He gains the ability to permanently remove other people's powers and then redistribute them to others, while also stealing a piece of their personality with it. He’s found a solution to his inability to feel. Where it might be irrelevant for most people, for him, it is a life-changing experience. So begins his transformation into a monster, all the while becoming more human. There are no lines he won't cross, no crime he won't commit, and nobody he won't harm in pursuit of his goal. This story does have heroes, but Eryk is not one of them. What to expect:-Faction/Organization Building-Intelligent/Calculating MC-Slow burn, step-by-step rise to power-Interesting 3-dimensional cast of characters-Neutral Evil protagonist Volume Two Synopsis: Nobody assembled his group, formed a company, eliminated his enemies, and amassed a wealth of powers and personality pieces. He did it all without leaving a single witness, maintaining his anonymity. Everything was going perfectly until he found out he had an observer nearly the entire time. A Cape thought long dead was behind the scenes, watching him from above. Nobody was shown just how vast the world is, and how small he truly is in the world of Neuvohumans. Forced to destroy his base, give up nine powers, and expose his identity to a subordinate, he isn’t deterred but fiercely motivated to get strong enough to never be in that position again. Quinstin has no idea that Nobody has arrived. By the time they do, it will be too late. Nothing will stand in his way; the BNA, the Heroes’ Union, rival Cowl groups, and other unaffiliated Neuvohumans will bend the knee or be crushed by his boot. Volume ThreeSynopsis: Things are changing in Quinstin. As Nobody's list of enemies grows, so too will his followers' power. Anti-Neuvohuman sentiment is bubbling beneath the surface, tensions building like a powderkeg, and Nobody plans to use the explosion to his advantage. Fractures have formed in the Heroes' Union, and Miles won't stop until the entire organization shatters into a thousand pieces. Aubrey is still reeling from the death of her friend at the hands of someone she believed was a hero. This will lead her down a path of revenge that will make her question everything she once believed in. Eryk is navigating a new relationship while trying not to let the shadows of his past eclipse his future. It's time to find out just how far you're willing to go for love.

- PenjaminRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The Ebb and Flow series is at an impressively high quality from start to finish. Or at least to the latest chapters, but I don't see any reason why the writing and plot would get worse. My personal favorite aspect is the premise, which is a cool and original take on the superhero/villain genre. Another fun and engaging factor is the superpowers and the way they work, as well as how they interact with the MC and in fights. The writing prose is good, the plot is great, the world is vibrant, and the characters are awesome. The thing that really sets this story apart from other good and interesting stories on this platform is how professional it seems. I haven't seen any awkward sentences, grammatical errors or anything of that nature. Everything is polished to a high standard, even the smallest details like the cover. As a bonus, it seems like the author will be keeping a consistent and frequent upload schedule along with audience engagement, which is nice to see. Go read this now.
- SparkyNickelRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Not sure where the review says I've read to but I am subbed to the Patreon and have been following since day 1. This story has done nothing but grow and improve on a great concept that feels like it evolves the further along we go. Eryk doesn't get to feel unless he takes from other people but never knows what he'll be stuck with, good or bad. He somehow remains likeable manipulating those around him to further his goals alongside a cast of eclectic psychopaths and adrenaline junkies.
Where it really shines is creativity, whether it's finding the most accurate description for the worst thing of all time, or a sex pervert putting on a puppet show to describe her day (comedy, I promise). Each main character shines through really well and helps develop a sense of camaraderie that one day maybe Eryk will get to feel.
I really don't know how the story hasn't blown up yet, but give it a read, please. - CheetohDustDetectiveRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story is captivating, with a slow descent into villainy by our protagonist. The budding of new emotions feels as though you can never be quite sure what he might do next. Sol constantly rewards the suspension and I have yet to feel unsatisfied. I would highly reccomend giving this story a shot.
PS: -2 for no slop iskeai system apocalypse. - AglabNargunRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0TL;DR: Well-written story with interesting characters, would recommend!
So far this has been a terrific story with fairly long chapters that are still manageable to read in a short break. However, I would warn against starting it close to a deadline as you may find it hard to put down!
The MC has a realism to them that I wouldn’t expect in a superhero story and their flaws are integrated really well into the story arcs. The diverse cast of characters that follow and oppose them seem well fleshed-out and don’t just bow/lose to him through some deus ex machina nonsense.
There are a couple of instances (two or three) over the many chapters, where something happens that is logically inconsistent. However, for a story that is this long, I would have expected more of them.
The author takes a fun and interesting approach to interacting with the reader. They do it in a way that 1. doesn’t detract from the reading experience (e.g., there are only the minimum shoutouts to other stories, unlike some which have them in every chapter) and 2. Doesn’t feel like the story is pulled together from reader suggestions. It is clear the author has planned out the big lines of their work and any suggestions only really flesh out little extras here or there.
