Description

Nothing could be worse than being trapped in an urban office hellscape...

Well, except being trapped in a 'system' governed, jungle hellscape instead.

See... Calvin lived an incredibly average life. He worked at a lifestyle app company as their Senior project manager, and while the pay was nice and it had great benefits, it was a mind-numbing adventure in mediocrity. On the plus side, he got to work with his amazing best friend Amy, and went home every night to his adorable pup Freya.

Well... he did, until a 'system seed' spawned in local space and ripped him, Amy, and Freya, from their regular lives and thrust them straight into the 'System Tutorial'.In a reality shaped by nanites, where magic is real, power is measured in levels, and slaying monsters before breakfast is just a fact of life, Calvin has one simple goal...He and his group must learn the rules of this new system to survive the tutorial and gain power at all costs because whatever nightmare awaits them on the other side might be much, much worse than they could imagine.

    What a ride this was!
Summery: Read it. It’s good. ‘Chefs kiss’
Yes, its a RPG like story, with the typical tropes you might either love or dislike. Yes, there are monsters that you might be familiar with, and the story line might be one you’ve read before. But… It’s done fantastic! Humor is woven throughout it all, and each take on the traditional bits that makes it a littrpg is unique and feels like a fresh experience.
The MC is a individual you can quickly relate to, and is wonderfully flawed in every way that makes it interesting. The only downside to him is that he’s got an even wonderful dog that steals the show for me, but that issue lies entirely with myself. The thing that drew me in the most was the emphasis on group survival and struggle. It’s refreshing to see things from different perspectives and the info dumping that we all are familiar with are instead told mostly through dialogue. The story really shines here. The only downside her was there were a lot of character at once in a few chapters, so you might need to be reminded who was who again. Still the lovely banter more than makes up for that part. I also enjoyed the fact that people behaved somewhat logical. There wasn’t an Chad Thundercock right of the bat that was 100% fine with killing monsters and that every woman was a helpless princess for him to rescue. Nope! You get a brutal struggle for survival where every man, woman and (perfect and amazing) dog needs to step up and kill or be killed.
Grammar was perfectly fine and the style of writing flowed nicely. If you actively peek under the hood you can find the occasional passive verb or grammatical error, but it’s nothing that an editor or a second read through wouldn’t find. Honestly, it wouldn’t surprise me if the author either has a penchant for writing or has written before.
    So, read it already!

It’s easy to see why this story made Rising Stars!
World-building is the author's strength, they’ve put a lot of effort into crafting an interesting and comprehensive world. The author gets right into it, but provides detail at a suitable pace that doesn’t overwhelm the reader as the characters navigate their new world.
The style makes for a very easy read. The author does a good job of showing rather than telling and this is apparent through the fight scenes which the author has already noted as having fixed up. I didn’t get a chance to see the previous versions but I believe the changes are working because I found them enjoyable to read! The stakes were sufficiently high and the rewards felt well-deserved.
I feel this is a true rebirth type of story because the backstories of the characters, their hopes and dreams for the world they left behind, are secondary to the development they experience in the new world they’ve been tossed into. There’s the odd time I would like a hint more dimension but it’s quickly replaced with the interest of where they’re going next. The main characters’ romance subplot doesn’t feel contrived. They’re friends first and equals; it’s refreshing to see.
There are no apparent grammatical issues, and it's apparent that the author puts a lot of care into their work.
Overall, this is an excellent story with great writing. Well worth a follow!

I really enjoyed reading this story and it had a lot of really fun characters. I hope the author continues writing stories like this because I want to read more of them. Certainly awesome. The premise really spoke to me as a life long fan of science fiction and fantasy and I hope there is more to come.

This story covers a lot of familiar ground, but it holds it's own and more than justifies it's existence.
The style is solid and consistent, fairly straightforward but not boring. It's easy to read for a long time, as evidenced by the fact I read considerably farther than I needed to before writing this review.
The story is, as I said, familiar ground but it's familiar ground we all love and are always looking for more of, and this story earns it's place.
The characters. This is what kept me reading this story. This is an area I personally struggle with, so a story with a full ensemble cast that all manage to make you care about them and their relationships is a true gem. I paid a lot of attention to this story specifically for the characters, as an example of what I should do in my own story and dialog.
Making you care about the characters is job one when making me care about a story, and this is an excellent example of that.
Finally, the grammar. The grammar is probably the weakest aspect of this story, but that's not to say it's weak. It's just got a few clunky sentences and all that. And lets be honest, who among us?

