(OLD VERSION)The Aureate Shards (A LitRPG/Progression Fantasy)
Community Rating
Description
The Aureate System is unraveling. As the Second, only Alex has the power to restore it. Or destroy it all.
In the Continent, it is a time of change. The Aureate System is weakening. Dungeons are cracking open. Monsters roam the land. The status quo of the past hundreds of years that saw the rise of the League of Free Republics is set to burst as hidden forces make their move.
Alex doesn't know where he fits into all of this, but he needs to figure out fast.
Taken into this new world, he meets a Chaser crew and quickly becomes embroiled in a desperate fight for survival. He will face a siege and famine, dungeons and assassination, triumph and betrayal. And that’s just the first book.
Oh, and he's some kind of chosen one, apparently. But by the sound of it, that doesn't make him the hero of the story.
On the advice of some of my readers, and to appease the algorithm gods, I will be posting this story from now on in a new fiction. There, you will find all the new chapters in the new schedule: Tue-Wed-Fri-Sat. Please give it a follow there. Hope you enjoy it!

- Gh0stDragonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story is pretty good and there is great character development to be had. Honestly the story has great potential overall and is probably one of the best beginning of stories I have read and it really pulls you in. There are some little discrepancies during the story (characters stop fighting to discuss their plan and the monsters just stop doing anything, for example) but if you can get past those, the story is really awesome and I wholly recommend you check it out!
- KaelasRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5Prologue is annoyingly vague/unexplained but it's short and the actual story start is both fast paced and interesting so I got over it right away. MC is a good blend of reasonably normal for someone of our world and competent enough at adapting to the new world that it's not frustrating to watch him fumble around. Liking his 'hero powers' and how the System works, including the fun of the MC trying carefully to figure out how the world works without making it clear he's weird AF.
- TONY PLAYZRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5ok first off its good but i cant read it due to just not liking him as a character and some of his choices not that's its bad, just that for some reason it bothers me to an insane degree.
minor spoiler below
the only things I actually dont like is that he uses fire magic only because I'm bored of every mc using fire magic, and its just predictable and I personally belive fire lacks the depth that other "basic" magic might have, I mean it's either a pyromaniacs destructive wet dream, rejuvinateing like a phoenix rising from ashes, or HOLY SHIT IT BURNS! EVERYTHINGS ON FIRE HELP!!!!.
also ngl he sound like a prideful ass half way through choosing a class... (might just be me)
so although I may have a vendetta against it currently. knowing how badly a low review can really mess up some books , the fact that I might just be having an anxiety attack currently, and how good literally everything elts is I'm giving a high rating and following so I can come back and read it later when I've calmed down and no longer wish to throw something through a window. - SrodekRoyal Road★★★ 3.0I started reading this story under the influence of positive reviews praising the intelligence and realism of the main character's decisions, and I regret to say that I am disappointed.
Don't get me wrong, it's an easy and enjoyable lecture for an undemanding reader, but nothing above that. One of many similar stories without a hint of realism.
The main character behaves like a commando for whom fighting is daily bread, not a normal civilian. People he meets treat him like a familiar neighbor without any suspicions (because in all medieval fantasy worlds 21th century clothes are the norm)
When he meets people and traces of civilization for the first time (after the first fight, when he almost dies), he does not even think about reaching a safe place, he immediately goes with unknown people to hunt the monsters that almost killed him before.
