What To Expect: While this story definitely utilizes humor, it leads with post-apocalyptic, fantasy and dark vibes first. It is written in a fast-paced, sometimes nearly prose, manner with limited descriptions. People have called it an easy, gripping read for this reason. POV shifts between the main characters after an initial dual POV with a focus on Rosabella. Two AI pictures head every chapter, and the font is used stylistically to create the feeling of a video game. If you prefer to read without either of these things, feel free to change it in your reader preferences.

- seven_of_sixesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0You fall into the story so well you feel right next to Rosabella as she is stringed along by an odd group who threaten, and lie to her yet they don't seem evil. I like how the author adds alot more to the story to Immerse the reader such as drawings, health bar, even the font brings feels like an Arcade game. The focus of the book is dragons and it absolutely delivers! It is easy to empathize with Rosabella and her father but Joy and the rest are very well etched out. Howeve the Dragons are my favorite character, the author does a great job not only brining them to life but gives them their own voice, very cool. The darken and the one who took over after the Game Makers creating dark magic really thickens the plot quite nicely.
Style: Is consistent and clear the first person described through the eyes of Rosabella is done well.
Chronology: The timing and progression is that of someone who knows what they are doing.
Story: The plot was clear and it slowly deepens as slowly deepens. The addition of items adding Rosabellas own lore is a nice touch.
Character Motivation: What better motivation than having to your dad.
Plot Device: The stolen magic of the world and her dad being kidnapped are intertwined and both flow in naturally.
Grammar and Vocabulary: It was easy to understand and the characters voice satys consistent. - Anthony and Leisel VolskiRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So, it may very well be that I don't read much (if any) grimdark stuff. Or if I have, it hasn't been labelled as such. In my opinion, In The Dragon's Mouth reads more as a YA dystopian fantasy that, as you might speculate from the title of the book, progresses at a scorching fast pace. While this isn't a criticism of the work, it's best to know that the action and conflict depicted here occurs at a blistering pace.
Stylistically, this was a low point for me. While the author does an excellent job writing in first person present tense, some of it reads a little squinchy to me due to some odd formatting choices that don't work well for me. A lot of italicization, almost to the point where it doesn't emphasize the point anymore. There is also a torrid affair between the author and the em dash in play. These work about 50/50... sometimes a comma or an ellipses conveys the message just as well.
The grammar is largely spot on, and the author is quick to correct the sparse typos noted by readers in the comments.
I actually don't like any of the characters except for Rosabella and Goran. While this may come across as a criticism, it's anything but. Simply put, the ancillary characters are fully fleshed out with their own faults and motivations, and at this time I do not trust any of them. There's a heavy air of manipulation, and details are being deliberately withheld. Really well done.
The story is very well conceived, but misses a few marks for me. Perhaps a little too fast paced in places, I almost expect the climax at the beginning of each new chapter and we're probably not very far in. But the world is well crafted, lowkey grimdark, and compelling. Also, potential trigger warning (I despise this term)... if you are dealing with any close family trauma, this will be a challenging read. It is, however, ultimately worthwhile. - Anti_HeroesRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Style: The author's use of vivid imagery and attention to detail paints a clear picture of the settings and actions, and the pacing is well-balanced, alternating between moments of intense action and quieter character development.
Story: The story introduces us to a captivating world where dragons roam and darkness threatens. The protagonist, Rosabella, is a relatable and courageous character who is thrown into a dangerous quest. The plot unfolds gradually, gradually revealing key details about the world and the protagonist's role in it. The presence of the Darken, the decaying creatures influenced by black magic, adds an element of danger and urgency to the story, and the incorporation of dreams and visions adds an additional layer of intrigue to the narrative.
Grammar: No real grammatical issues. The sentence structure is strong, ensuring clarity and coherence throughout the chapters.
Characters: The protagonist, Rosabella, is relatable and undergoes significant growth as the story progresses. Her determination, vulnerability, and sense of humor make her a compelling lead. The supporting characters, such as Rainer, Callen, Joy, and Dormouse, all have distinct personalities and contribute to the dynamics of the group.
Overall: "In the Dragons mouth" presents a compelling LitRPG Isekai story with a unique premise, engaging writing style, and well-rounded characters. The author's attention to detail and strong descriptive language create an immersive reading experience. The story's pacing keeps me invested, and the gradual unveiling of the world's mysteries adds intrigue. - ArkeanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A fascinating read, In The Dragon's Mouth is an exciting, fast paced novel that leaves one wanting to know more as it goes on, filling you with questions that are answered as the story continues on. It is certainly a must read for those that love LitRPG fictions!
Style: The style is refreshing to read, entirely first person allows you to experience the inner thoughts of the main character, their emotions, fear, uncertainty and determination as her adventure into the unknown keeps going, immersing you into the world and the characters around her.
Story: The story is exciting, fast paced and the world building is top tier. It leaves you wanting to know more as the story continues, bringing exciting plot points that leave your imagination to run out of control. A brilliant story that makes me want to keep going to find out what happens next.
Grammar: No glaring or obvious grammar/spelling mistakes at all, allowing the story to flow naturally and smoothly.
Character: The characters including the main character are all very interesting, each with their own motivations, emotions and plans. They all feel refreshing to read, to the point where one starts to connect with them in the hopes that everyone survives the journey. - BugyRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story keeps you on edge the entire time. The author uses constant dialogue and speaks from the perspective of the MC. I really like the first person perspective, and how we only know what the MC knows at the time. I truly feel like I am along for the ride.
The dialogue is written very well. Something I noticed immediatly is how the writing got better as I read more. I wouldn't discount this story if you feel like the first couple chapters are a little clunky to read. I really like that the author is innovating and improving as the story develops.
The first fight scene was written very well, and I really liked how clever it was. Clearly, a lot of thought was put into it.
