Harvesting the Multiverse

Description
The Multiverse is a vast and dangerous place. Nigh-infinite planes drift aimlessly through the Blind Eternities, an endless space of chaotic energies where only the most unfathomable of entities can survive for long. Each moment, countless struggles play out across countless worlds. Empires rise and fall, dynasties are born and fade into dust. Uncountable beings live and die, most never knowing what lies beyond their tiny corner of existence. An ant lives, an ant dies. A man lives, a man dies. A god lives, a god dies.Through it all, the Multiverse spins on.
And sometimes, a being is born with somethingmore. A Spark. A slumbering fragment of the Blind Eternities. Most never even realize. Few have the means to detect such foreign energy. Fewer still even know to look. Countless beings live and die never knowing what miracle lies within them. A Spark appears, a Spark returns to the Blind Eternities.
But not always. Sometimes, rarely, so veryimpossiblyrarely, somethinghappens. Through hardship or horror, through power or powerlessness, a SparkIgnites…and a Planeswalker is born.
Hydrys Black is one such planeswalker. Born to theNoble and Most Ancient House of Black, Hydrys' Spark ignited and he was cast loose into an infinite multiverse filled with endless danger and possibilities with nothing but his wand and the clothes on his back. This is his story.
TLDR: A Harry Potter style wizard ends up becoming a Magic: the Gathering style planeswalker. Plot ensues. Settings: Young Justice, RWBY, World of Warcraft

- clchnnnRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Multiverse fics are immensely fun, letting a single cast of characters explore multiple worlds and all their inherent and unique rulesets. As the majority of the worlds are well known and established works, there exists a framework for worldbuilding and characters that can allow even a mediocre writer to weave an entertaining story. Harvesting the Multiverse is the result of a well run quest by a writer with an evocative imagination who can translate that into written form.
Hydrys is by far the highlight of this story, with his upbringing as a scion from the House of Black serving as the foundation for his character. This characterization is extremely versatile, allowing dramatic and serious consequences, or humourous encounters. For instance, when Hydrys travels to his first world, he is baffled by the screens at the fast food joint that look like magic. Upon discovering that Wizards have gone public a moment later, he quickly concludes it must be the reason for the muggles advancing so rapidly. On the other hand, his murder of the muggles and the squibs at the start and his subsequent lack of acknowledgement of a crime, let alone remorse, demonstrate the teachings forced upon the scions of a family that holds to Tonjours Pur.
This makes for an exceedingly compelling character to follow, which when paired with the flowing prose and the settings of well loved universes; I can earnestly recommend this to all readers, 5 stars. - BlahgubberRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Its well written and a cool blending of multiple fantasy worlds. I would view in from the fanfiction angle but it is very well written for that. It does feel a little slow moving but perhaps that's a product of how it is being written. Also I wish that the character had more organic growth so far in terms of his morality, it feels a bit unnatural on how well he has adjusted so quickly.
- Bulimia4BooksRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0So if I’m being honest I came here with zero knowledge of the story (did not read the synopsis or reviews, I just liked WWDtS and came here from there).
I did not know it was a fan fiction, I did not know it was based off Harry Potter. I have also not read or watched any Harry Potter.
So with zero foreknowledge and a usual avoidance for fanfics in general, especially based off fandoms I haven’t engaged with you would expect me to easily get lost in the weeds and give up a few chapters in.
But every day I get a smile when I see the next chapter posted. This story is one of my absolute favourites.
Pros:
-Really great world building, if you like exploring new worlds with a character (or old worlds if you’re already familiar with the places MC goes) the author does an amazing job.
-Maybe one of the best MC’s out there. No hero complex, logical and calculated but not to the point where it feels like plot armour-insult smart. Every character flaw and trait, power level and intellect all feel very in character for Hydrys Black, scion of House black.
-A good blend of seriousness, comedy, romance and EPIC POWER UPS!
-great supporting cast
-no need to understand or be familiar with the worlds he goes to. The Author does a great job showing you the worlds through a newcomers eyes.
-MC not too OP (yet, kinda hoping he gets there)
-unlike my grammar, it’s gud
-DAILY CHAPTERSSSS!!!
Cons:
-umm are there any? Don’t think so.
Final thoughts:
I couldn’t agree more with the other 5-star reviews, this book is great you should read very awesome! See you in the comments. - DromuthraRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A very fun story about a Planeswalking wizard who slowly (maybe very slowly) learns to be a slightly better person. Involves cute romance, a man out of time utterly baffled by what these zany muggles are doing, and learning to tell the universe to bend over and take it. Good pacing, a fun premise, and a lot of story to enjoy. The author does an excellent job managing character motivations, and how Hydrys' actions ripple through the world. Each of the settings visited is treated kindly, and there's clearly a lot of thought put into the narrative. Personally, I think this is one of the more successful planeswalker stories, and would happily recommend it to anyone willing to read something with a bit of smut (which really is only a bit). Even better is the author's incredible update pace, since there's a new chapter coming out almost every day.
The story so far can broadly be divided into two sections: Hydrys' initial appearance in the DC universe, and his burgeoning explorations of the multiverse. ThatGit does a wonderful job of making Hydrys' path through confusion and into confidence highly enjoyable to read, and manages the growth of the various cast rather well. Hydrys gets some real character development that (1) actually changes who he is at a realistic pace (somewhat slowly), and (2) leaves the door open for further changes. In that regard, ThatGit does an excellent job of presenting Hydrys as oh-so-human, and it enriches the narrative. We haven't seen a lot of Hydrys' jaunts across the multiverse, but ThatGit really captured the field of 'big fish in a large ocean' rather well as the wizard is dipping his toes into the options available to him. Each of the settings visited are lovingly rendered, and as a fan it's a joy to read them as depicted. - Kimbrough7Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0It's a great story that's more than just world hop, get strong, and collect women. It has actual plot and a smart MC who isn't trying to save everyone. He's just trying to explore new worlds, get strong and protect his family. I also like how he's plot adjacent and not just interfering with all the worlds he's in. He's living his life and he sometimes happens to be a part of Canon events but the world doesn't revolve around him.
Overall, great story. I can't wait to read more. I binged the first 90 chapters in 2 days. - LEONOFZIONRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I love when authors don’t overly complicate multiverse novels. This started of pretty good and I am looking forward to seeing what will happen next. I wonder if he could take a trip to another multiverse and take there territory with him, basically the land. Other than that I love the main characters back story and so far the author hasn’t delved too deep in the main characters back story. I don’t think he should because I am looking forward to how he adjusts to his planet walkers powers
- Bastur2Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0This story truly respects the original material from all universes that are used and no character has been portrait in a worse fashion just to make the MC appear to be better than them.
The interactions are refreshing and don't fell forced. It is worth the time it takes to read it and, maybe, even participate in the original. - TheSoul ReaperRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0probly one of the best quests/stories that I have ever read, so good in fact that I bothered leaving a review. The quest is exactly what the story says; its main romance is Zatara. The pace is good, and so far has been a great read with no problems, aside from some simple grammar and wording errors.
