Description
As theperfect sacrifice, it is only natural that Nix be sacrificed to the ancient gods lurking in the depths of the black hole. But she didn’t die. Finding herself seven years in the past — to the day of her first cursed mutation — Nix is determined to correct her regrets, enact vengeance on her murderers, and simply live the life that she never got to. But even with this second chance, freedom from the cults remains a pipe dream. To achieve everything she never could in her previous life, there is only one path before her. Nix will twist the curses that once bound her into the very source of her strength. The cults will regret sacrificing her… without ever knowing they already succeeded. What to expect:- A regressor revenge story with a heavy focus on character.- Eldritch monsters, gods, and cults.- Body horror. Mutations. Mouths in tongues, mould instead of hair, bonus limbs; that sort of thing- Progression.- LitRPG-lite system focused on the power of names. [Cover art by Misty/@lil_mistake]

- MixuniteRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Well. Ok. This was a ride. This review is as UNBIASED as possible tho I've followed the story for a while and participated in the art contest(recommend checking that chap in book 3 if you are reading this).
Character:
First and most important, do not expect a typical revenge fantasy protag where they rave on and on about how unfair everything is, and how mad they are. The characters are distinct enough from each other. They are well written. One minor complaint: character development seems exclusive to the mc at this point(though that is changing with
Lysyra and possibly Tarchon
) Expect more the colorful characters further into the story. Also, with great regret I must state that there is no yuri or romance. Though with how the worldbuilding is set it makes sense, which is my segue(yes thats how you write it) into the next section.
The mc: I mentioned how development is mostly centered on her, well it do be good. She starts off naive, socially inept, and somewhat depressed?(like anger is the only fuel driving her--actually that still mostly true though changing in book 3).
Well she learns, finds things to enjoy(mutations), gets over her body issues and accepts what is at the bottom of her soul(mutations), finds people she can show the mutations to. Yep they are a core part of the story.
Expect a cool space station and interesting magic system where you earn and combine names. Really nicely done occult vibes as others have said. It's not the next LOTM of Lovecraft, but it is a cool eldritch horror hiding from cults on a space station above a black hole under an eye of stars. Oh yeah, There are 6 major cults, all are very distinct, which is cool, no forgetting who is who. (Can we get some more exposure on the smaller factions like the Omen Artisans Joro? Pls? Some cool lore for a poor man?)
Story
Expect really solid moment to moment action and chapter to chapter carryover. It is not the type of narrative which has a slow build up into a massive larger picture. The l - AloofscarabRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall: I enjoy the plot, the character interactions and the world building. The MC has her flaws, but also her strengths so she makes for a more relatable character than some. The world is pretty unique as well, with a lot of potential expansion to be done in further books.Style: Well written and pretty well paced, it starts off with a bang and then dips in pace for a bit before taking off. The writing is solid, and I enjoy the way the author weaves together multiple different plot threads that all come together nicely. There's a lot going on that our MC is only getting snippets of, and so you know there's a deeper game(or more) afoot, but not how much yet.Story: I love a good revenge arc and Regressor stories, so this is great. The whole Eldritch gods thing and how they are interacting via the black hole is just super cool. And while I've read some stories that are all revenge focused, this one has definitely felt both well deserved, and also nicely balanced. The MC is very powerful within her "band" of strength, but can't hope to overcome the most powerful so shes working to get there in what feels like a mostly reasonable manner. So I can appreciate both the relative strength and weakness, and how that plays out.Character: The MC is both smart, and clever enough to be enjoyable to read, with a touch of the battle maniac. She's also got some common sense and a well developed self preservation built in, so that's nice to see! There are also definite consequences for her actions, and she seems to be learning and developing from them which I appreciate.Grammar: Pretty solid here, I've noticed a fair amount of typos etc, but nothing unusual for a posting here. If the book gets printed I'd imagine a good editor will fix most of those. But overall really decent.
- MDWRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Sneaky Cuttlefish beat me to it. Yeah. This story pulls no punches when it comes to slapping the reader on the face with the grimdark reality of the story universe (space station? Moon?).
It had me on the edge of my seat. The tension, the atmosphere, the subtle brutality. Nix, the protagonist, is not going to have an easy time and the author puts you there, by her side. The tension and the pace are superb.
I was hooked from chapter 1. - Marquess of UpplandRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0For the record, I'm biased. I've been reading this story since not long after it started and even participated in the art competition. I love the setting, I love the plot, and I love the creativity involved in its world building.Re:Cursed is about a former sacrifice hell-bent on murdering nearly every person she's ever known and is entirely unapologetic about it. We get her motivation right there in the prologue and aside from making a few aquantinces on her quest, her motives never change. The setting (and second half of her character) fit the narrative to a tea. The occult end-of-the-world vibes are done beautifully. The world as the inhabitants know it is beyond fucked, to the point where they don't even know what they've lost. Lore is given naturally without chunks of random exposition and does a swell job of making the world feel lived in.My personally favorite part of the story is Nix's inhuman growth. The prologue gives a taste of what's to come, but her slow drift away from humany has me giddy. She's well aware that she isn't normal, and her internal reflections about her nature is great.Lastly, plot. There's a lot of tropes that Joro could've pulled from to drag the story forward, but instead Nix is the active party. It's her revenge, and she never stops being the one responsible in furthering her own goals. That is likely the story's biggest strength, though it can be hard to notice with all the other crazy things going on.I'm not sure how to end reviews. Go read it. It's good.
- Dead NettleRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is quite the unique dark tale based on a isolated land ruled by cults. The setting touches into the dark story telling genre without getting sinking to the bottom. It has kept away from some of the usual topics that get covered in dark world building that have begun to feel repetitive and cliché. The world is a well balanced mix between character development and world building, slowly adding in major side characters only after fleshing out the last one. While the story can feel slow it has managed throw that feeling off by creating smaller objectives while establishing a larger main objective for the main character to work towards through their actions. On top of this the author has mostly managed to create situations and events around the main character in such a way that it allows for the reader to understand their decision making process most of the time. Finally the biggest success of this story is that the author is active with the readers. They will often give updates on how the story is progressing, and small little comments at the beginning and end of chapters, as well as have a trustworthy upload schedule. I would recommend giving this story a try, even if the gene isn't quite your thing usually you may find yourself surprised.
- EriBioforgerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A story about a cursed girl who gets another chance at life and turns her curses into her strength. If you like weird mutations and some body horror elements, this is the story for you!
The story features an interesting name-based power system, with a few different major "Schools of magic" based around each faction, with the corruption mechanic underlaying much of the setting. The main character is not passive and takes actions into her own hands even at the detriment of her own goals due to her shortsightedness.
The side characters are the weak point in my opinion as they exist mostly as endless hordes of evil goons for the main character to kill, with no apparent goals of their own aside from sacrificing people, though we have yet to get more antagonist POVs showing some of their motivations, and I am confident there is still time for us to understand them better.
The worldbuilding is interesting enough to keep you guessing at what else may be present in the world, and helps build the eldritch vibe the author is going for.
Grammar so far is perfectly fine, aside from the occasional typo that does not detract from the story. - Foxbat40Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Nyx seems to have been dealt all the bad cards. Her curses mark her as being beloved by the gods as part of her is made in their image.
This of course marks her as the perfect sacrifice for every cult and weirdo that populates the post apocalyptic space station she lives on.
A space station that floats just above a black hole that contains the very dark gods they worship. Our story starts with Nyx falling into said black hole as a sacrifice to those gods. A set of gods that seem rather unhappy with this outcome.
The story continues when Nyx does not die. Instead she gets to try her life again waking up on her name day. Instead of being 23 she is 15 again and is about to find out if her name is still cursed.
This story picks up with intrigue, betrayal and some quiet moments of friendship. The plot is both stirring and surprising. If you are a fan of body horror, a good revenge story and a protagonist who tries to improve herself.
Then this is the story for you. - ArkyteRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is pretty high quality if we consider Royalroad standards. If you are not put off by the eldritch theme, you should read it. It is entertaining even if you never read this type of story (like me). The mix of revenge, mutations, eldritch, and power progression feels unique compared to many other works. The world is fun and interesting, and it’s easy to get drawn into how people act and how events unfold.

