- SolusEclipseRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have this to be one of my favorites of all time and I read A LOT.
My first impresion was honestly not the best, I didn't like it that much because it felt so very dark, alot of stories that start like that get grimdark and I don't really like the genre. This changed after meeting Jury.
Even if the story is pretty dark, I find myself routing for Frost and Jury, the outcommings of the fights feel like they have wight and I wouldn't put it past Syringe to have Frost lose, to have some chracterdevelopment, or just for the fun of it. The fights all feel like they are worht to be faught and are important.
The gramma is pretty good, I never noticed anything wrong with it, but maybe I am just desensitized due to MTL's and the fact that english isn't my first language.
The story is the real deal here. The world is consistend in itselfe the motives of the caracter's are valid the worldbuilding is a pice of art and the story has me at the edge of my seat time and time again.
There are no 'I am evil 'cause I am evil' villains.
Even the reason that Frosts mind doesn't just 'break apart' is implied.
That Frost isn't just seen as a hero also helps the world a lot.
The whole cast have their own motivations and reasons to do what they are doing, there was never an event when they acted really out of character.
If you don't like the gender-bender tag, I can reassure you that it isn't realy a focus of the story.
If you have the time, definitely give this a shot. - Nullkill666Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Love this story, it's good in my opinion. - Pro2aEMSRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Okay, i will try to be as descriptive as possible without dropping spoilers… Syringe here at first i thought them simply crazy. The first chaper was so utterly confusing i had no idea what i was reading or if i should even continue with this farce of a story…this sham. But something tickled the back of my brain and told me to just ride it out…theres something amazing ahead if i just had patience. The confusion continued but every now and then moments of clarity FOR THAT MOMENT IN TIME would shine through the nightmarish storm that Syringe conjured up for their readers. Those moments of clarity were truly groundbreaking in a sense of ive never read a series that literally confused me at each step of the way… do you know how hard it is to write like that? I wonder how many people didnt give this series a chance just because they couldn’t comprehend the full scope of the story? I STILL DONT understand the full scope of the story 😂🤣. Each time i think Ive figured something out Syringe steals those thoughts and stuffs my head with some other tidbit of information that further put me into thought and i to confusion… its masterfully done. Ive been 100% brutally honest in my comments after each chapter. If im happy, sad or disappointed i would say it. If i was confused, frustrated or at my wits end i would say it. My review is 100% honest without smoke and mirrors. I want people to read my review and know what theyre getting into when they read this story. It is woven like a cosmic tapestry that has so many possibilities and with each chapter its oushed towards the realm of a true masterpiece. Dont give intoyour frustrations if and when you start this story. Stick with it! The characters are so well done! You dont know friend from foe, who is good, who is evil…. Those that are looked at as evil, even identified as evil turn out to be kind and gentle. Truly remarkable is what i can say. Start this series and sit back and just absorb this. Dont give up. Just read and try to f
- ShipTeaserRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So it's about time i updated this review to a full one i guess *smile*
What to say about this story? The first thing you notice is the buttery-smooth prose, which has a very distinct style, almost poetic in places, especially in the flavour texts for skills and abilities, which are always layered and often extremely emotive.
The second thing you notice is the world is unusual. Very unusual. this is not your normal isekai, no sir. The world seems opaque at first, as does the story, which i believe can put people off, but it is entirely intentional, as the air of lovecraftian mystery that permates and pervades the story serves both to allow the reader to speculate about many things, but also discover the secrets alongside the main character Frost.
Speaking of Frost, the character is interesting, and while powerful, never feels like everything will go her way, and coupled with the grimdark world, it keeps tension high.
Bad things happen to good people, but there are sparks of bright hope within the darkness, that keeps one reading.
Other characters are very well fleshed out as well, and some of them are terribly unique. The way they all feel real in the context of the world is excellent. It compells the reader to continue to see what happens to them all.
All in all, this tale is unusual, fascinating and once you dig past the early mystery and possibly offputting opaqueness of everything, you quickly become hungry for finding out more about the many mysteries Frost will uncover, as well as see the progression of relationships and the lore of the world.
I suggest you read this, definitely! - Windy LionRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story cultivates an excellent sense of atmosphere. Do not let the first several chapters throw you off: the author's literary skill improves drastically from chapter to chapter.
Style: 5/5 - the fragmented glimpse into the background of each tragedy is very well done, with Frost looking at them through the lens of folklore and the lives of the people impacted.
