- RandrceRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The story is good in a way that it actually shows more about the progress of Helen as a character as we learn about the world together with her. Helen is just a little child that is learning the rope about this world as a small child and her knowledge about the world is more or less equal to the readers' knowledge.
Style is good enough since I don't see any paragraph without any period and the spacing is just right, givign good space for mobile or pc readers. Still, I don't think anything wrong with the paragraphing on this story. However, the length is too short for my taste.
This story also gives a solid sense of progression for us readers, especially since Helen's ability actually gets stronger even though it's rather slow in comparison to other books.
Grammar is alright, I guess? It's written by a second-english speaker, but to be honest, it's still a good book so I don't have any issue with it so far. However, author should really be careful regarding his writing because I see many errors that is avoidable.
Characters are likeable, with its own unique characteristics. However, some side characters are intentionally not fleshed out too much. They don't look cardboard and feel alive at the grand scheme of things. For example, Rachel is an explosive maniac that is pacifist at the same time. Albert can be pragmatist and so on.
Overall, a nice read, 5/5 star. - M.D.SylRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0A jetfighter/gun engineer, incarnate in a game world as a little noble girl. The other world is a renaissance era with magical gunpowder (normal gunpowder still exists) which gives her options and a good base start.
As far as I've read this is mostly focused on crafting and the system. That being said, there's a hint of trouble in the making, the girl's father might be in trouble.
The crafting is done in great details, with either a lot of research or passion about the subject from the author.
There's a hint of fighterplanes being imported later on.
I'd recommand it for gun and fighterplane enthusiasts. - RoantgenRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0See that smiling woman, it's a lie. Anyway, on to the review. This seems to be a wish-fullfillment story at the start, with how potentially op the main character is, with its ability to use blender-like tool to even create blueprint out of nowhere. The thing is, the story actually seems to be deeper than that.
It's quite reiterated multiple times how the main character won't survive against bunch of people, and the author makes sure that it happens. Anyway, the book is good, and the plot is awesome. Just don't expect this to be too light. The novel can be quite dark, in fact. - CollahanRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Author overpromises about the op-ness of the girl, by giving the fact that she'll launch an Intercontinental Ballistic Missile with 10 MIRV to its enemy in the synopsis. Judging from the story itself, it'll take the very least 100 chapters until we see a missile in the story. Then again, author doesn't seem to care about realism. Anyway, enough of my rant, story is actually good if you aren't expecting the MC to be that OP.
Style Score: 5/5, not a huge problem.
Grammar Score: 4/5. There are some jumbled up tenses and misuse of words here and there. It doesn't flow like someone who is speaking English ever since he is born. It's right, but not quite right, if the expression is used to describe the grammar of this story.
Story Score: 4/5. A little bit overpromising. The character is given the impression that she is OP, but to be honest, she isn't. It's like, the author keeps reiterating that the small child body is more than a bother about what Helen can do or can't do.
Character Score: 5/5. So far, I don't find Helen or Rachel to be cringy, however, it gives the good impression about the story. Rachel is a pacifist with a caring personality to her sister while Helen is a gung-ho concerned younger sister that gets the job done. The quirks are good.
Overall, 5/5 for my personal taste. 4/5 for objectivity. - Combatant86Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0"Gunsmith Materialmancer" is an exciting and captivating story that adds a unique twist to the fantasy genre by introducing a modern weapons and aerospace engineer who is suddenly transported to an alien world filled with magic. The author has done a remarkable job in maintaining the perspective and voice of the protagonist throughout the story, allowing readers to fully immerse themselves in the protagonist's journey.
One aspect of the story that stands out is the author's attention to detail when it comes to the protagonist's inner thoughts. While this adds depth to the character, it can also make the prose a bit confusing at times, as the protagonist's thoughts may be intertwined with the events happening in the story. Despite this, the author's writing is overall well-done, with only a few minor grammatical errors that don't detract from the overall experience.
The pacing of the story is also noteworthy, as the author takes the time to properly develop the protagonist's learning arc at the beginning of the story. However, one critique that can be made of the story is that it lacks action for the first few chapters, making it feel as if the readers are just waiting for something exciting to happen.
The characters in "Gunsmith Materialmancer" are also a highlight of the story. Each character is well-defined, with distinct backgrounds and personalities that clearly set them apart from one another. The protagonist, Helen, is particularly interesting with her complete eagerness to build weapons of mass destruction, which adds a unique and entertaining aspect to the story. The dialogue between characters can be a bit formal and uninspired at times, especially when characters are addressing the viscount or their seniors, which can make it feel as if the author is trying to force the idea of the setting being not modern and more medieval.
In conclusion, "Gunsmith Materialmancer" is an enjoyable read that offers a fresh and unique take on the fantasy genre. The writing i - DrimRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Gunsmith Materialmancer is a lovely look into the world of firearms manufacturing. From someone with no knowledge or experience with the subject, I feel I'm learning quite a bit about it. At times, there can be a few terms and specific models mentioned that a casual reader such as myself probably won't know, but I didn't let it slow me down. However, it may cause some lengthy google sessions for others if you want to know everything.
The story is classic isekai to start, but doesn't devolve into the usual world ending conflict. It's just about a wolfgirl who wants to make guns in another world. After a quick but of family and world introduction, we're already off to the gunmaking without wasting any more time.
This story is definitely more about the method than the madness. It focuses on making the weapons instead of actually using them, though I imagine it's going to build to a point where they're needed eventually. The author does a great job explaining the intricacies of the magical systems and methodologies that many others would leave out or overlook.
