Description
Devon, a college student and local chess prodigy, is pulled into a string of unnatural disappearances the world has called the takings.Deemed a cursed being by the guiding system, he'll have to learn to fight and surviveif he hopes to survive its tutorial.
However, Devon discovers that the overseers of the tutorial, meant to guide himself and his fellow initiates, actually mean to farm them for experience once their grace period expires. With the system crippling Devon's ability to gain power fast enough to stop the impending slaughter he'll have to rely on a profession the system itself seems to have forgotten exists to grow stronger.
He'll do anything to overcome the threat of the overseers and make it beyond the farce the system calls a tutorial, even if it means he has to manipulate everyone around him into creating a maelstrom of conflicting interests, motivations, and ideologies.
"...And upon that stage, that thin line that seperates life and death... I shall dance."
What to expect:
- Weak to strong story.
- MC who develops into an anti-hero.
- Mix of battle-related progression and scheme-related progression. (About an 80/20 split between action and scheming. This is a progression fantasy, after all.)
- No romance.
Irregular chapter updates.

- The Duke_2Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0First review, i apologise for eventual unprofessional review.
Let's start by the obvious. The grammar is good, i haven't noticed mistakes. The characters are plausibles, which is the first thing i'm looking for in a story. For me, it's a hit-or-miss. If, at some point, i'm starting to think :"Wait, that's completely stupid !", it's almost certainly a drop. So, good characters, nice. We had some really good chapters, like
The memory of the Cursed King.
The chapter i'm reading, the 41st, is where the story finally shine.
The first few chapters exposed the new world, then we got to learn the stakes, then the MC, and now, we see the path Devon will take. And, it got my blood boilin' ! So here it is ! My totally subjective view of this great (so far) novel ! I might come back when the story is over. 'Till then, go give it a try !
PS : I love to hate Eve, we all do. - Worst-answerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Novel with a high potential, Seems well written (maybe the author is a native) . mc seems competent and interesting i'm pretty curios about his development .
aside from that i can't say much more for the few chapters. and i need to see the development in the long run to have a better idea - dragonbeastRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's really great so far,im liking the characters so far except the girl Elle? But besides that it's really good and I'm hoping for a lot more cchapters now I spam for the minimum requirement yay[is a great way for me up at the next level of service] for
- AtaxiaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0There's much to love about this novel. Characters seem realistic and natural, the mc definitely gives off death note and code geas vibes(cold, calculating, etc), and the pacing actually makes sense. No crazy time skips or inexplicable power ups.
No blatant grammar issues.
Gains are earned. MC has no qualms to exploit his peers for the greater good.
I'm sure it'll only get better as it goes on and the setting/scope broadens.
Mega hate for Eve. - Bercans2Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0It takes a small bit of time to get to the scheming, but this book is extremely good! The world and characters are interesting and fleshed out, with an interesting lead that feels pleasant to read about, as well as many other intriguing characters with their own thoughts and motivations. I am very excited to see where the story will go from here.
- Face of the KingRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0fast review:
1. smart MC 2.not suicidal 3. no min maxing 4.hidden mechanism that we find as we progress 5. not all powerful, a fight against fate and bad luck 6.varied side characters with back bones (but small number of them)
main review/ranting:
this is a great story i like where it is going the progression of the story and and world events and also the back story and the future books of the series seem well adjusted (i don't know the full story that is why i say seem) the only issue i find is that there is a sharp increase in power at one point in the story that is too jarring but considering that the MC goes from fighting big league monsters to normal monsters and events may be it is not unjustified.
the grammar and writing are fine and i did not have any issue reading this.
the characters are colorful and alive but perhaps not lively and i like the fact that the side characters seem to have opinions for themselves and are not just MC tag along. though i feel like some interactions are a bit forced like the author had seen or imagined a certain interaction in mind and just it had to happen in the story i am not sure about this. now time to criticize : 1. low number of side characters that matter. i mean this just feels like a few people have gathered together and gone camping or something . in latter chapters this is rectified but early chapters are annoying but well considering the circumstances and story progression it is not bad per say but may be getting to now some random people out there might help? 2.a bit of a flat characters and the dialogues i don't like the dialogues with different characters may be the red head beauty and MC talk was ok but other speech and talk scenes were frankly artificial feel to them they need more thought. e.g. the last scene the epic dramatic thinking speech of the MC comes out and the friend and the enemy both start talking epically it is annoying and speech patterns don't jump around . it is like suddenly getting an Italian - FangYuan1234Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Solid Lit-rpg with a twist. The premise is good and well executed. I like the analytical point of view of the main character and the few characters that were introduced so far seemed to be more than npc's that will be forgotten shortly, and the author knows the value of changing point of views.
The style is good enough to get the point across, which is honestly enough for a hack and slash. It actually turns more introspective from time to time when actual plotting is taking place.
The Story so far reminds me a lot of Primal Hunter but with a main character that is hated by the system instead of loved. I won't spoil too much but there are some eldritch things going on in the background.
The grammar is also perfect as far as I could see.
All in all, I think this is a book worth reading, or at least trying it out. Don't let the MC's apparent weak start throw you off, because it's quickly turning into a boon instead of a curse, heh.
Don't really like the so called Overseers though, which is most likely intentional by the author, but these guys are really incompetent. Mentally, I am already treating them as road bumps for the MC despite their high power levels.
A solid 4.5/5 overall but it deserves a spot amongst the Rising Stars so a perfect 5 from me.

Update - Chapter 50
This fic is really taking off, living up to its name through scheming. The plot is thick as hell and the characters become more and more fleshed out, even the Overseers which surprised me a little.
Everything is going up, including those Karmic disdain marks. Gotta hate them all. - Pace77Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love that the side characters in this story feel more real than some one-dimensional picture as is often seen in these kinds of stories. They all have their own thoughts and goals instead of being nothing but a bag of xp for the mc to claim. As for the system, I am really interested in the potential behind writing the mc with a "forgotten" class
which seems to interact with the system directly. Additionally, those error codes hint at some interesting plots and rules occurring behind the scenes. - Being ReaderRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Good start. Really enjoying the read. Great potential. I am rooting for your success. Take your time and develop this story please. Let your imagination wild and don't take any shortcuts. Cook a damn well story as 5 star Michelin chef. This draft is really worth pitching. I'll be waiting for your future endeavours. Peace 🙏
