Description

This fiction is on an indefinite hiatus. I personally do not recommend getting into it.

It turns out, the Goddess’s promised utopia is not so free of warfare after all.

After jumping off from the twelfth story balcony, his body destroyed beyond repair, Cillian wakes up in the afterlife. He is greeted by a sympathetic Goddess, who promises to make up for the unfortunate fate that Cillian suffered on Earth. She offers to reincarnate Cillian into a utopia; a land of heroes, magic, and glory, where he can heal his depression in peace, free of warfare and misery. What she fails to mention is that her utopia is at risk of collapse, and only Cillian’s efforts can save the world from destruction.

Join jobless New-Yorker Cillian Bermeyer as he is tricked into the burdens of a Goddess’s apostle to save Kroses Sol—a land plagued by the injustice of aristocracy, insane mages, and a cult that seeks to strip him of his newfound magic powers by any means necessary.

Readers Can Expect:

- Friendships

- Depression

- Multiple Magic Systems

- Weak to Strong arc

- Overpowered Enemies and High Stakes

I got an early copy of this work to review, and I greatly enjoyed it! This novel shakes off a lot of the conventions of power fantasy isekai while retaining the charm of the genre. Cillian is a likable hero to root for, and you want to see him reach a better state of mind. The band of friends he makes along the way and his relationships to them are believable and organic. The world building does a great job of implying a greater world and larger things at work while focusing on Cillian's story.
While there is certainly a plot and plot progression, it's primarily a character driven plot with Cillian's character growth at it's core (and by character growth, I mean in the traditional sense, not the LitRPG leveling sense). By the end of volume one, both Cillian and the plot have made marked and satisfying progress while leaving plenty on the table for the rest of the series. The plot is straightforward and easy to understand without being overly simple. The pacing is well done I think, with each act having a distinct beginning, middle and end. The prose is well done and easy to read. It does get clunky every now and then, but never to the point where I couldn't understand it. The dialogue feels natural. It has a lot of genuine humor to spice up it's emotional lows, with Cillian's candid narration providing much of it.
I typically read more LitRPG manga than novels, but if I'm offered an early copy of volume two I'll be sure to check it out!

The MC didn't make too much sense. If his wish was to end his days, what motive would suddenly change his mind in the afterlife? Then it feels like his personality took an almost complete 180 very suddenly as opposed to a linear change that one might expect from a work like this. Overall I just feel like there were some shortcomings with the MC and overall there wasn't as much depth given to the cast in the 400 pages that one might hope for. Story and quality of prose were both quite decent though and I don't regret reading this, which already puts it above quite a few novels.