    INTRO
My overall rating for this story is 4.5 stars, I ended up finishing the whole story up to chapter 28 in one sitting because I was enjoying it so much, but it still needs a bit of polish to reach that elusive 5 star rating.
    STYLE
I've only given 4 stars for style because this is a story trope that has been used countless times. I don't mean to say that using similar genres and tropes is a bad thing, just that I think the top style ratings should be reserved for truly unique story ideas. Feynix has taken the typical system/tower/tutorial story and adorned it with their own personal flair. I especially love the use of 'nanites' to justify the power system rather than it just being something formless and unexplained.
    STORY
Straight away in chapter 1 we are thrust into a new world, the two main (human) characters are taken from their ordinary, boring lives as office workers and find themselves in a new and hostile environment. It quickly progresses and we follow them as they try to make sense of this 'tutorial' they have been tossed into without so much as a warning. It is well paced, with good chapter length and an appropriate blend of action, dialogue and worldbuilding that doesn't leave you feeling tired of reading endless paragraphs of explanation like some stories can.
    GRAMMAR
I can only give Feynix a 4 star rating for the grammar in this one. There were no egregious errors or sentences which are impossible to follow, but I did notice a few areas where the prose feels a little bland or sentences repeat functional words that can throw you off a bit. The difference in paragraph size also was a bit frustrating at times, jumping from one line paragraphs to lengthy blocks in the middle of chapters. In general however, they write very well, especially during high intensity action scenes that I could really see playing out in my head.
    CHARACTERS
The characters of 'System Seed: Tutorial' are the shining star here. The very first chapter gives us a quick rundown of our

I enjoyed this take on a system-based story. Quite a lot of these stories are solo levelling types, and it is fun to read one that is more group focused. This is great as the story becomes much more character driven and that is where this fic excels.
    Style
The author does well to strike a balance between detailed scenes and brisk action, which really helps me to visualise what is going on.
The author also does well not to overburden the reader with blue screens and stats (even though that is a part of the story). Many system fictions can have a tendency to be more like excel spreadsheets than stories, and this one does a great job of not falling into that trap and balances it out nicely.
In terms of writing, it's clear and straightforward. I didn’t find myself stumbling over sentences or getting lost in the prose at all.
My one significant bit of feedback is that occasionally some of the action chapters lack dialogue. This is not necessarily a bad thing but it does mean it can be description heavy and in my opinion not quite as engaging as it could be.
    Story
The story itself is interesting, the main character and the rest of Earth's population are removed from their everyday lives into the system. The sense of urgency is real, and is well told.
It is a fast-paced story and the action scenes are exciting. I really liked the sci-fi themes for the class choices. The MC made a great choice, and it will be interesting to see where that goes. But some of the other class names really managed to reach my inner edgelord and it would be cool to read some of those in action as well!
    Grammar
I saw no issues so far. If there were before it looks like they have been fixed. 5 stars on this.
    Character
The characters is where this story shines for me. I particularly like Marshall actually, he is a really distinct character and gives me Tallahassee vibes (Zombieland) which I really enjoyed. The MC and love interest are likeable and have believable reactions to the shocks being thrown

    Overall score: 4.5/5
Calvin is cool. His transition from run-of-the-mill officeman to Lupine Techlancer is exactly the kind of compelling 'self-insert' storyline most LitRPG fans look for. His relationship with Amy is interesting as well; his work 'bestie', and their get-togethers give him 'something real to look forward to' (I like prose like that, with strong psychological/philosophical implications). I wonder if they are verging on becoming more than just friends... time will tell, but I'm rooting for them.
Style score: 4.5/5. Good, albeit quite straightforward prose. The focus is on the action, and that is alright, although I personally prefer to see some literary frills and greater exploration of the psychological effects of being ripped away from the known world and implanted in some strange system-based realm... although it's technically still earth, but you know what I mean (but that's just my opinion).
Grammar score: 4.5/5. Generally good and high quality, with some occasional slight errors or typo's (happens to the best... and to me as well).
Story score: 4.5/5. The initiation of the system is well done and gripping. The progression elements are spread out rather than just being thrown at you in a big chunk - so props for that!
Character score: 5/5 I think this is where the story shines... the characters play well together. Calvin and Amy I've already discussed. Freya is a cute lil doggo and brings out Calvin's softer side (character development ++). Marshall can be funny at times, and the group dynamics just work.
In summary: a solid story that deserves more exposure than it is currently getting!

I love reading this story so far throughout my lifetime. It was such an incredible experience, and I find the battles and the characters completely enjoyable. The only thing I have a gripe with is the grammar. Everything else is great and I hope the author continues writing through and through.

Its just one fight after another. And being able to fight godzilla before you get out of the tutorial even is to much progression way to fast. Has alot of potential if the author  slows down a lot. I love the dog freya though. Always a good story when a dog is involved

Many people find writing action scenes a tough job. I am one of those few.
I think while action is a requirement of every story. The story itself shouldn't all be about the action, the fights and the deaths.
A story should be about the there before, the characters, their views and virtues, their reasons and backstories.
There should be a reason that leads to the fights, not fights that leads to reasons.
Unfortunately, this story is all about the fights, the cookie cutter action and the paltry stakes.
The characters are 2-dimensional. You know this because all they talk about is getting stronger. They are all the same. There are no idiots in the group. No selfish guy. No hidden danger. They are all good people.
I wish the story was different despite its familiar and unoriginal premise, but it's the same old.. Same old...
