- BarnyBoyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story isn't super original but it does several things that I like in stories well. It has an op mc that isn't an anti hero but doesn't put up with the crap that people give him. He's an actual leader and not just another xanxia master that only looks after himself. He is trying to bring the people close to him along to keep them safe and make them strong.
One thing that I really like is that once he conquers an invader's rift space he gets to keep it. I won't go into it too much so it won't be a spoiler, but the more spaces he controls, the more interesting things he can do with them. I don't know what all he can do with them yet, we are just getting to that point in the story, but the author seems to have a really good imagination and I'm looking forward to what happens next.
Sorry. I know that this isn't my best review but I just wanted to give some support to a good up and coming writer and recommend his tale to those of you that like a good fight against the apocalypse serial.
Edit: The story is only getting more intense. It's better than I'd thought at the beginning and I'd thought it was good then. - FiddlesoupRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is an interesting take on the For Want Of A Nail sub-genre of time travel stories. It's a time travel story with a system apocalypse overlay. The writing is thoughtfully constructed and has plenty of meat to it, too.
Character: One of the best parts of this story is there are many characters. Each has a fleshed-out back story and feels distinct dialogue-wise from the others.
The main character is interesting, and his storyline is cool. He's survived 66 time loops in which he has failed to save mankind, amassing all the knowledge he could ever need, yet it's not enough to save the world. So he sends massive power back in time to his younger self—except his younger self has no way to use it because it's broken.
There is a group with him, and each character, for the most part, comes from really broken situations which are just sad, and awful. It is well written, but can be hard to read. It explains, but doesn't excuse their atrocious behavior in earlier chapters.
Story: This is where the book flounders a bit. It's very much a slow burn after the initial burst of intrigue with the broken system. We spend almost 20 chapters dealing with him, assembling a group of friends, and fighting goblins. in between scenes of somehow normalcy despite the literal apocalypse. One complaint is a spoiler and is hidden in the spoiler below.
Its kind of jarring that they go back to school a day or two after the system apocalypse occurs. The world shut down because of covid, I'm sure it would have shut down because of this too. If you can get past this, everything else is really solid.
Style: Everything is well written, and the characters feel like living, breathing people, but I wish there were more descriptions. Like with the story, I have one complaint here that is also a spoiler.:
Not sure how to word this because it makes sense in context, and it is how teens would behave, but the main character gets a magical ability to control how other people feel. Being a horny teen, - Mac sidermanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This book is sadly finished by the time of my review, an amazing read (the ending is rushed/ feels a tad faster paced) but cleans up the arc tidy. Just leaves you wanting more but the author understandably wanted to finish the book instead of endless rambles. There are plans for shoot offs/ more to the book but as of now I recommend this as a read, make time for allowing binge sessions and see how humanity corrupts the system to conquer adversity.
- GrukthRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I want to start this by thanking the author for providing myself and you with a story that will be one we will remember as we continue to read and devour other works on this platform or others. Thank you and well done.
Each character that was created was done in a way that let them come to life in my imagination as I read the story. I often found myself lost in the book as if experiencing the events I was reading first hand, while the real world continued on around me. Often as I reached the end of a chapter and found there were no new ones for me to continue reading until the next release I would feel disappointed that I had to wait and excited knowing that there would be more.
These are the feelings that help a story stand out among a sea of possible stories to read. I am happy that I was able to find this hidden diamond which brought joy to my life to read. While this story has ended I feel sadness knowingone of my favoritestories has ended, but I am also excited to see what the author creates next.
Vandalin, I wish you the best in your future endeavors and I will await your next story with eager anticipation. Thank you again for providing us with a truly amazing story. Have fun, and be well.
Happiness is a mindset.
Grukth - HemophageRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The good.
Innovative idea on a traditional apocalypse themed system invasion. Author finished the story and had a satisfying ending point. Writing is good and editing is also good. Not perfect, but good.
The bad.
There is some bad and juvenile dialog that are consistent throughout, making it read like a young adults book at times. Also, the main character continually makes really really dumb decisions that he gets to plot armor his way out of. These moments were the most difficult to read and almost had me quiting the novel on more than one occasion. - Kizaru EtrusRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Soul Corruption features the popular theme of a world apocalypse via magic, a system, and invading races/monsters. What makes it unique however, is its focus on a Main Character that finds himself unable to use said system, as well as it's ragtag group of unlikely friends as they confront the threat to their home.
None of the main characters feel exceptionally cookie cutter, and a good deal of thought has gone into their backstories, personalities, and interactions. One detractor for the characters though is that I don't really know what any of them look like aside from one girl named Brittany. Perhaps I glossed over some small details, but generally the details surrounding the characters are almost entirely focused on their personality and connections while appearance seems to be forgotten.
The action is fun to read and the story doesn't shy away from some more mature undertones that arise from butchering dozens upon dozens of sapient invaders.
The harem aspects are kept rather light but still evident and amusing. It is not a gotta catch 'em all scenario, but it does feature high school protagonists at the end of the day. The girls like to flirt and tease but generally the romance progression is fairly natural and pleasant.
Overall, Soul Corruption is a fun read that has a lot of potential. I personally can't wait to see where the story goes, how strong our characters get, and how many relationship antics Adam can get into. - Boredking98Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5The story is simple enough. Adam regressed a bunch before essentially breaking the system so his younger self could break the loop.
Adam is a berserker in the classic sense, he gets mad and gets stronger. He's pretty mature for his age but still acts like a teenager around girls and his family.
There is a harem situation going on but it's more along the lines of a typical harem anime but without the cringe and cockblock. I do wish Adam was a bit more proactive but he's focused on the end of the world and is active enough.
Tldr: This is a power fantasy with an op mc and has a harem. Literally the opposite of what most stories are promoting nowadays. It's nice and fun to read. - LestiRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I really quite enjoyed this so far. Some sillyness to lighten the mood was interrupting much either.
Grammer is good.
The MC has a pretty decent set of abilities that I look forward to seeing evolve.
Side characters are interesting enough to want to hear from rather than feeling it interrupts the flow.
The exp numbers seem a bit off, but can be explained away by the shared exp the group is attempting.
Best of all the MC is not a cry baby the plot armor needs to force to do his job :D - meekRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5This was a fun spin on a system apocalypse/regression story, with solid writing and fun characters to root for. What holds this story back for me is the pacing. The story hit the power-scaling point of no return where I stopped feeling the tension that kept me hooked in the earlier parts of the story too soon and started feeling like a race towards the end (which is honestly a common issue with litrpg/progression fantasy stories across the board).
Overall though, it was a good read and I'm looking forward to the next story from this author. - wildrose40Royal Road★★★★ 3.5I loved the book, some of the fight scenes dragged a bit and you lost track of some characters completely like Emily and one of his wives desperately wanted kids. Next time more emphasis on fleshing out the characters and less on giant long fights. I’d like to see more on nick and the others you kind of lost their plots ect also what happened with his children I think you missed an opportunity only putting them in for a second
