The style is very evocative of an action story. The curses are cool, and weird. I didn't expect the one bad guy to be able to split into copies. The series seems like it will be a long one, and I'm here for it all the way. - BenfykeRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's great, AND it's updated often and regularly???
It has cool magic powers, fleshed out characters, good worldbuilding, and solid pacing. I binged that mf'er until I ran out.
I won't be the first (or last) to notice the similarities with One Piece (the islands, the military, and the powers). But is that a bad thing? Is it bad that this has similarities to one of the greatest stories in the modern world?
Nightsea Outlaw bangs. Support the author and buy their books (they are quite affordable). Idk what else to write, it good

Just completed 11 chapters which is about half of book 1. The 2nd book is has already started on patron, So the author is committed to completing this novel.
So far the story has our MC waking up on an island after accident where some people decided to mess with him and he is going after them for convenience and a little bit of revenge. (Yes it’s not JackReacher’s plot the similarities end here) Though mainly he is going after them to achieve his goal.
The style is good, Its not the best but doesn’t have any issues. A bit of mystery might confuse you at the start but everything clears up as you keep reading.
Story is great so far. Love the dark vibes and antihero theme. The word building also seems to be deep and well thought out.
Grammar isn’t my best suit as you can see from this review, But I haven’t found any glaring problems or any interruptions in the flow of sentences.
Character As I mentioned just a few characters introduced so far, Cant say much about them. MC’s character seems well developed. He acts like a normal adult male, and not a murder hobo. He is aware of the things he has done and their consequences and doesn’t make excuses about them.
So far loved the novel, Definitely give it a try. - SiletRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I don’t know where to start… I guess I was expecting a SCP type of world? I was super pleasantly surprised when I finished the first arc.
Every character in this book is unique in their own way and they each have their own motivation for doing everything they do in this world. This is not very common in the state of today’s books.
We get the basics of the world and aren’t introduced to everything right off the bad with info-dumps which is good because we learn alongside the mc.
This is a hidden gem(and I mean hidden in a way that I wish I had found it sooner) - danger tamerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story is a treat for the eyes.
the powers are well explained and are often used smartly.
The characters are feel so real, sometimes it feels like I can tell who's talking just by reading the lines without even reading the rest of it, everyone is unique have their own thoughts and their own beliefs. Sayed having his believe in One True God and likes to create stories to tell others. Alex is the first, he is looking for a way back and will go through many island destructions for it.
While this story could easily become depressing, The story does not get grim and depressing, there is time for levity and jolly co-operation!
There are more companions that eventually meet Alex for their own reasons and feel as much alive as Alex! - FiddlesoupRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've known Lazie for a while through discord, and he is such a fascinating writer to read. You can tell he puts a lot of care into the world he is writing because of how well-fleshed out the characters and their motivations are. Every detail is connected to another. The character interactions feel real. The world is terrifying and dark.
Story: Our hero, Alex, has been isekaied to a wild west feeling world with trains and outlaws. He encounters monsters in the mist outside the other POV character's house, Samantha, and discovers that an outlaw he has clashed with has taken over her town, and might have the key to him finding his way back home.
Characters: Samantha is impoverished and down on her luck but hasn't given up. Alex is the titular Nightsea Outlaw. They immediately mesh well together, and it is so fun to read them.
Style: This is where this story shines. It exudes style out the wazoo. The pace is quick the action unique and fun, and the dialogue is realistic.
Grammar: No teacher worth their salt is going to publish something without the bare minimum of grammar checks, and Lazie denied his name in this instance. His story is solidly grammatically correct. - InyssaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I was sort of expecting a western-flavored fantasy story when I went into this, but what I wasn't expecting was a very competent and engaging western-flavored fantasy. A very pleasant surprise.
First off, the comparisons to Mistborn are expected, the setting and especially Alex' powers draw some similarities, but in truth it's very different from that novel. It almost feels like a Mistborn-inspired western mixed with the general arc structure of your usual One Piece, if that makes sense. Protagonist arrives into a new place, makes friends, learns what's wrong and slowly works to unravel the antagonists' plan. As a narrative structure, it's executed very well, and it does everything it needs to.
