System Seed: Tutorial [Apocalypse, Sci-Fi, Progression, LitRPG]

Description
Nothing could be worse than being trapped in an urban office hellscape...
Well, except being trapped in a 'system' governed, jungle hellscape instead.
See... Calvin lived an incredibly average life. He worked at a lifestyle app company as their Senior project manager, and while the pay was nice and it had great benefits, it was a mind-numbing adventure in mediocrity. On the plus side, he got to work with his amazing best friend Amy, and went home every night to his adorable pup Freya.
Well... he did, until a 'system seed' spawned in local space and ripped him, Amy, and Freya, from their regular lives and thrust them straight into the 'System Tutorial'.In a reality shaped by nanites, where magic is real, power is measured in levels, and slaying monsters before breakfast is just a fact of life, Calvin has one simple goal...He and his group must learn the rules of this new system to survive the tutorial and gain power at all costs because whatever nightmare awaits them on the other side might be much, much worse than they could imagine.

- Alec LownesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you like system-based stories, you'll want to check this one out! Feynix has brought a semi-realistic bent to the system in the form of an interplanetary society which seeks to bring Earth's denizens into its established system. The things the main characters go through during this tutorial phase are exactly what you're looking for in a system story!
Style: Feynix's writing style blends both beautiful descriptions with tight actions scenes, giving time to relax between battles and appreciate the beauty of this new and deadly world. It's like I can see the alien landscape with my own eyes!
Grammar: Nothing stands out as confusing, and I don't recall having to reread a sentence even a single time.
Story: The MC's descent into the system from their normal day-job along with everyone else on Earth is a fantastic and intriguing juxtaposition. How all of these characters have to adapt to the system in which they know they'll only have sixty days to progress until the tutorial is over gives a nail-biting sense of time running out, as its no-holds-barred once that happens.
Characters: I found the characters to be both likable and believable, with the MC and love interest being my favorites so far. - BironRonsoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I really enjoyed reading this story and it had a lot of really fun characters. I hope the author continues writing stories like this because I want to read more of them. Certainly awesome. The premise really spoke to me as a life long fan of science fiction and fantasy and I hope there is more to come.

This story covers a lot of familiar ground, but it holds it's own and more than justifies it's existence.
The style is solid and consistent, fairly straightforward but not boring. It's easy to read for a long time, as evidenced by the fact I read considerably farther than I needed to before writing this review.
The story is, as I said, familiar ground but it's familiar ground we all love and are always looking for more of, and this story earns it's place.
The characters. This is what kept me reading this story. This is an area I personally struggle with, so a story with a full ensemble cast that all manage to make you care about them and their relationships is a true gem. I paid a lot of attention to this story specifically for the characters, as an example of what I should do in my own story and dialog.
Making you care about the characters is job one when making me care about a story, and this is an excellent example of that.
Finally, the grammar. The grammar is probably the weakest aspect of this story, but that's not to say it's weak. It's just got a few clunky sentences and all that. And lets be honest, who among us? - L.E. FrenchRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style: I love the writing style and found the prose to be very well-worded. Omniscient POV can be hard to pull off, so I was surprised to find that there is a deeper POV here with quite a bit of voice. I think that's a unique quality this story has as omniscient can be distancing but it is not in this case. Hopefully, the omniscient POV remains consistent and does not slip into 3rd person or it will feel like head-hopping. So far, the POV is done nicely and I was impressed. I also loved the dialogue and found it to be believeable.
Story: We get to action quickly, but not without getting to know the characters. I was happy to see this balance. We even get a touch of life as normal before the catalyst. I love the story so far and feel like the group dymanic as well as premise brings a fresh feel to the book. I like the mechanics of the world as well, including their ability to query the system. This made the tutorial truly feel like a tutorial. The information given could be condensed, though. Most readers will know the basics of a level system coming in, so even though it's integretated into the story cleverly, it could be skipped. I recommend doing this through a brief summary that shows Calvin querying the system without having to get the full detail of what is said.
Grammar: The author edits all grammar mistakes. It's a clean read.
Character: The characters were my favorite, especially the fur baby. Their relationships are well-crafted and feel authentic. Immediately, I cared about Calvin, Amy, and Freya because of the great characterization. I was worried that Amy would not be taking enough action but she jumped right into the fight in chapter 4, so that put to rest those worries. It wouldn't hurt for her to be a bit more active in the first few chapters.
Overall: This is a greay read and I definitely recommend it! I look forward to reading more. - LAScottRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Disclaimer: this is part of a review swap.
It’s easy to see why this story made Rising Stars!
World-building is the author's strength, they’ve put a lot of effort into crafting an interesting and comprehensive world. The author gets right into it, but provides detail at a suitable pace that doesn’t overwhelm the reader as the characters navigate their new world.
The style makes for a very easy read. The author does a good job of showing rather than telling and this is apparent through the fight scenes which the author has already noted as having fixed up. I didn’t get a chance to see the previous versions but I believe the changes are working because I found them enjoyable to read! The stakes were sufficiently high and the rewards felt well-deserved.
I feel this is a true rebirth type of story because the backstories of the characters, their hopes and dreams for the world they left behind, are secondary to the development they experience in the new world they’ve been tossed into. There’s the odd time I would like a hint more dimension but it’s quickly replaced with the interest of where they’re going next. The main characters’ romance subplot doesn’t feel contrived. They’re friends first and equals; it’s refreshing to see.
There are no apparent grammatical issues, and it's apparent that the author puts a lot of care into their work.
Overall, this is an excellent story with great writing. Well worth a follow! - MonijayRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is one of the novels I skipped so many times, the first 5 chapters didn’t draw me in but DAMN it went crazy when they got there class. This novel is just awesome and also glad I skipped cause I now have a lot of chapters to read.
Nice work - Nick11179 (Nick Timm)Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0System Seed : Tutorial was an easy 5 star rate. It hits all the hallmarks I look for in a great story. Pacing. Character dev. Solid progression system. Natural interactions.
Style was the easiest 5 - The story flows very nicely and to avoid spoilers I'm going to be fairly vague... I don't want to give you too much of a hand - ahem ;)
Story is well paced and fun to read. I end each chapter looking for more. This is an easy daily reader for me. The language is easy to get through and there isn't much extraneous description floating around. The backdrop of the Tutorial dropping is cool and I can actually see that happening if aliens actually decided to come at us. Nannites are always a great addition. It's such a fun way to integrate magic into our real world without redoing all of our history.
Grammar - No glaring errors and the language flows well. I feel that we see a lot of bad grammar on RR, but System has no issues in thay realm.
Character - I like Calvin and crew. They're a bit of a motley crew, but in a good way. They are all getting the hang of the system fairly quickly and it seems natural. The setting of the story is bery cool - sci-fi blended with fantasy is always a bonus for me.
Keep at it! I'll be checking back regularly for updates.
Thanks for a rollicking good time!

