Description

Decades ago, Elcy was a battleship. Her recklessness on the front led her to forced retirement in a human body. Having officially joined the officer ranks thanks to the success of her last mission, Elcy is approached by the arbiters to assist in making contact with the illusive “fractal” race. Many things are at stake. Will such an attempt help humanity gain the upper hand against its current enemies, or will it mark the start of a third-contact war? Elcy’s work is cut out for her, yet the only thing more difficult than finding fractals’ home world is trusting the intentions of her new superiors.

The story is a continuation ofQuod Olim Erat,The Scuu Paradox, andThe Cassandrian Theory.

Thank you for the great read. After 4 books, a satisfactory ending. Twisting plots, layers of lies and subterfuge, sometimes too much, sometimes more than enough. And among all the intrigue we have got our MC Elcy who for most of the plot is driven forward and manipulated by surrounding, but in critical moments makes her own decisions that are extremely impactful on everybody.
I am looking forward for next storyline you Ms Eclaire will come up with, because this series of books was fun and thoughts provoking.

(The target area for fencing with the foil is the whole trunk, including the v-shape of the groin at the front and extending to the end of the jacket at the back.)

So… I loved the story, but was so disappointed at many points.  I was referred to this story by another author, with the assurance that this is a stand-alone book. Absolutely self-contained, yes, all references were supplied, but my gosh, I sure wish I’d been told to go read the other books on KU, first. I think I will, too. Fantastic read, and I really like the “pure sci-fi” presentation of the Light Seeker adventure. Thanks for the good read!

    Spoilers.
It took me a while to read this last book, I knew I'd miss Elcy and it made me melancholy whenever I'd start it up again. I'm not entirely sure why this story touched something inside me the way it did. It's well written and interesting and for some reason I've had a bunch of dreams about it and many times where I was thinking through the various mysteries of it. I like that the realization that the ships are the third contact race is started in the first book and slowly grows until you're not even surprised at the big reveal. I'm glad Elcy gets unending adventure and discovery, she deserves it. Great story.

This has been one amazing sci-fi story to read.  It's fully captivated me from the start and I'll consider this one of my top series I've ever enjoyed.  I highly recommend checking out the previous three books.

TLDR: I've enjoyed this series more than quite a few Hugo and Nebula awards novels.
Writing is definitely pro-level, with the odd typo and misspelling here and there, nothing some thorough rounds of proof-reading won't fix.
I've read some not totally positive reviews complaining about pacing, confusing situations and excessive use of flashbacks. That's fair, it's a matter of taste, but didn't bother me: I find all of those features, not bugs. To me they are completely justified by the kind of story being told, where there's a ton of memory manipulation, intelligence agencies, war secrets, alien races too alien for communication with humankind... If you're looking for a die-hard action-oriented space opera, maybe this is not the book for you, and that's completely fine.
There's plenty of action, don't get me wrong, but also lots of intrigue and mystery solving. I'm not straight comparing them, but as an orientation for prospective readers, in tone and pace (note the qualifiers) it's somehow similar to series like Dune or Foundation, or some Clarke's stuff. If you enjoyed those, then you might like to give this series a whirl. It hit all the right spots for myself.
This story is about Elcy, a conscience core (sort of AI on steroids) who serves humanity, first as a battleship, then as a space cadet in a human-like body, with a brief stint retired from the Fleet as a caretaker for the son of her last captain. Elcy is a memorable protagonist, quirky, alien and, oh, so easy to root for, mercilessly shackled and used as she is by the very same humanity who she longs to protect and serve. Follow her as she tries to work around her restraints and use her best judgement to carry out her mission.
Fractal Contact closes out the series in a very satisfying, elcy-esque way and leaves me with a pleasant afterglow. The first books are stubbed here and now published in Kindle. I've picked them up, this is a series I will be re-reading in the future.

This entire series is incredibly well written, with amazing characters and intriguing mysteries. I would really emphasise the character building, they are incredibly well written with their unique style and reactions. This puts a larger emphasis on the mystery than combat, but the few combat scenes there are are very enjoyable to read.
