell, but I don't know that I would have noticed otherwise. I don't think it really detracts much from the fic as it stands. The presentation style isexcellent, imho, and makes a good enough example of "show, don't tell" that I'm not even gonna knock points for the few minor perspective switches that aren't clearly called out. Even in those switches, the prose is simply good enough that I caught on right away and just kept going. The only real blemish on "grammar" is some typos, but like... even that feels pretty minor. It's perfectly readable.
- David Niemitz (M0rph3u5)Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0What a wonderful discovery! I love cyberpunk and mech stories, so a fusion of those genres - with a dash of warhammer 40k / event horizon horrors in the warp - is right up my alley.
We have a compelling protagonist that I look forward to rooting for as the competitions begin, and a nascent relationship. We’re slowly adding and developing a cast of supporting characters, and a dash of Corpo intrigue, which all combine into a mix that has the potential to go very far.
its still early in the story, but I’m excited and I really hope this one goes the distance. - DeimonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This ist probably the first space opera story I read in RR and I hope the others can keep up, because I am hooked. The setting ist gripping, the characters well written. I binge read this in a day.
I especially liked the first few chapters. The first had me instantly hooked, the following then introduced us to the world and the characters.
After that it felt somewhat rushed. For my taste to few big robot fights (at least the crucible arc felt quite short), to fast progression story wise. It felt like there was non-stop action after the crucible started.
Nevertheless, very good story which I will gladly re-read in the future.
This last part is a collection of things I noticed story wise while reading. They are not meant as critiques. The story ist very good regardeless, but some details confused me and I felt the story lacked a bit of background for some other things. I blame my brain getting stuck on the smallest details.
The MC:
Not much to say, but could so with some more backstory and evolution. We know nothing of the parents which feels a bit weird. She also talked about wanting to link with AI's again, but the desire was never mentioned before (I think). Seemed a bit abrupt and could be mentions ned before (like her missing the feeling or remembering scenes from her training.
Mirem:
Again, not much to say. But some random thoughts from Mirem confused me. She talked once in the early chapters about how fitting it is for her "to be so instantly attracted to someone who is so clearly and thoroughly broken." (Chapter 5).Seems to point to a bit of backstory, but was never elaborated.
Worldbuilding:
As this ist the First space opera Story for me, perhaps I lack a bit of info. But I would like a bit more info on how the fleet ist designed (command tracks, apecial roles like navigator etc.)
The Aliens:
Were mentioned only a couple of times. No idea of they play a major role in the later story, but they felt a bit like a side thoughts. No mentions of what aliens there a - DiskRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I don't usually leave reviews but I have to say this story is a hidden gem.I highly recommend it.It has a bit of everything. Action, romance, politics, war, philosophy. While I believe it could benefit from some more in depth world-building and more fleshed out secondary character backgrounds, what it does have is plenty enough to understand and follow the story. It just leaves the reader wit a desire for more.
- Celtish SqueeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The author says that the story is a slow burn, but honestly it never felt like it slowed down, the story grabs your attention and keeps it front and center. With the edits that the author has already made to the beginning chapters it makes the stories pacing feel much better and gives you a real sense of the main characters grief and confusion following her accident/incident struggling to find her own sense of self again after leaving everything she knows behind, and the tentative excitement and nervousness of embarking on a new path in life with the baggage of her old life still attached.I can highly recommend this story to any fan of Sci-fy and Mecha/AI stories. The only real downside that I can come up with for this novel is that the author ended it so soon, it only took me about 8 hours to read it all and the story definitely has potential for at least a couple hundred more chapters. To the author: honestly if this book doesn't get continuations with the current MC then I may have to find you and fight you, it would be a genuine crime to leave it to the dust of time.
- Ombre37Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is what the worldbuilding of W40K deserved to be, without the idiot sillyness, hole ine the story, failing to remain logic with it's own rule, and general believable, well though, well build characters, choice and line of event.
It's well writen, the character are incredibly well made, and we learn to care about them.
The string of the story, and the flow, and storytelling is good. Nothing jarring coming to push you out of the flow, and make you think "the fuck ?! It make no sens".
A good scifi story, with clear W40K inspiration (pre "golden age of tech" if you know), but clean and without the over the top, who sometime, become really hard to stomach and accept.
