Shadow of Moon - A Wolf-Witch Tale (Book 1)

Description
Diane Winters is a practical girl. She loves her maths and she loves her sketching. She is as far from fantasy as her intellectual brain would allow her. Add in her weak heart to the equation and Diane is done.
Olivia, Diane's twin, is the opposite. She is a dreamer, and Diane has a hard time reining her in. When their grandmother dies all of a sudden, the two are left alone to face the hardships. Troubles mount when they are informed all the money is gone and their grandmother has left them to the mercy of a stranger living in some desolate part of the world.
Reaching him is hard, but it's nothing compared to what awaits them there. Only time could tell if Diane's weak heart could survive the shock.
*****
What to expect -
1. Slow burn urban fantasy with a fair share of mystery. Fantasy elements and characters will be revealed gradually as the mystery unfolds.
2. No immediate villains. They will show themselves up in time.
3. Romance - I don't force it, but neither do I shy away from it. It will be there where it's needed.
4. Update schedule is not fixed. Maybe 2-3 chapters per week as my work permits.

- KBieRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A classic supernatural romance story.
This story grabbed my attention within the first chapter.
Single POV throughout of the outside trope thrust in to a world of super natural beings and having to adapt along with perfect sibling.
It's a slow burn with delightful twists here and there.
Prepare for tears in the last chapter. - rebelliousfantasyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I absolutely loved this book - it is so different and refreshing from every other werewolf story I have read and actually has a great plot compared to many others. The main character is smart, funny and is enjoyable to read about which makes following the story easy, and the plot twists are on the next level (SERIOUSLY, I can't believe I didn't see the last one coming!) I really loved this book and can't wait to find out what happens next!
- Carpet RiderRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Nice novel, amazing idea, but very slow paced.
It feels very fresh and full of mystery, one that i didn't ask for but enjoyed a lot.
The slow pace is very much understandable, keep the fun feel a lot more amazing.
Keep up the good work author! I love this one. - SaiphRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Review Swap
This story opens well, giving a nice introduction the the main characters, and soon jumps into a compelling mystery. The descriptions are poetic without being heavy handed. There are occasional places where the tone feels a little out of place possibly because of the dialogue or character reactions but it’s only some places. Possibly it’s just because we only have a limited perspective and some interactions may be more understandable later. There’s a subtle and natural comedy that surfaces throughout the story rounds out the tone quite nicely. It definitely made me laugh a couple of times. The first chapter is the best one and sets the scene well so if you want to know if you will like this then just start at the beginning.
Style
The descriptive scenes and subtle sense of humour is where this story shines. The way the author describes the scenes feels very natural and flows and weaves in with the storytelling. It never feels out of place or info dumped or anything. It gives the story a good vibe and creates lovely imagery of the setting.
Story
There’s intrigue and mystery and I want to know what happens next. Something happens in each chapter and scene which moves the story along. Even the lovely descriptions all feel like they serve a purpose to the story.
Grammar
There are few grammar mistakes and missing words but nothing that disrupts the flow of reading.
Character
Dialogue is probably the weakest component of this story. While it’s not bad and some parts read perfectly fine there are sections where characters say things that don’t quite feel like they fit with what a normal person would say in the context of the scene. It’s only a few places though.
The main characters and the ones introduced in the first few chapters are all unique and stand out as individuals. They are perhaps a little hard to get to like and could use a little more rounding out but this may still be to come. Some of the newer characters blend a bit together but I think that is ju - The Jester in RedRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Shadow of the Moon - A Wolf-Witch Tale is a compelling urban fantasy mixed with an intriguing mystery and steamy romance. Our protagonists, Diana Winters, and her twin sister, Olivia, are thrust out of the lap of luxury following her grandmother's death and left with only a letter explaining how she must now go to Silver Forest, Maine, in order to meet with the one their grandmother named their guardian. Not all is as it seems and as the girls and their caretaker, Mrs. Bates embark on their journey they are met pitfalls and confusion as they encounter some paramilitary looking men.
Overall : I found the story to be enjoyable. Every chapter was ending in a way that pushed the reader to want more. The mystery and intriguing surrounding their grandmother, Mrs. Bates, and the first encounter with the group of men gives just enough to keep things interesting without feeling overwhelming.
Style: This story is told in first person present tense, which was a little hard to read at first, but after the first few chapters it no longer stood out. The perspective really lets the reader step into Diana's shoes and feel things as she does. As there will be sexual content, for those looking to have a night of lip biting and playfully wandering hands, this may be just what you are looking for.
Story: the story is fairly simple so far, though the mystery surrounding their caretaker keeps things interesting and the reader wanting more. I was really interested in seeing who their caretaker would be and why their grandmother left them that note.
Grammar: A few punctuation issues around dialog, but as it wasn't consistent it seems to be just little proofreading errors we all suffer from. Nothing distracting.
Character: because the first person POV, we get most of our characterization through dialogue or the internal thoughts of our protagonists. Diana and Olivia play opposites as do two of the men who meet in chapter 3. While I did like what we got from Diana through her internal though - WilliamGabriel10Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5This story is quite good, prominently dealing with nature and wolves. The non-human protagonists are well-written, and the plot is well-constructed and moves at a good pace. Much of the plot seems to deal with how the protagonist and company are fitting into a world dominated by humans.
It gives a real feel of the wild in stylistic tones. Some of the prose out there is very evocative and really puts things together. You never run into walls of text or feel like the plot is completely off the rails. My favorite bit is a place detailing a forest under the moonlight. Reading it I felt like I was really there.
From what I've seen, the grammar is quite good. I am no expert, but I didn't notice any serious typos or mess-ups. The paragraphs are well-spaced, and overall, things are put together.
The story moves along at a fast enough pace and quickly establishes the stakes and plot. It does get a bit hard to follow at a few points, and at several stages, I felt character decisions were a little weird. But overall, it works. The major flaw I can think of would be that things are a little unfocused even five chapters in. There doesn't seem to be a clear villain or driving goal which keeps the protagonist motivated.
All of the characters are set up quickly and efficiently with good character descriptions and in a believable manner. The author clearly has a good idea of their place in the world and their relationships. Nothing I read was contredictory or silly and it all fits together. All of them have distinctive voices, though I admit many of them are introduced at once. Sometimes the number of names becomes a little hard to keep straight, but they are destinctive.
Overall, it's well worth checking out.
