On Hiatus!
Magic is re-introduced to the Earth. Ancient gates appear, creatures that have been in stasis roam, and people discover how to craft spells. Things get chaotic and apocalyptic as the world as we know it ends. Armies of goblins come through the gates. Institutions collapse. People revolt.
Jeremy Miller lived his life by a set of rules and routines before all this. Now he tries to find order in the chaos by creating a system to help people survive their new reality.
...
This began as a conversation about how interesting it would be to write about a character creating a LitRPG System. The system is based on a magic system created by my partner for a video game he is developing.
Because the main character is going to create the system in this story, this is lite LitRPG and system aspects will not be present right away. You can expect dungeon diving, stats in later chapters, multi-dimensional characters, and plenty of worldbuilding.
This story is a slow burn!
...
This is a work of fiction. Actual places and institutions are mentioned, but any resemblance to real events or people are purely coincidental.

- Uncharted BloodlinesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Magic's resurgence on Earth sets the stage for Identify. I love the new system premise and how the formerly rule bound main character Jeremy is challenged in the rising chaos while forging new relationships.
Style (5/5):
The storytelling in Identify seamlessly weaves mystery, magic, and suspense into an enchanting tapestry. I loved the use of vivid imagery in the first chapter and the banter between Moria and Jeremy felt like a familiar dance, injecting humor into the chaos. The gradual unfolding of the narrative kept intrigue alive, leaving me eager to dive deeper into their journey.
Grammar (4.5/5):
Grammar-wise, Identify stood firm with only minor hiccups. Nothing major enough that it pulled me out of the story.
Story (5/5):
Identify propelled me through a magical rollercoaster of discoveries, perilous encounters, and evolving friendships. Each chapter added a layer to the overarching plot, unveiling magical elements like hidden treasures. The evolving relationship between Jeremy and Moria served as the story's heartbeat, fueling my interest to keep reading.
Character (4.5/5):
Moria and Jeremy’s evolving relationship and struggles really resonated with me given their relatable emotions and reactions in the face of magical chaos. I liked the introduction of newer characters in the latter chapters and I am sure as the story grows in scope the dynamics of their relationship will be further enriched by their shared experiences.
Overall, I’ve really enjoyed the chapters I’ve read so far and look forward to seeing what happens next as Jeremy strives to create a system to help people survive the chaos that is their new reality. - OzzieWormRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This... Is awesome. It's a system story but it's not.
First 4-5 chapters are probably a little slow, just finding the groove but a groove it really sets into. I just want to know so much more, like... What's our protagonists history about? Why's he so meticulous and methodical about everything. Who are his parents really?
While I could nitpick the storyline at times, the flow is consistent. There's no real unexplainable time jumps. Where the characters seem to pause between scenes, a day or two might be skipped. But it's explained away logically for progression of the story. - PeacefulCoreRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Finally!!
This is a kind of book I've been looking for years, finally.
Lucky for me, this story appeared in my random search and reading description.
I've been imagining what kind of story if the main character created a system from a scratch. Now it's here, already written.
Thank you, I will come back for more specific review. - RavnicrasolRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0To get the minutia out of the way: The characters are interesting, the plot is serviceable, the grammar is good, and the style is good too. The story doesn't have any glaring weaknesses.
Now, for any new readers: The plot is not the point of the story, the core of the story is the protagonist trying to figure out the new world.
It takes a while for it to become apparent, but once things come into full swing it's clear that the narrative is built around and centered on "learning" the system. As things move forward the emphasis and weight of "learning" starts to become more obvious, and at this point of the story everything just feels like it's a loaded gun waiting for the trigger to be pulled.
And that's really the strong-suit: the worldbuilding.
To summarize: magic has been unleashed, Earth has been remade, creatures of legend now walk the streets... and humans are caught in the crossfire. But they now have magic themselves. It's an interesting enough premise, but the devil's in the details, with the emergent nature of the magic's inner workings seeming to allow for larger degrees of complexity (it's barely touched on at this point, but the signs are there).
So yeah, if you're the sort of person who likes to read stories because of the worldbuilding (like me), then this one's for you. - AlsoJohnRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A very advanced writing style lets the story unfold in flashes. It seems to start about a chapter in but, no, it starts in just the right place. The chaos is organic not manufactured and the protagonists are both ordinary and somehow not at the same time. It's got magic, it's got boxes, it got gates, it's something as yet not quite defined gained when the new invasive fantasy creatures are overcome.
- ColscimitarRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Finding it to be a really interesting story, it's got some good character development, some good world building and it looks to be an interesting magic system I can't wait to get more but the magic system seems to be a slow roll out. I will definitely be continuing to read along with the story seeing where it goes.
- Common ReaderRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A somewhat believable apocalipse, instead of billions of people dying and the world being upside down like many other novels, this one bring a more realistic approach with society slowly crumbling and many trying to adapt to it.
The MC is a guy that wants to help others survive by discovering how magic works so he tries to understand and structure it with his unique trait, he is not overpowered, bringing a fresh take one the genre where.
A solid novel, recommend 10/10 - DWWRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The first couple of chapters are not reflective on how good the rest of the story is. After you leave the party the next 20 or so chapters have this awesome really claustrophobic feel, its super writing that really lands apocalypse with a knock out punch. Reminds me somewhat of the movie Cloverfield - no one really knows what's going on, there's a disaster unfolding and some people are panicking, others going to work, others looking for their cat and some grinding that xp. And of course Government dithering and doing shady shit.
The author really fleshes out the characters nicely, they feel real, rather than plot points for the MC. I like the fact there are no info dumps and we're discovering things in real time alongside the characters.
This is a slow burn, pacing is enough to keep you hooked, but I'm guessing may be a pain if you are reading as released. So this may be one to save up 8-10 chapters and do them in one hit.
Thank you. - Juice (OJ)Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I know most review swaps are often overhyped, but I genuinely believe that once this novel hits 100 chapters, it will be on the first page of the top of all time. The magic is interesting, the world is realistic, the characters are fun and have cool powers, and things are apocalyptic in every sense. All this story needs now is more chapters and exposure!
Style: The style draws you in and creates a world around you. I truly feel like I'm there whenever they interact with someone new or move somewhere else. The prose is also quite pointed and uncomplicated, meaning it's easy to digest and follow. This means that things move quickly, we see a lot, and there's not a lot of fat to trim in regard to pointless fluff or filler.
Story: So far, things have been progressing consistently and in a way that raises the stakes at every level. Events are going on in the background, between the characters, and around them as they move through the world, making it feel truly alive.
Character: We also see glimpses into Jeremy's thoughts rather than him just being a self-insert. All of the other characters, even the side characters, are individuals as well. It's incredible to see so many different people moving through the world with purpose and in ways that are unique yet still realistic. It truly feels like I'm there with the gang whenever they meet someone new. Even the way that people use magic is pretty spot on, some randoms doing very stupid things from time to time.
Grammar: Fluent and without obvious issues. I haven't been pulled out of the story or noticed a spelling mistake yet so the quality is solid.
Overall, why are you still reading my review? Hit that follow button and get to reading or else you won't be able to brag that you liked this story before it got popular. - KureimoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Ok, I would have done this some hours ago but was too busy catching up. The novel is great, it takes a different approach to the apocalypse trope, and in a way slower manner than usual since we see the main characters trying to understand magic without any help whatsoever. Even though the pace might be slower it doesn't feel like it because the story flows really well and the grammar seems on point. Overall ve y recommended
