- Bill ShyrokuRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've enjoyed getting to know the lore of how the world works as well as how the system functions. The system itself seems well crafted with some of it's features making me curious to see how it works.
I'm also enjoying the multiple POV style of writing as it gives me interesting perspective of the main characters as well as reassuring that the world doesn't revolve around Daggat but rather that his story is part of many others.
The goblin culture is rather fascinating and it was enjoyable getting to see things from goblins perception. I also like that despite our group of goblins being outcast to their own tribes they still are goblins at heart. Yet they're slowly building their own sense of camaraderie with other fellow outcast.
I can't wait to continue reading to see what the future holds for them - Bromboor13Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0I started reading this story simply because I find the idea of goblins as the MCs entertaining, but I've someone become invested in their stories. These are not just little monsters, not are they one dimensional heroes. There is actual character growth and story plots that are worth noting and following. It also asks the age old question, is a monster what is outside or in?
I would strongly recommend this story. - D.N. NewynRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've read 10 chapters of this book; just coming back to the 8th chapter to check out the name of the POV character and it registered as having read 8.
This book hits all the right notes. I read LitRPG semi-frequently and I think this book is an example of a cool concept with great execution.
Style: Very clean style that's easy to follow. I love the fact that character stats are always included within the spoiler in every chapter, so readers know what to expect. The LitRPG elements elevate the story rather than dragging it down.
Story: It's a very charming, quirky story, mainly from the POV of Daggat who is just trying to survive all the while being dog-piled on and one-upped by a slightly less clever but more manipulative Zuss. There are two POV chapters that are from the POVs of different characters, but they feel organic and not out of place.
Character: The characters are fun. I love seeing Daggat being so miserable despite his intelligent; it makes for really funny situations. The dialogues are clever and even though goblins just do what goblins do, they still have enough of a flair to themselves to make them stand out.
Grammar: Clean. I think I found one mistake while I read. The author did well to clean up and edit his past mistakes.
All in all, great book for fans of goblins. I'd wholeheartedly recommend this to all LitRPG fans! - DGCampbellRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I've really been enjoying this, and I'm excited to see where it goes. The main character has a lot of personality, and while I don't typically go for goblin mentality, one of my good friends does, so I read this as though he is the main character, and it's hilarious. I genuinely appreciate that the character uses their brain to solve problems (or get into them) in a natural way, as opposed to just raw stat ability like a lot of the other stories I've read. It makes it feel like a character with special abilities instead of a walking stat sheet.Style: No problems here at all, reads like you'd expect a story from a goblin's eye view would.Grammar: This is damned near a 5. There are just a few points where the grammar falls off a tad, but it's something that can be patched up with a quick editing pass before it goes to press, if that's the end goal. Really not a big deal at all, and it's obvious that the writer knows what they are doing.Story: 10/10. I love it. Just goblin tomfoolery and fun.Character: As I said earlier, this is a real character that I care about, as opposed to a stat sheet with a speech bubble. I thoroughly enjoy reading the story because of him.
- FalstaffRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0This is very charming and I recommend it highly.
I'm not even a fan of the LitRPG genre, but this is so disgusting in an oddly adorable way, I just love it.
I'm very impressed at the use of endearingly negative character traits. Daggat is a cannibalistic monster, but he's so darn cute!
There are multiple POVs but the starting chapters are all Daggat, cleverly so, yet even more clever (IMO) is the brilliant switch to Elyndris. If you're gonna switch POVs, might as well switch to a badass fckn dragon! Love her. And the method in which her character turns was very satisfying.
The worldbuilding is done naturally through character perspective, and the characters are tasty tasty so the worldbuilding feels organic and smooth. There seems to be less obvious story, but that's to be expected in this genre, especially so early in the narrative. I hardly noticed the lack of story because the setting is so cozy and the characters are such a delight to spend time with.
The grammar is very polished though I detected a few stray commas. Nothing egregious.
