Description
In the Esharian Capital city of Balrech, Tahir works as a glorified rat-catcher for the illustrious Redcloud guild, hoping to one day reach the heights of the mythical heroes, the reality-altering mages and mountain-splitting warriors that exist throughout the guild's history.
A studious orphan who grew up in a library, he unlocks both the mystical energy of mana, and the physically enhancing force of aura after a year of dedicated training while fighting for his life against lesser monsters and bandits, By doing so, he runs into problem: The energies conflict with each other, slowing the growth of either and potentially hindering him for years to come.
In what would normally be stroke of luck, a rare opportunity for a sponsorship arises right as he realizes what he's done. He has a month to reach the next rank of the guild to qualify, and with his stunted growth he has no chance of coming close without help.
In a last ditch effort to find a solution, he discovers the mysterious art of spirit magic and learns how to bind spirits. With limited time and no other options in sight, he chooses to dive into the world of spirits to change the hand of fate.

- bordenboRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Delightful story that delivers on all fronts. Easily top 1% quality of everything I read on this site. If you told me this was being written by a professional with multiple books under their belt, or a more well-known writer on this site, I would believe it.
Anyway, onto some category comments:
Style: satisfying progression fantasy hitting the mark for the "young adventurer getting their start with a group of friends" genre. perfect mix of action, dialogue, and introspection. (not a "blue boxes, stat block numbers go up" book, so if that is your mood temper your expectations)
Story: as of this review, I've only finished the first mini-arc so I am sure there is a lot more to come. so far the pacing has been super satsifying to me -- not so fast that the MC leaps to being OP, not so slow that I'm bored waiting for things to happen. even in the first arc, a few developments i did not see coming that make me excited to keep reading. worldbuilding is not its own category but if it was, easily 5 stars -- loving that the magic and culture are well thought out and serve the story.
grammar: if there is anything wrong, it is minor enough that my enjoyment has caused me to fly right past without noticing. and i can be a picky bastard, so that is saying something
character: this is where so many potentially fun stories end up fizzling, so i am pleased to report that this a strong suit here. main character is fully realized, has realistic emotions and reactions, and that multidimensionality carries through to everyone on screen so far. - TungilRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5I think it's decent.
The pacing is a bit too fast / erratic for my liking and there were some minor misspellings from time to time.
Characters aren't that fleshed out yet and some interactions seem a bit awkward. Could use a bit more background lore as we still don't really know much about the world at the point of this review.
Besides that it's a sold novel.