Summery: Read it. It’s good. ‘Chefs kiss’
Yes, its a RPG like story, with the typical tropes you might either love or dislike. Yes, there are monsters that you might be familiar with, and the story line might be one you’ve read before. But… It’s done fantastic! Humor is woven throughout it all, and each take on the traditional bits that makes it a littrpg is unique and feels like a fresh experience.
The MC is a individual you can quickly relate to, and is wonderfully flawed in every way that makes it interesting. The only downside to him is that he’s got an even wonderful dog that steals the show for me, but that issue lies entirely with myself. The thing that drew me in the most was the emphasis on group survival and struggle. It’s refreshing to see things from different perspectives and the info dumping that we all are familiar with are instead told mostly through dialogue. The story really shines here. The only downside her was there were a lot of character at once in a few chapters, so you might need to be reminded who was who again. Still the lovely banter more than makes up for that part. I also enjoyed the fact that people behaved somewhat logical. There wasn’t an Chad Thundercock right of the bat that was 100% fine with killing monsters and that every woman was a helpless princess for him to rescue. Nope! You get a brutal struggle for survival where every man, woman and (perfect and amazing) dog needs to step up and kill or be killed.
Grammar was perfectly fine and the style of writing flowed nicely. If you actively peek under the hood you can find the occasional passive verb or grammatical error, but it’s nothing that an editor or a second read through wouldn’t find. Honestly, it wouldn’t surprise me if the author either has a penchant for writing or has written before.
So, read it already! - anguskhan907Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0While early in the story, a connection can be felt to what you’d expect a rom-com type novella. You can feel the woes of the stereotypical week to week life most lead, how it all builds up to the weekend and relief, and it never ends with the dread of Monday looming before the weekend even truly kicks off. The characters entice you to read on with their relatable day to day lives within the first few paragraphs.
Then, you’re shot out of a cannon into this wild scene you couldn’t hardly imagine even if you tried. Impossible to put down as now you’re gripped by a story and characters alike. Looking forward to plunging deeper into this very well written and charismatic story! - One Way JusticeRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5(This review is a part of a review swap)
Overall score: 4.5/5
Calvin is cool. His transition from run-of-the-mill officeman to Lupine Techlancer is exactly the kind of compelling 'self-insert' storyline most LitRPG fans look for. His relationship with Amy is interesting as well; his work 'bestie', and their get-togethers give him 'something real to look forward to' (I like prose like that, with strong psychological/philosophical implications). I wonder if they are verging on becoming more than just friends... time will tell, but I'm rooting for them.
Style score: 4.5/5. Good, albeit quite straightforward prose. The focus is on the action, and that is alright, although I personally prefer to see some literary frills and greater exploration of the psychological effects of being ripped away from the known world and implanted in some strange system-based realm... although it's technically still earth, but you know what I mean (but that's just my opinion).
Grammar score: 4.5/5. Generally good and high quality, with some occasional slight errors or typo's (happens to the best... and to me as well).
Story score: 4.5/5. The initiation of the system is well done and gripping. The progression elements are spread out rather than just being thrown at you in a big chunk - so props for that!
Character score: 5/5 I think this is where the story shines... the characters play well together. Calvin and Amy I've already discussed. Freya is a cute lil doggo and brings out Calvin's softer side (character development ++). Marshall can be funny at times, and the group dynamics just work.
In summary: a solid story that deserves more exposure than it is currently getting!
