Modern Magic is too Pedantic

Somehow finding himself in a magical world, wilderness firefighter John Calhoun is immediately attacked by a dragon. One that he somehow manages to kill with the greatest tool of any forest firefighter, a shovel. Now, he feels obligated to take care of the dragons youngling while discovering and experimenting with his strange new draconic powers. Unbeknownst to him, but beknownst to the reader, the world governments are hunting his new ward; because in this world, everyone gains power based on the first animal they kill, and every royal family, their mothers, and their second cousins twice removed wants a child with the power of a dragon.