Overall this was a 10/10 review swap experience for me. I will suggest upgrading the cover. I like this story a lot and I think it deserves a proper cover. - GarbonzoRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0The monster POV is done super well and each of the characters feels incredibly distinct and have great personalities. The author manages to mesh the cutthroat chaotic nature of goblins with the familial bond between the siblings in a way that embraces goblin revelry and bullshit but also maintains stakes.
This is one of the most interesting and well done systems I have seen. The system’s existence is heavily integrated into the world building and society. Getting updated and detailed character sheets at the end of every chapter is an incredible level of detail. - GershRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Sometimes it is hard to be a fan of books with multiple main characters and ones that are focused on reincarnation in a litrpg environment. It is difficult because those stories are obsessed with a person making all of the right decisions on their path to power. It is obsessed with the power of friendship and makes it difficult to make a differences between realism and narrative writing. So far, this book has not made any of these mistakes. The characters are fleshed out and have their own motivations, feelings, and reasons to live life. It is heartwarming to constantly see our growing band of misfits move beyond the squalor that they were born into and work together to become something more. They are not perfect, overly emotional, or emotionless. They give off a sense of realism that can be seen during every one of their narrations. Every character has their own story to tell and plot points that revolve around them. No one is forgotten or butchered for narrative reasons. It is a story about characters interacting with each other, not a story trying to be told around a plot where A, B, and C might happen. It is a refreshing sense of fantasy realism despite how gruesome it gets at times.
- James GhoulRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0What an adventure! The characters really shine beneath the author’s pen. Each backstory is phenomenally told to the point that it just sucks you in. Battle scenes are a blast, and the goblins’ progressions are delightful to follow. It’s difficult to pick a favorite character because they are each distinct, and you empathize equally among them. There’s a ton of world building which the author is wise enough to spend time on. This leaves the reader with a rich story. If you adore goblins—as I do—this will be an excellent read, for there are still plenty of goblin shenanigans.
- LordAetiusRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I have a soft spot for stories with non-human characters. They are often more innovative, and Goblin Teeth is no exception.
Style: Fairly classic fantasy, blended with a LitRPG system. There is some darkness, as you might expect in a goblin society, but lots of humor, and it's an enjoyable, mainstream read.
Story: Daggat begins life as a gremlin, a goblin child. Normal, except with an intelligence bonus. This bonus drives his character and the storyline. Given that we begin his story literally from its very beginning, the story moves speedily, developing the goblin world in which he lives, and some of the enticing world beyond it. Although Daggat starts from the bottom, there is lots of progress as he makes his way through goblin society.
Grammar: A few things which the author corrects, but nothing to interfere with my reading. After the first chapter, the prose settles into a smooth, well crafted story.
Character: The character work is the real strength so far. Not only Daggat himself, but his siblings Klaw, Glut, Zuss, and others, are developed effortlessly. It's very easy for the reader to pick up on their individual personalities. The goblins are likeable and have the cunning, crude attributes one would expect. There are also lots of other characters introduced, of varying races. Without spoilers, this makes it a varied and really interesting cast in a classic fantasy world setting.
Overall, easily one of the better stories I've read on RR, with a plot that is going places, so I expect this story is well worth investing your time. - LorixDRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0I don't know if it is because of the illustration provided at the end of volume one but this found family of monsters going on their misadventures reminds me of watching "Seven Little Monsters" as a child.
This story is a wondeful mix of two facets. One, a fast-paced comedy litrpg where adventures happen, people die, beasts are slain and levels go up. Second, a character driven story about a group of rejected monsters and mortals trying to carve out a place for themselves in a harsh world.
The contrast between heartfelt moments followed by a mostly innoccent bystander being suddenly stabbed in the gut and uncerimoniously devoured by the gang is always hilarious.
The only criticism I have is that due to its fast pace sometimes you get the feeling some character interactions arent given enough time to flourish, particularly with its side characters. Although in a funny way this is somewhat fitting, the crew look out only for each other, anyone in their way better stay on their toes or risk them being eaten.
