- R. H. RavokkRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have to say, this isn't the genre I typically reach for, as I'm usually much more into hard sci-fi. Despite that, this prologue grabbed my attention immediately. It wastes no time, masterfully shifting the tone from a moment of survivalist triumph to one of supernatural dread. The pacing is excellent, building tension with each sentence.
You've created a genuinely creepy antagonist, and the unexpected detail of a marble floor is a brilliant touch that raises intriguing questions about the world.
The foundation here is incredibly strong. To make this chilling scene even more immersive, consider leaning more into the character's physical reactions to the fear rather than naming the emotion directly.
Layering in more sensory details—the coppery smell of the hunt, the unnatural cold of the creature, the specific feeling of the marble underfoot—would pull the reader in even deeper and make the experience more visceral.
Ultimately, this prologue does exactly what it needs to do. You've managed to hook a reader from outside your target genre, and you've established high stakes that make me genuinely eager to read the next chapter.
Well done, and I'm looking forward to more. - Sololetter1Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5First off, I really like the atmosphere you’re building. The creepy, tense vibe of dark corridors, injured monsters, and the protagonist’s fear is solid and keeps the reader hooked. You’ve got a good eye for details — the wounds, the creature’s mutations, the environment — and that really helps us picture everything vividly. It’s got that gritty, survival horror feel that’s pretty engaging.
The pacing is nice too. It’s a slow build-up, full of suspense, and then it kicks into high gear with the chase scenes. I can tell you’re good at creating tension, and the scenes where Seven is trying to hide or escape are intense. The way you describe his thoughts and reactions makes him feel real, like someone who’s genuinely scared but trying to stay calm enough to survive.
That said,i think you could deepen the characters a bit more. While Seven’s fear comes through well, I’d love to see more about *why* he’s there, what his motivations are, or maybe a quick glimpse of his relationship with Leon or his family. It would give us even more reason to root for him and care about what happens.
The lore about the monsters—that they’re blind, their weaknesses, their mutations—is super interesting. It hints at a bigger world, which is great. Just be careful with consistency —
Overall, you’ve got a solid foundation here—great atmosphere, tense scenes, intriguing monsters. With a little polishing on the structure and character depth, this could be really awesome.
