As a low level crab, I see potential in this story. The premise is sound and interesting: A monster hunter-turned cook find himself adopting at least two children with the promise of the story being about protecting and raising the children. The story is definitely there, and there is potential here waiting to come out.
My one piece of advice to the author is to let the story breathe (alternatively, let the story simmer) before rushing on. The story moves rapidly, and the one letdown is that there never feels like time for the characters to stew on what happened. Pacing is what needs work.
Again, I want to stress the potential here. Chapter five at the very start shows what the author can do when allowing the story to breathe. You get to be in the little girls head for a time and you can get the time to experience what she feels from her perspective.
Other than that, a couple of things to note: Foodstuffs (or stuff that can be eaten) has magical properties in this world. A lot of the story is going to be leveraging that fact. If you want that in your story, this will be interesting to you. Monster hunters exist, and Kenji does not like that he was one, to the point of adopting a goblin child instead of killing it.
Grammar is on point, with only a few understandable typos (Genji instead of Kenji once, and this is coming from the crab that left out the 'd' in 'moustached man' after two proofreads).
In conclusion, this story presents an interesting premise so far, and if you let the author cook this story to completion, I think you will be able to say that you enjoyed the meal.
Slight edit: Either the author has been doing some 'behind the scenes' work since I read it, or I missed a couple of things in the read. While I'm still adamant about letting it breathe, it is better than my initial score might lead someone to believe.
Either way, I repeat: LET HIM COOK!