Style ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The writing is clear and smooth. It avoids the usual “all-knowing, reborn hero” approach and instead builds her slowly. So if you are expecting a protagonist that follows a scheduled plan, this is not it. The tone fits the story well, though sometimes the author drags on certain part descriptions a bit too much (but this is my personal taste).
---
Story ⭐⭐⭐⭐
At its heart, this is a revenge and power progression story with eldritch elements. It works well and keeps attention. We watch her grow from a little girl full of hatred into a bigger, stronger, more compassionate girl with less hatred lol.
However, some choices weaken the impact of the story. The enemies are said to be evil, but the main character doesn’t interact with them much. We know they are evil through her past experiences, but most cultists she interacts with give off a very normal person attitude. Because of this, the reader doesn’t feel the same hatred or satisfaction when she takes revenge.
---
Characters ⭐⭐⭐
The main character being a loner makes sense for her personality, but it also makes the story less lively since she has to carry it almost entirely on her own. She makes some friends, which feels good as character development. Their personalities also have a lot of potential. But they don’t get enough time to shine.
We are then left with a single character that has to carry the story through descriptions and introspection.
The one pet that added more balance and a bit of dialogue to the story was killed off, which makes the cast feel even smaller.

Grammar ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Gra - Hopeful DaydreamsRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is great, a wonderfully otherworldly story that has a rich world slowly being revealed. The time travel is sold well, and the power system makes sense. The name-based growth system is compelling and interesting, and the main characters advantages suit the story and the character well.
The style is a space-based eldritch horror, with the horror taking a backseat to other elements. The corruption, mutation, and monsters that are the staples of the eldritch are here, but the author has put their own twist on them to suit the story. Full marks.
I have not noticed any grammatical errors. Also full marks.
In terms of the story, even from the beginning there are marks of deeper mysteries, as suits the eldritch style. The main character goes back in time, striving for revenge, but there are deeper elements at play. Hidden knowledge, uncovering active manipulations, and discovering more about the world all play well together. There are hints of some time-based shenanigans that are purely based in physics, even as there are other elements that are purely magic. Full marks.
In terms of the characters, the MC is the main one we follow. That said, all of the side characters have their own stories to tell. As of yet, few characters have all that much development, but much of this makes sense in story - the main character is a manipulated child who has major trust issues for good reasons. There are hints at future development, and hints that some of the side characters may play a greater role later on. Full marks. - NocturnhabeoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I like it despite the occasional missed word or misspelling. Lovecraftian protag and more horrors for them to fight. Powerful MC and a delightfully flexible magic system. The story has lots to grow with. Teen female mc risks a lot but this never strays into sexual territory which is unfortunately common. I like it.
