- Cardguy5Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This isnt a story about Joseph its a story about stories and the nature of fictional characters.
but if you’re interested dont waste time reading reviews read the story and leave a review of your own, it’s only five pages after all.
i will miss you DanteAAA, you live on eternally in my mind… - MK bk-201Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I thought this was something Chronicle of a Death Foretold, but it was actually a interesting read about the meaning we give to stories, characters and imaginary scenarios, do the characters actually live in fiction?, do we kill them when we witness their death, do we kill them all when we reach the end?, who knows?, for sure i dont.
- Thomas LoudRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Joseph Will Die In The Third Chapter (JWDITTC), is a ten to fifteen minute read that more than anything else is a pleasant experience to go through. From top to bottom it feels like the author didn't just think out what he wanted to do but how he would do it. So, I'll start with style.
Style: This is what makes me rate this piece as high as I do. I feel as if I'm listening to a friend or colleague unravel a riddle or tell me a parable. It's a 2nd POV piece, so the narrator spends the entire course of the story talking directly to the reader and thanks to that proximity, I find I'm more engaged. The text ambles about a bit as we do when talking naturally, but everything still centers around the ultimate theme of the piece, which I'll get to in the story section. Before that, I would also love to mention the chapter titles, which help give the story its experimental feel for me. They all center around the titular third chapter, funneling the reader there in a way that gives the impression you could start there and fan out to read the rest of the story. And it reads like that as well, you could really start on any chapter in this piece and have it flow properly, the sense of time is well made.
Story: The story is what it says on the tin can, Joseph will die in the third chapter. However, its made clear from the start that Joseph's impending, occurring, and occurred death is more a vehicle to talk about the nature of fiction and stories. Or more to give an example of what the author is describing as the root of our stories. And while I won't say some new truth has been reached by the final chapter that you couldn't have seen coming, I will say that the ride to it is one that kept me roped in and wanting to see what and how exactly the theme would be concluded.
Grammar: It's good, no issues I could really see.
Character: So despite the name of the story, the only character present is the narrator, because Joseph isn't much of one throughout this entire piece. And it is - loppoffRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is a short story that talks about some philosophy and morals. There are no defined characters or actions except the narrator, who directly talks to the reader about Joseph.
It’s not the usual thing found on RR, but I say at least flip through the first chapter out of curiosity. - RznRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5This is interesting and experimental and very meta at the same time. A good way to pose a question to the reader. It is a fun and quirky little book that has some of its illusions being ruined by RR's info-format and the assumption of the mode. Haha. I use Dark mode! Did not expect that did you book?! Anyways, this was fun though!
- LazerFXRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0It's an experimental, intruiging and weird short story that... well, read it and make your own view up. I'm probably going to remember it for a good while. It's no "Billion Names of God" or "Light of Other Days", that I come back to time and time again, but... it's got spark of something.