The style and the grammar are both very competent and tight, I've yet to find any prose or word choices that took me out of the story. It's perfect for this type of book, not really getting in the way, more just letting the characters, the action and the setting speak for themselves.
Speaking of the fights, they are one of the highlights for sure. Neither too long nor too short, just spicy and punchy enough to paint an exciting picture in your head. Alex' powers are very well explained every time they're used.
As for the characters, I found them to work well too. Alex does strike me as a bit too cool for my own personal protagonist taste, but I am very invested in his past and his growth regardless. Sam has been my favorite, her place in the story and the way it treated her felt realistic without being overtly grimdark. As for the antagonists, I found them both to have just enough depth for how awful they were as people. Goldfist especially, I found a bit cartoonish at first, but like with all good stories, once we got a deeper look into his worldview his actions became clearer, if still somewhat comical because of how absurd evil people tend to be both in fiction and in the real world. That's not a slight against the story, just how I see it.
Also how could I NOT love a prot - Leahcim ZanathaxRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Nightsea Outlaw is pretty freaking fantastic! In a lot of ways, the world setting reminds me a good bit of One Piece. Luckily, the MC is both less annoying and smarter than Luffy is (Thank God! I adore lots of things about One Piece, but the MC is NOT one of them!), as well as being a decently interesting character all on his own.
This story is technically isekai, but it doesn't follow many of the tropes typified by most of what is popularly referred to as isekai.
So far, it avoids a lot of the tropes that I dislike about isekai. The MC is powerful, even really powerful in some situations, but is not loaded down with cheats and wild OPness. The superpowers in this world feel a lot like Devil Fruit powers from One Piece, in that they can do a specific thing and its up to the wielder of those powers to figure out cool ways to take advantage of that thing, which leads to some fights being more cerebral than in a lot of stories, with moves and counter moves based around an opponent's power set being very important!
That alone puts it a notch above a lot of fiction on RR.
The grammar and spelling are all well done. There's a plot, and the author moves it along nicely in the first book, which is a bout as far as I've gotten.
I'm really liking Nightsea Outlaw thus far. Give it a try! - Nemo KnoxRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This review is based on what I've read up to Chapter 6 - Quiet Questioning.
First of all, I'd like to admit I'm a sucker for western yarns. I would describe the vibe the author goes for as Westernpunk; there's echoes of absolute gems like Trigun, Gungrave, Cowboy Bebop and Borderlands in it. And I mean this as absolute praise.
The first chapter does a great job of giving you a taste of what's to come—the story hasn't passed the 1k word mark by the time it's already given you a sympathetic MC, his motivation, a pair of antagonists to root against, and world-building elements in the form of an organization and religion, all of this intermingled with an awesome action set piece.
And talking about action set pieces, the author does a great job of using the setting to enhance the fight scenes. The prose feels measured and tight, which fits this type of story like a glove.
There's hints of China Miéville, Cormac McCarthy and Stephen King to Nightsea Outlaw that are neatly wrapped in the progression fantasy trappings that other popular stories in Royal Road possess, which makes me feel optimistic about this series' future.
Thank the Scions this crab can write! - Samantha NelsonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Looking at the cover, you'd think there'd be more poems.
And so it was I entered in, seeking my final home.
Alas my hopes were shattered. It wasn't all in song.
Instead it's a western fantasy. I was so very wrong.
The style's like a western with guns and gore and fights.
But even without the poetry, I guess that it shines bright.
The characters are distinctive, each with hopes and dreams.
Sadly, there's no Disney element, causing them to sing.
Still, I have my favorite. Perhaps she'll sing in time.
Regardless, I am certain that they will get on fine.
The grammar's like a river, moving as it needs.
Lacking any issue, it didn't cause my eyes to bleed.
The story is just starting, moving through this town,
like an old western sheriff, putting villains down.
I'm very interested to see it go from here.
Perhaps they'll journey onward or stay and drink some beer.
Regardless, you should read this; it's a different sort of fun.
Might and monsters roam the streets while people load their guns.
So my message to all city folk and country folk at rest,
gather round the wagon. Read this story; it's the best!