Story: 5/5 - the flow of cause and effect is very smooth and meshes well with the motivations of the characters involved.
Grammar: 4/5 - for the first few chapters, the grammar and phrasing are sub-par, and would honestly be closer to a 2 or 3 out of 5, though still clear enough to read. Very quickly though, it becomes better and better. By the time the black forest arc is in full effect, I would say that Syringe is swinging with the big wordsmiths.
Character: 5/5 with caveat - this story does have a gender bender tag, but I feel as if the mindset changes and insecurities usually associated with such a tag are glossed over and quickly forgotten about. Frost reads more like a normal lesbian rather than a gender-bent ex-man, and it seems as if the tag was used almost as a crutch to justify Frost's sexual orientation. That said, her character is very deep, with struggles, loves, hates, etc... I think the deep-seated struggle between her gentle nature and the violent circumstances forced upon her are excellently done.
Each side character, co-protaginist, and non-corrupted antagonist feels like a real person, and you can't help but feel for many of their struggles.
Each corrupted feels like a person shattered by the society forced upon them. - silmaril89Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Writing reviews isn’t exactly my favourite past time, but since this… epos actually got me through a fairly long and boring ferry ride, I thought it’d be time to show my appreciation.
There isn’t much, which hasn’t already been exhaustingly portrait in one of a million books. Kindle unlimited and websites like RR make it almost impossible to claim something is unique or even new. It’s pretty much the same here and we get to meet some old favourites. Grim Dark with a sprinkling of humour, isekai with a gender swap, power creep… the list goes on. What makes this book stand out is the little hooks and crannies, the bolts, hooks and nodes that fit together seamlessly and create an immersive world with fleshed out, likeable, relatable and sometimes hate-able characters.
the plot, up until now, is consistent, well thought out and, to me, just the right amalgamation of fast paced conflict and slower paced development. And yeah, it’s one of the handful of books where I haven’t skimmed through the fights.
Frost is… relatable, at the least. He’s human, oh so human, which makes him/her infuriating from time to time but also interesting. In my opinion, she’s real, with all the pitfalls that come along with it. She’s not perfect and she sure as hell is no saint, but rather someone I would love to have over for dinner or a round of chess… maybe even a cold one. It might not sound like much but to me, that’s the essence of a good protagonist.
anyways, last but not least, the writing quality. Now, as you might have guessed, to me the writing itself is mostly what makes or breaks a book since you can pretty much find any theme anywhere at any time. And, oh boy, this one delivers. Sure, it’s one damned personal thing but the author hits the mark almost perfectly. Sure, some things I’d have preferred differently, but that’s nitpicking, at the most.
all in all, if you’re into lighter Grim Dark with a splash of irony you shouldn’t miss out on this one. It’s worth it. Read the first 20 - GenPowerEveryNightRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Not much else can summarize the story. It's just amazing. The plot, the way things are revealed within the universe, the ever growing scope of challenge and struggle of self-realization. It's just awesome. The fight scenes are emotion-evoking with their great descriptors and tug at your heartstrings. The writing is excellent, the way the author describes the character and their feelings/thoughts/actions is also equally amazing. It's just great. I could go on , and on, and on, but there's not really much else to say than this story hits all the dots and ticks all of the boxes. Definitely a gem.
Give it a read! - GuthanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I went into this feeling wary because of the gender bender. I was surprised to find the story isn't cringe at all. It's very well written. Not too many tropes either. I can imagine this story going far if it keeps the quality high.
One of the worst signs of a bad fantasy novel is a harem, and luckily I don't see that yet. The second sign is one dimensional villains. While the main villain seems a bit cliche, I am willing to give that a free pass until we find out more. I think there should be some more villains, preferably non-corrupted ones. The king of Puritas might be one but he's on the other side of the country from the MC. The evil spider race needs to be exterminated from the planet. - Jakis_tam_nikRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Well, i like the story, characters are pretty good and i wasn't able to see any grammar errors, it might be because it's not my native language. It was kinda confusing at timea but it is propably on me. I seen that this work was compared to SCP but it feels much much more likely to be inspired by Lobotomy Corporation. Good stuff
- JiminyThicketRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Recently got back into this after putting it down for a while, read about 100 chapters in the last couple of days, and was reminded of just how good it was. The design of the monsters and abilities is incredibly thematically pleasing to me, while remaining messy enough to give a human feel to a litrpg system. There are compelling settings, compelling characters, and interesting if a bit confusing plotlines