On the whole, I would feel comfortable recommending this story to anyone who likes a superhero/supervillain story, but more importantly, I would advise it also to those who don’t really (like myself). The writing style doesn’t feel childish like that of most superhero stories that I’ve tried in the past. As the tags indicate, it is definitely one for more mature readers who enjoy a character’s actions having consequences. Additionally, there are plenty of little threads that foreshadow potential issues the MC may face down the line, really reinforcing that feeling.
All in all, a superb story that is well-written, with absolutely minimal grammatical or syntax issues. I love it and cannot wait for more to be published. - RevrendBadassRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'm a beta-reader (who has read the finished piece) and friend of Mister Sol's from our days together in the Pizza mines.
I'm giving this book 5 stars. It has a solid blend of action and suspense. There is a healthy blend of realism and fantasy that keeps things grounded while not overshadowing the Super aspects of the universe. The writing style is well suited to the subject matter, with differing POV's throughout.
The main and supporting characters have realistic arcs and depth and feel like real people. I like that I'm rooting for Eryck even though the narrative makes it clear he's a bad guy. The side characters (like Eryk's dad) are believable and distinct from one another. I think that's something a lot of authors struggle with.
The story itself flows very nicely and I think gives the characters interesting setbacks to overcome. As a reader I appreciate the consistency of the in-story rules regarding super powers. The plot is believable (in-universe), the characters and dialogue are enjoyable, the story is well-paced and the only criticism I can level is that there isn't more of it to read yet.
There are very few grammatical errors and those that are pointed out are fixed promptly.
In summation I haven't been a big reader the last few years but this book kept me on the edge of my in seat and constantly left me wanting more. 5/5 - Droy17Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Only small number of author really write about villainous main character and this is one the best. Due to being a villain isnt really popular genre, so proprs to the author for atleast giving us a new and unique genre to read.
Style
The novel distinguishes itself immediately through its unconventional approach to the superhero genre. Rather than following a traditional hero, it centers on an unrepentant villain—one who lacks overwhelming physical prowess and instead operates as a calculated, strategic mastermind. This shift in perspective feels both refreshing and deliberate.
The prose itself is clean and engaging, with pacing that moves briskly without ever feeling rushed. Scenes transition smoothly, maintaining momentum while still allowing key moments to land with proper weight. Altogether, the style reflects a confident command of both tone and structure. It stands out as one of the more creative works on Royal Road, and it leaves a strong impression of narrative intent and direction.
Story
The story unfolds within a world that is expansive and clearly well-considered. There is a tangible sense that the setting extends far beyond what is currently shown, giving the narrative a broader scope and long-term potential. This lends a quiet excitement to each development, as the reader anticipates not only what will happen next, but how the world itself may evolve.
If there is a point of criticism, it lies in the occasional convenience of circumstance—moments where the protagonist seems to arrive at precisely the right place to become entangled in unlikely situations. While this can momentarily strain immersion, it remains a minor issue within an otherwise compelling narrative.
Overall, the story is engaging, imaginative, and deserving of high praise.
Characters
The true strength of the novel lies in its characters. Each one feels deliberately crafted, with distinct personalities that go beyond surface-level traits.
- MindSparkleRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0From the very first chapter, the writing pulled me in and refused to let go. The psychological tension is masterfully built, the characters feel raw and real, and every twist kept me on edge. I found myself thinking about the story long after I stopped reading. Mister Sol has a real gift for weaving suspense and emotion into something unforgettable!
- Mocking BirdRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The MC is a psychopath. He's emotionless, and puts on a facade, whether to be the good son, the charming boyfriend, or the "glue" keeping a group of friends together.
The story takes a turn when he gains his abilities. Instead of transforming into a monster, gaining super strength, or becoming a certified genius, he gains the ability to steal powers, and distribute them at will. More importantly, as a byproduct he gains a random trait or emotion.
For anyone else, the effects might be irrelevant. For an emotionless husk, it's a life changing experience and addiction. The MC turns into a monster, while simultaneously becoming more and more human. It's an interesting contrast.
On that note, the story really picks up when he gains his crew. - ThePurplePathRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Overall: Must Read
The Ebb and Flow series is extremely well done, definitely could be a published work as is. If you enjoy Pale Lights or Worm this is going to be right up your alley.
Style:
Smooth writing that illustrates the dark superhero world we find ourselves in. The authors pacing is very well done - teases future happenings and slowly builds out the world.
Characters: Great cast of characters with unique motivations. Characters feel alive, and have deep interactions with one another. Our MC is a master manipulator who changes throughout the story bc of his power - don’t want to give any spoilers!
Grammar: No noticeable spelling errors or grammar snafus
