- SierraDTRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5I have binged through the whole thing in 2 months. 4 years of work...
I have stated before that this had flaws, but that it delivered simply a good story. One that is even better than the original one. Well, things have changed quite a bit since around chapter 50, when I first commented on this work.
The whole thing developed into something so much more complex and impressive. From the grammar, which got a substantial upgrade with time, to story which builds the world so immersively.
The characters, pov arcs, side-stories, pacing in war and daily-life chapters, the loose ends of some plot-points, it all creates such a an immersive world, one I can care about more than in works of others.
This is not a simly good story, and definately not a "fan-fiction". This is something I would buy all the books of.
I thank you for the effort and I am looking forward to reading Ad Astra. - m0nkeyzRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5First off, a very enjoyable fic, I had a lot of fun binge-reading it the past few weeks. This second half is much better than the first half, and improved a lot in every area, especially grammar.
Style: I enjoy reading fics that are similar to Gate or Summoning Japan, so this premise was right up my alley. While the Americans and their allies are obviously far better technologically, they still have to learn and adapt to Uros's magic, so it was nice and satisfying to see them overcome and adapt. Additionally, it's always nice to read about military technology, and there is a lot in this fic, so I enjoyed it too.
Grammar: The grammar was much improved over the first half, and I barely noticed any major grammar mistakes. There was the occasional word where I wasn't sure it's the correct one, but unlike the first halt bad grammar was not endemic to the fic.
Story: I actually haven't watched GATE save for a few clips on YouTube, so I don't fully know how much the author has changed from the original. Still, I am very impressed and pleased with this fic, as although the grammar difficulties of the first half made my expectations lowered, the second half far surpassed them. The story was engaging, the characters and world behaved rather realistically, and nothing too weird, radical and unrealistic happens. There are a couple points I enjoyed less that I will explain in the next paragraph, but they are minor enough where they only detract half a star.
Gripe One:
Everyone getting laid; This is really the only gripe I have with the story, where literally everyone of Sharpe's Vanguard team either bangs and gets banged. Some of the characters also get into relationships rather quick or unexpectedly (Mainly Alica and Sofia imo), but this is something the author likely chose to skip over for sake of time and for not being the point of the fic, so this is reasonable.
Gripe Two:
Side character screen time; There are obviously a lot of side characters in this fic. The main problem