I really like how there is art at the beginning of every chapter. These added details of extra effort definitely add to the story.
The structure can be odd at times. The paragraphs are very small, and some of the added elements are very clunky. The red bar across the screen doesn't add to the story that much, and a number would probably make for a better read.
Overall, I really enjoyed the story. The element of mystery kept me entertained the whole time. - Den ForesttRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have to admit, this story was not particularly my cup of tea but it is a good story nonetheless.
The interactions between the characters are fluid and well described. They are involved in interesting activities as well and are always on the go.
If anything I feel like the prose are way above the standard that I would normally read and write at, so kudos to the author. At times I fail to understand what is being said on the chapter but I try to read between the lines. That being said it is still a awesome read. The characters are lovable as they are relatable. And the story is not bad at all. I find myself reading deeper into the novel to try to understand things. It keeps the pages turning after a while.
The grammar is neat and concise and the style of writing is very good indeed. I have no complains about the story. It is quite good storytelling.
This story is worth checking out if you are a fan of the genre. I would say it's a very good representation of what's possible. Therefore I would recommend this book, you should give it a try if you are curious! - Eccentric ExpositionRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I'll preface this by clarifying that I don't read LitRPGs, so consider this review suitable for people who are also new to the genre.
The more complicated aspects of the genre are clearly explained after a well-paced character introduction that lets you get invested in an endearing main character. I can see the author carefully pacing themselves as they seed both worldbuilding and future plot hooks throughout the text. Overall the author shows a good understanding of story structure and dynamic characterisation.
The grammar could be better, but what it sacrifices, it makes up for in confidence and energy. So far, the story has distinct characters with motivations, which I can readily see providing their elaboration for world-building and reasons for conflict and progression. Each character sets up their own stakes, providing a wide variety of readers with people to empathise with and relate to.
(My favourite is Joy.)
I can see this story being enthusiastically updated and providing a rewarding serial worth investing time into. Regular updates and a simple content structure make it easy for casual readers or mobile users to binge.
I'll offer a caveat: if you're morally opposed to AI-generated art, you should avoid this one, as the author frequently uses it to start each chapter.
Otherwise, get stuck in if you're looking for zombie horror and a dragon-slaying adventure! It's now on my follow list. - FirstNexusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story is very fast paced and there isn't much set up of the characters before we're thrust into the actual story, which makes the read fun and fast paced. So far, the story has contained the right level of exposition for the inexperienced MC, and pure action.
Style: This is an interesting style, one I've never really read before, but the author writes it well. The paragraphs are much shorter, but it never feels clunky the way it's written. Instead, the single sentence paragraphs seem to put more emphasis on certain points, and flow extremely well sentence to sentence.
Story: The story so far, as stated above, has been fast paced, easily catching my attention and creating a thrilling tale. Since it's from first person POV, we get the perspective of the MC, and the world is built through her eyes. This however, rather than making the story seem limited, lets the reader learn about the world as we follow along with the characters.
Grammar: Nothing really to say here as I haven't seen anything out of the ordinary so far.
Character: The characters so far have been fleshed out well, and even while seeing from the MC's perspective, the reader and the MC both are able to discern much of the personalities of the other characters. Each one is written distinctly and well, and I'm excited to see each of them develop.
All in all, this has been an exciting read so far and I recommend anyone who finds this story to follow and read it! - KleggtRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I don't often start with style as my first section when doing a review, but if there is one thing that this novel has - it is style. From the outset, the font choice and the structure of the prose are certainly different; the uniqueness reminds me of something that I can't quite place - but I would say it is a strength of the work.
The MC is a believable and relatable character. Like many stories in this genre, being thrown into a new world is a shock, and Rosabella deals with this in a way that makes sense considering the life she had been living before the Hook hits.
Story-wise, the pace ups the anticipation and suspense with all the things that the MC suddenly has to deal with. The mystery and action are given the weight they require to be effective and leave you wanting to read that little bit more. The Hook with the personal connection to the MC is a very interesting one, and this novel will stay on my follows for a day that I can catch up and find out for myself how things develop!
Grammatically there were no issues; the structure and style of prose were consistent throughout, which made it easy enough to read and follow.
Overall a very interesting story that promises great depth and vibrant characterisations, not only for the MC but also the side characters. I recommend! - LUCIFER36Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Grammar:
The book is meticulously crafted with no noticeable grammatical issues. Each chapter is carefully polished before being presented to the readers, resulting in a smooth and well-paced story.
Style:
The author's skill and experience shine through in the style of this story. The prose is immediate and flows effortlessly, drawing the reader in from the very beginning. The writing is stripped down for efficiency, delivering all the necessary information without unnecessary fluff. Despite the quick pace, it never feels rushed or abrupt. There is a constant sense of danger and movement, with the world gradually becoming darker and more ominous as the story progresses.
Story:
In this book, the author takes a conventional trope and executes it wonderfully. The story revolves around the protagonist's quest to save her father, and the emotional connection between the characters is established right from the start. The litRPG genre is skillfully integrated into the narrative, adding an interesting layer to the story. The pacing is well-maintained, keeping the reader engaged and eager to see the protagonist's growth and the eventual reunion with her father.
Character:
The characters in this story are the true highlight. The protagonist, Rosabella, is a feisty and sympathetic character who immediately captures the reader's heart. Her development and journey are compelling, and her determination to reunite with her father is palpable. The author has successfully created fleshed-out characters who enhance the overall strength of the world. The supporting characters also stand out with their distinct personalities and motivations, evoking different emotions from the reader.
Overall:
This book showcases the talent and expertise of the author. The story is engaging, the style is efficient and immersive, and the characters are compelling. The absence of grammatical issues further enhances the reading experience. While this may not be the typical genre for some readers, it is c
