  This kind of pulpy rocketship stuff is always really fun. Who doesn't like that old times raygun era? A big thanks to the author for posting it. Plan on reading the entire series but hope the author keeps writing more. There really aren't many people still making this kind of content so it's pretty tough to find newer pulp works.

  The story brings to mind the classic pulp fiction sci-fi stories in both its setting and its mannerisms. Roderick is your tech-empowered problem solver who incorporates more of the mythical Wild West hero than your futuristic lawman. The story does need a bit of a copy edit (as of this review) because of numerous errors such as rouse vs ruse, usually at least a handful per chapter. The writing was good and the events unfolded in a predictable yet satisfying style - the genre basically requires shortcuts to prevent it from becoming tedious after all. Though this does have the downside of making Roderick come off as abusive and trigger-happy. It was a good short story overall, but the trust in an off-worlder who wields such power secretively is something that strains the believably somewhat. The story itself presents him as a consummate do-gooder, but his thoughts make him brash and dismissive. Whether or not this impression is a good or bad thing will depend on the reader. I found it to be enjoyable even though I did not see Roderick as I believe he was intended.
