- Aceharmony342Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0From the very start I got enamored by everything this story has to offer, the characters are wonderfully detailed and have tons of personality, the environments surrounding said characters are well described but not overbearing, progression feels smooth with tons of interesting bits of lore popping up here and there adding to a larger sense of mystery.
One thing i appreciated was the jokes and links imputed at the start or ends of chapters that made me laugh or feel more immersed in the story slowly being built here.
TLDR: it's a great well written story, I personally found no flaws and highly suggest giving it a read, especially those people who for some reason read comments to decide if a story of worth diving into or not.
I also like how the writer creates and describes the alien creatures that inhabit the equally alien world, they just make sense, a prime example being the main species we are introduced to, described to be a mix between a shark/reptile (so no badionkers on the females) and are cold blooded, evolving to hunt near or in warm oceans and supposed tropical areas while growing to a height and strength to match some of the monstrous aquatic inhabitants of the ocean, it just makes sense to me and I appreciate such a well though out approach to an alien species that actually feels like they evolved to thrive In a specific environment. (Wow I went on for a while)
Best of all it also has giant lady shark/reptile cuddling so... You know... - AndrobirdRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0If you want a story that fully pulls you into its setting, Frontier Fantasy stands out in the genre. It blends gritty sci-fi elements with high fantasy in a fresh, cohesive, and engaging way.
This is some of the best world-building I have seen in any media, not just web fiction. The DNA of universes like Warhammer 40k is present in the background; it has that grim, weighty feel, but it never overshadows the original work. The author has created something unique. The artifact layer of the setting adds a sense of history and scale, making the world feel ancient and mysterious.
A major highlight is the local alien populace. The author introduces a shark-like race with a female-led society, and it is an inspired take on first contact. These characters are not just humans in a different color with modern customs; their culture is rich, unique, and truly alien. Watching the protagonist navigate this culture is fascinating.
The characters in this story feel like real people, not caricatures. But new readers should be warned - the main character can be a bit annoying at first. Stick with it. He grows out of that, and his character development, along with the entire main cast, is fun to watch.
The interpersonal drama and the romance subplot are excellent as well. Although the pacing of the romance can be slow, the payoff is worth the wait. It feels earned, not forced.
For genre fans, the colony-building elements are impressive. The progression is steady; a lot gets done, but the story leaves plenty of room for future growth. A gripping mystery about a colony that was supposed to arrive later underpins the survival aspect. I won’t spoil the reveal, but the element of discovery keeps the tension high and makes every exploration mission feel significant.
My only minor critique is that the pacing can occasionally slow down during slice-of-life or introspective moments. However, when the story picks up, it really delivers. The action is intense, and the stakes feel real.
If you e - AnemomancerRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Mix factorio, rimworld, add some 10 foot tall sharks for the monster lovers, and a planet spanning mystery to unravel... You get this, worth mentioning better than average writing and characterization as well.
Plot moves along nicely, even with small interludes to other characters. IMO doesn't even take you out of the story since it's properly setting up future events. - Rampaging_SexbotRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Your story is the reason I made an account, I'm greatly enjoying it and can't wait for every new chapter!!
Im super curious as to what you have planned for the larger settlement, as well as the weird flesh things.
I initially found the story because someone posted a picture of a malkrin in tactical equipment in a discord server I'm in and mentioned it was from a story. - RoBOticRebelRoyal Road★★★★★ 5.0Interesting world and characters. Characters seem intelligent. Plot seems coherent . Love the alien perspectives. The plot may be predictable at times but in a way that I like it, i can't explain it.
IDK what else to write to pad the word counter except Lorem Ipsum copypasta or something else. - Simpleman123302Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0What’s this? a romance story about a man lost within another planet! Only time will tell if he gets the girl or perhaps the girl gets him or perhaps they will both be lost to the ravages of this brutal world. Anyways love the story Roo I will eventually catch up I promise and as always the shark propaganda will continue until morale improves.
- Whitestar60Royal Road★★★★★ 5.0Story is a nice slice of life mixed with a bit of factorio and terraria blood moons. Human MC is stranded on an alien planet full of secrets with only his wits, some tech, and native help matched against an ecosystem literally out to kill them.
(Edit)
Having been following the story on HFY now up to the current (as of this moment Chapter 101) things have become pretty interesting. The stakes are even higher as the bugs each blood moon are proving to be the least of their worries as a more insidious danger lurks in the shadows scheming the downfall of everyone. Even worse as as others dig towards a treasure of old that may really have been something others left sealed for a good reason. All this with half the story left to be told means things are shaping up to be much rougher for our favorite characters and there's no promise all of them will survive much less do so unscathed in body or mind
I look forward to seeing how the author plans to wrap this all up much less set the stage for future tales they intend to tell set within this universe. - backgroundnoiseRoyal Road★★★★★ 4.5While it takes some chapters to truly get started, stick with it, well worth the read and a follow. Main character will start out unlikable but everything initially just going to hell will do that.
Not one for long reviews but word minimums are word mins so putting filler here. - Twice as bigRoyal Road★★★★ 4.0Loving the characters and their relationships a lot. I didn't originally come into this wanting a shark romance but I am liking it.
Action is well enough written at least for my standards. and the interactions between characters seem very realistic given the context.
I'm also really loving the horror aspect of it, both with the body horror of the flesh and the more suspenseful/eeriness of specifically the explorations of the water treatment plant and mag-train station.
My only real gripe with a story is as a result of how the Malkirn treat Harrison and Tracy along with the religious connotations attached. For me it kind of feel like a bit of a white savior thing. Although with what I know now of the lore it does make a bit more sense. It's probably a result of me looking a bit too far into it.
