Easy reading with a tried and tested cultivation system, all the best tropes and a few I have just learned.
our young hero is just trying to live a happy normal cultivation lifestyle hold up it the sect but that will just never work. - GlitterAndDoomRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This chapter is CRIMINALLY good at doing what it sets out to do: make you go "oh SHIT" three times in a row, each time for different reasons.
First oh-shit moment: The setup. The author takes time to explain why challenging Bai Xuelian is insane. We get the mechanics of cultivation gap, the visual of her crushing Qi, and then—WHAM—she literally one-shots Zhao Wuxian with a sleeve flick. The description of his aura being a candle flame against an ocean? Perfect. The crowd's reaction isn't shock that she's strong; it's disappointment that the fight was too short to be interesting. That's how you convey overwhelming power difference.
Second oh-shit moment: Zhao Wuxian gets up and LAUGHS. The tonal shift here is SHARP and genuinely unsettling. Jun De even notices it—"a shiver run down his spine." The author nails the feeling of watching someone bounce back from humiliation with the wrong energy. That's not confidence anymore; that's something meaner.
Third oh-shit moment: THE TRAP. Zhao Wuxian didn't challenge Bai Xuelian to impress her or prove himself. He challenged her to DRAG JUN DE into a duel he can't win while everyone watches. And the worst part? He was never going to win anyway, so he had nothing to lose by setting it up. He took his guaranteed loss and weaponized it. That's genuinely clever villainy.
What makes this work structurally is that Zhao Wuxian's arrogance isn't actually stupidity—it's camouflage. He walks around flexing, talking big, being loud, and everyone assumes he's just a meat-headed jock. But the narration from Jun De's perspective shows the moment it clicks: "This was a trap, laid with just enough cunning to make it dangerous and using Zhao Wuxian's confidence as cover so that Jun De would never see it coming." THAT'S the character reveal. Zhao Wuxian isn't dumb; he just wants everyone to think he is so they'll underestimate him.
Bai Xuelian is perfectly deployed as the weapon here. She doesn't need complex characterization yet—she's peak 10t - The Fool PersonaRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I’m a Fake Genius in a Cultivation Sect takes the familiar building blocks of reincarnation and cultivation fiction, then plays with them in a way that’s both clever and entertaining. From the very first chapter, it delivers exactly what it promises: a protagonist who is smart, charming, and very aware of the ridiculousness of his own “blessed by the heavens” setup.
What makes it stand out is how well-paced and purposeful it feels. Many cultivation stories meander or lose track of their premise, but this one clearly knows where it’s going. Each scene serves a purpose: whether that’s fleshing out Jun De’s character, expanding the world, or setting up the next round of witty banter and unexpected twists.
The writing is clean and engaging, with humor that lands without breaking immersion. The cultivation elements feel authentic to the genre, but the novel also isn’t afraid to poke fun at its own tropes. It’s fun without being shallow, and lighthearted without losing momentum.
If you enjoy cultivation stories that balance genre respect with playful subversion, this is a must-read. Cool premise, sharp execution, and the confidence of an author who knows exactly the story they want to tell. I’m here for the ride.
Thanks a lot TG - much love <3 - DragonbobRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is exactly what it says on the tin. MC is put into the body of a super talented cultivators, but is untalented himself. Meaning he lacks any of the instincts you see in most cultivation stories. This isn't a protagonist who will withstand any pain to get even a minor boost in power, but everyone thinks he is that kind of person. His muscle memory is perfect for fighting, but he can't keep up with it.
Mostly this is a comedy of errors, watch as the MC succeeds in everything despite having no idea what he is doing, while everyone around him is praising his skills. He wants nothing more than to stay in his nice room and enjoy life. But he is getting pushed into being a proper cultivator by everyone around him. - Harvest SeasonRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story is pretty fun and is really well written.Jun De is a protagonist that doesn't know how to fight, doesn’t want to leave the Sect, and is somehow getting hailed as a reincarnated immortal because of his appearance and misunderstandings.I follow the author on Patreon and the story has good pacing without feeling rushed. I haven't found very many grammatical or spelling errors during my read through.
- MarsuRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story is very well written. The characters are given time to grow on their own and showcase their personalities. The mc claims to want a harem so that seems to be part of the direction its going, yet its not one of those where the mc goes around collecting girls like pokemon. To this point in the story he has no harem and I quite like this approach. The character interactions are great and the misunderstandings hilarious.
- LogramothRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I will be honest when I saw that this was a harem story I was quite sceptical as usually they suck ass. Im glad to say that this story is actually good. Its not incredible and I think the weakest link is definitely the harem stuff. But I think generally the story is written well. All the characters are distinct and the cultivation aspects are not overly outlandish. One small thing that I do wish was added is the more mystical elements of xanxia. The art of seeking the dao and all that is imo the best part. But otherwise a fairly solid fiction so far.
- apflbaumRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0It’s a story without much conflict, overthinking, or real challenges, something you can enjoy while relaxing, without needing to think too hard. The world is 100% classic Xianxia, filled with all the usual tropes and sect life elements. If you're familiar with the genre, you can almost predict what’s coming next, which is kind of amusing in its own way.
That said, I actually like it quite a lot. It’s a very comfortable read, and the side characters often feel more dimensional than those in some more “serious” or complex novels.
But you really have to like the OP MC. He’s your typical Gary Stu, never fails at anything, even though he’s a lazy bum and sometimes pretty dumb. I guess that’s part of the appeal. Everyone would be bedazzled even if he poops and honestly I wouldn’t be surprised if his poop is shiny golden.
Since there’s not much (serious) internal conflict and every obstacle gets resolved quickly, I do wonder how long the author can keep that up. I hope we’ll eventually see some character development or at least some deeper interests beyond just (wanting to) build a harem, because right now, he doesn’t seem to care much about anything else. This could get old.
grammer and pacing is great, nicely written as well - DumDumDomRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0I'm not going to harshly critique this nove, but I'll be fair: this isn't that kind of novel that gnaws at your mind to keep reading, nor is some epic tale that rushes adrenaline through your veins. This is a well paced novel, interesting enough to pass time, funny enough to entertain and written well enough to make sense. And, to be honest, this is already quite rare. The plot is straightforward and you know what to expect, but in some ways, this is an advatage. It's like ordering a pizza and having it arrive exactly the way you always liked. So, this was good and I'm satisfied. Thank you for the meal!
- NaumFaruqRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Pretty good xianxia fic, the prose, grammar and plot are ok. the mc is a chill laid back guy that doesn't act like the typical young master while still having a spine, though his spine disappears whenever a girl gets her hand on his dick. Pretty good over all though it tends to drag a bit with short chapters composed of short conversations and one or two acts.
Pretty good but annoying progression.