The characters are pretty unique with their own personalities. Some do seem a bit convenient at times, such as a sister who can do exactly what the MC needs. It seems that this is more to ease the flow and pace though which I get for this kind of story, so time doesn't need to be spent finding someone who can do it.
Grammar and style could definitely use some polish. There's a tense issue now and again and the occasional incorrect word. Everything gets across though and I imagine the author will edit the minor errors the future.
Overall, if you like more chill crafting stories, then this is for you. It's very relaxing, and very informative. Some great light reading whether you're super into firearms or not. - Holander1234Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0The only reason why I give the overall score a 5-star review is simply because I like the story and the variation of the story of this kind such as Modern Weapons Cheat in Another World, or Manuka, etc. The character development does exist, mainly with how Helen is not able to summon any weapons instantly.
This story doesn't have too much ultranationalism, looking at you, GATE. Author is quite balance, even though the character is definitely really western-leaning on its hardware engineering. The character doesn't try to make a harem either, so it's a good thing.
Style Score 4/5: I don't have any problem with athor's styling at all. It's good enough, in fact, easy to be read with good paragraphing, good spacing, but for RR, I don't think the length of each chapter is simply enough.
Grammar Score 3/5: Light-novel translation translated by a second-english speaker. Lots of tense switches, mainly because the author seems to want to keep writing on present tense, with emphasis on present tense. You'll see context better in past perfect, past tense, present perfect, and so on in this novel. Then again, I won't bother too much about it. It's more technical than an issue that doesn't worth to be mentioned if you are really looking for fantasy vs guns story without glorifying any country's military.
Story Score 4.5/5: Worldbuilding is average, with a lot of things leaving questions more than answer. Then again, the author will explain what is happening whether it makes sense or not. For example, some of the worldbuilding doesn't make sense with its tech-level, but it does make sense considering that I doubt the author even have any engineering experience. Still, a fun read as long as you don't overthink too much about it.
Character Score 4/5: Helen is just Helen, really. She's a former engineer with an ability to give herself a gun as long as she can draw one. I don't know whether to call it smart or lazy, but author is trying to maintain 'plausible deniability' very often - _FlameS_Royal Road★★★★★ 4.5Gunsmith Materialmancer is a really awesome story that brings a fascinating twist to the genre where a modern weapons and aerospace engineer gets transmigrated to an alien world filled with magic. I've really enjoyed reading it and can't wait for more.
Stylistically, the author does a good job of maintaining perspective and the voice never real shifts from the protagonist. I will say that sometimes the mc's inner thoughts can get jumbled up amongst the prose of the story and that it can be a little confusing at times.
Grammatically, the writing is well done and while there are a few hiccups, it's nothing too serious and doesn't distract from the overall story.
In terms of the story, everything is really well paced and the learning arc at the beginning where Helen is figuring her abilities out is well done. My one caveat though is that there's not much action and it feels a bit slow. It's not boring, just kind of like we're just sitting around waiting for action to begin for the first 10 or so chapters.
Finally, the characters are really fun and interesting to follow and each clearly comes with their background and personalities that clearly define and separate them all. I particularly enjoyed Helen and her complete eagerness to build weapons of mass destruction. It's oddly cute in a way. I will say that the dialogue can sometimes feel a little formal and bland at times, like the author's forcing the idea of the setting being not modern and more medieval (especially when characters are addressing the viscount or their seniors).
Overall, Gunsmith Materialmancer is a really fun read and I highly recommend checking it out! - James GarfieldRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5There are a lot of parallels between me and the protagonist. Basically, swap me in, have me get run over by a seaman instead of a private, plop me into a fantasy world with special abilities, and wait for me to try to build submarines and aircraft carriers. Helen has it a bit easier so far because the technology she's trying to replicate, firearms, is smaller and simpler. Still, I'm curious to see if she'll ever work her way up to ultra-modern weapons of war like fighter jets. Her similarities to me surely colored my view as I read the available chapters of this fiction. Clearly, this story isn't for everyone. If you hate the very idea of guns, try something else. Otherwise, read on.
The first thing to draw me in was actually the cover, which includes an impressive juxtaposition of an anime-style girl, fantasy-style wolf ears, and modern military-style tactical gear. While some people might find this representation to be a blasphemous abomination, to me it heralds near-infinite possibilities for innovation and creativity within a fantasy story.
The "system" so far is interesting to me. The part that stands out to me is how modern the supporting characters' understanding of interfaces is due to this system. Without going into too much detail, the fantasy characters could probably fare decently if they were brought to our world, unlike most fictions I read in this genre. I'll finish the review with additional thoughts in each category:
Style: The prose does a good job of communicating to me what the character's motivations are and what they're currently thinking. The use of dialogue is appropriate. Some readers might be turned off by the technology namedropping, but I'm quite knowledgeable so it didn't bother me at all. See other reviews (current and future) to see how other reviewers feel about that.
Grammar: The area I'd identify for improvement. Possibly due to translation of some terms, the occasional errors or odd wording are jarring. I see some - t2oRoyal Road★★★★ 3.5Author unintentionally pads out their story like a Chinese Novel that gets payed by word count.
It's an okay read if you want to spend time doing unproductive sht....
But if you want to enjoy it a lil bit you have to read just one line of every 3 paragraphs, i i swear you will be able to follow the story.
But even if you are able to follow it.....
Nothing feels impactful, even the most serious and grave news read like weather reports, they pop out of nowhere & fail to have any impact, both on the reader & the story.
You learn, Out Of Nowhere... that mc's sister doesn't have a thumb. How does one miss that???
M.c. looses her thumb as well, ans what happens next... nothing literally nothing. It's treated like a passerby passing a fart, Well a fart would atleast have some impact on the people around. But this incident doesn't even have that going for it.
